The good-old games of GOG are often hard to find and/or difficult to get working on modern machines. Many of them would warrant news of their release included in the 'Deals' forum; some would not. Therefore this thread proposes to be the compact depository of information regarding of classic games from GOG.com, as well as discussion concerning their deal-worthiness.

Special sales and promotions will continue to have their own threads.

Loved the original Soul Reaver. I vaguely recall the sequel on PS2 and I remember being disappointed. Anyone else have thoughts on Soul Reaver 2? If I recall correctly, I loved the sense of progression on the original, killing each of the brothers and then the ending was a cliff hanger. I just remember 2 not being quite the same ...
I voted for Gothic myself as I already played Arx Fatalis on the original XBOX. I had bought it brand new since I had just played Morrowind and wanted something similar. It's definitely more focused and linear than Morrowind was (I had to buy the strategy guide just to figure out what I was supposed to be doing), but it's a great RPG. I was so intrigued with the world the developers had created and would have gladly bought a sequel.
Eh, I played it ages ago. From what I remember it had a good lock on system for a third person perspective game and I found the story engaging. I'm actually waiting for the first game in the series to be released since I never got a chance to play it. It's actually a top down perspective action rpg, unlike the later entries.

First Soul Reaver and now Soul Reaver 2? I am liking this! Now hopefully they release Blood Omen 2 (meh) and Legacy of Kain Defiance (yah!) and I will be happy! I am also hoping they release the original Blood Omen as well but I have been seeing it as a free download on places like Abandonia so I am wondering if the rights to the game are in limbo.

Can someone tell me if Deus Ex 2's godawful load time is fixed? I remember how bad it was on the original Xbox to the point of just being unplayable and I heard the PC version suffered similarly as they basically capped it to work on the Xbox.
If it's fixed and I don't have to deal with it I'll definitely buy it.

wow, geneforge! I have had a couple, even 1 or 2 on physical media but have always misplace it. GOG for the win!

This is definitely worth your money, get them!

DAAAANG I'm buying another copy of Deus Ex 2...

And they're getting Torchlight and Chronicles of Riddick: Assault on Dark Athena! Woo hoo! Buying all of those...actually both of those are up to be voted on today, so they'll be on sale as a preorder tomorrow (unless they're releasing them tomorrow too).

How does Chronicles of Riddick hold up? it's only $6

Awesome game and it still looks great.

Very interested in Geneforge, but my backlog says I can wait for a sale. I'm playing Avernum which is made by the same guy and it's great, so I'm looking forward to trying Geneforge.

Honestly, I wouldn't. Sales are fairly rare and that game...it's a gem. Truly worth the price.

At GOG? The same place that has an annual half-off sale on virtually their entire catalog, weekend deals every weekend, 60% discounts one or two Wednesdays a month?

Yup. And they seem to be getting more aggressive with sales all the time. They've also given out 5 games, all fairly to very good, since I joined up.
FYI: The Steam Summer Sale is near so it might be prudent to wait and see if the Geneforge Saga hits 75% off. That seems very likely and would make it $5 for all 5 games.
You wouldn't own that though. I'd much rather pay $15...but what the heck IS it? I'd never heard of it before. (My interest in Steam is plummeting even more now that GOG's hitting a bunch of newer or even same day release games.)
Awesome game and it still looks great.
Yeah, and it's only a couple years old. It's really two games, a remake of the original 2004 game (which itself is probably still quite nice) and an entire second game, Assault on Dark Athena, which I actually thought was considerably better than Butcher Bay, though I'm sure some prefer that.

It's a safe bet at $60 IMO, but $6 it's a no brainer. I bought a second copy for PC even though I played through it on Playstation.

It's not a straight shooter either...more interesting than that IMO.

It's DARK though...I finished Dark Athena and I promptly switched to like Kirby or something just to lighten the mood LOL

Weirdly it/they are way better than the actual Riddick movies, and are set before Pitch Black (that was the first one's name?)

The captain of Dark Athena is the awesome woman who played the admiral/commander of Pegasus on Galactica...and she's ummm just as "warm" here

Torchlight $14.99 [$8.99 for the first week]

Created by some of the creative minds behind Diablo II and Hellgate: London, Torchlight continues the former's hack 'n' slash formula and obsession with phat lewt, though it adds several improvements like a pet system and shared stash. With randomized levels, the TorchED editor, and a mod-friendly attitude, you'll always have more Torchlight fun to play.

GOG is really getting better with all that they offer, not to say anything against the older games because I love them as well but some of the new one's aren't that old and seeing "Alan Wake" there really warms my heart.
I only wish "Condemned" were on GOG though I suspect it is not. Am I correct?

Uhh...this torchlight deal isnt a deal at all

If you preorder Torchlight 2 ($20) now on steam, you get Torchlight 1 free ASAP. THATS a deal

But you wouldn't own that though. Haha, remember what thread you're in.
I believe you mean $8.99 :)
Oops. Thanks for pointing that out. Hopefully people saw the thread title before they got too excited.

So SEGA games on GOG, for the moment.

If you want a hard disc copy of Torchlight, Amazon seems to have it at the going rate of about $7.50 if you have prime. All disc copies of Torchlight are DRM free as well.

Torchlight is a pretty good game, although with all the changes coming to T2, it might just be a better idea grabbing Torchlight 2 on Steam. Especially if you can nab a 4-pack.
Legend of Grimrock is 50% off at GOG for a "Special Summer Gem" sale.

Sale price brings it down to $7.49.
Promo lasts until Wednesday, July 11 at 5:59 AM EDT.

Thoughts on Grimrock? I heard it was pretty punishing. My last (only?) experience with such a game was Eye of the Beholder on SNES and it wasn't very favorable.

I wouldn't say its punishing. It just will kick you while your down if you happen to mess up and fall down. But I never felt like it was unfair.

I haven't played it yet, but the user reviews on GOG are glowing (5 out of 5 stars on average).

Metacritic average is 82, which is an A+ score for a niche dungeon-crawler (in my opinion).

Thanks for the tip. I kind of want to buy this directly from the dev(you get the game from them as well as steam key for $15) but I've been trying to get away from Steam and I wouldnt want the Dev's site to shut down and not have access to it.

I split my purchases between GOG and Steam these days. I respect both of them, and GOG's no-DRM policy is very refreshing.

GOG's only gotten better over the past year with a number of site updates. I'd say it's worth giving them a try.

With about 200 games in my Steam library, I hopped on the GOG bandwagon... Now I own 75% of the GOG games and 700+ Steam games, I'd say GOG is just about as addicting as Steam. However, any older games on Steam that are also on GOG, I always go with GOG even if the price is a little higher. I love my GOG, what they stand for, what they're doing, and their respect for fellow gamers. =]

Lol... Yeah, I'd say I do. I haven't done the math, but I own a hell of a lot of games on there.

Just counted, I own 62% of the entire catalog. ;) A little off, but holy crap... Time to buy some moar! The rest is mostly stuff I own otherwise or am not interested in.

Just curious, how many of the games you own on Steam/GOG have you played?

Do you really want (need) to know? ;)

Bought Grimrock.
Gave Grimrock a test run and let the game make a party, just to make sure it ran; and it did. :D
Wow...this game's old-school, fun and cool. :D
Gonna have to give this some time and create a cool party, once I'm done w/ the Amalur DLC's.
