People buy the PS2 because Sony did a great job marketing it. PS2 has some great games, but they are almost all single player--which I see as its biggest fault. Xbox naysayers slam Halo for its universal appeal. Theres nothing wrong with a game that everyone is familiar with in my book. Halo is just that good, and PS2 fans are furious that they don't have a game that has a comparable impact. On the other hand, Xbox fails miserably in the platforming genre, PS2 clearly wins that one. In all honesty, I'd rather have one superb game than 10 pretty good games.

Since this is CAG, Xbox is also a better value overall in the end. No need to buy a memory card, multitap, hard drive, network adaptor, and there are many free online gaming alternatives to Live. Xbox edges PS2 in pretty much every third party game (give or take a few), except for EA games. Theres no arguing that.

That said, I'm actually very impressed with PS2's 2004 lineup. It has a lot of games with real potential coming out, so maybe my opinion will change at the end of this year.
 
So, I'm guessing you admit the system is better, cuz ALL of your posts have been about how Halo is all we got. I mean really, look back and see how many times that has been said in this thread. Pretty pitiful.
 
I agree with Sandwiches (strangely that makes me hungry) but considering that this is the first game system Microsoft has put out, its doing a hell of a good job. I noticed that people say Xbox has only one good game, that PS2 is so much better blah blah.. but no one said that the XBox is dead... the Dreamcast entered a similar market and was killed.

You can say that its Microsoft's deep pockets keeping it alive, but Microsoft has had projects that were cancelled and forgotten about because of consumer indifference (Bob, iLoo come to mind). The reason its still out there, that there is an XBox 2 in the works is that it made money. Xbox isn't going to be a billion dollar seller because it doesn't have the fanbase Nintendo or Sony has after combined 30+ years of experience. The truth is that each system has its good points and bad, thats why there's so many people I've seen on TGN with multiple systems. Come to think of it, how many people on average go to a store to pick up an XBox game but also end up picking up a PS2 game or GBA as well. All the companies benefit from each other... like sleeping with the enemy so to speak.

You think Microsoft or Sony or Nintendo cares about whether you think Xbox or PS2 or Cube is the best? I bet they're laughing all the way to the bank.

All the consoles are pretty much the same, have pretty much the same games save for a couple of exclusives... I admit I'm a fanboy too.. but the truth is fanboys have to grow up, console wars are obsolete.. I wouldn't be surprised if Nintendo, Sony and Microsoft team up some day.

You probably misunderstood me. I know it's for Xbox, but it's not really Xbox exclusive. The PC version of the game released about 4 months or so after the Xbox one. Not quite the drastic time split that Halo had.

Sorry, but its not. A system blockbuster is an exclusive. The PC got a better port of it. Doesn't count.
 
Project Gotham Racing and DOA3 have sold over 1 million copies, and 3 other blockbusters are PGR2, Top Spin, and Crimson Skies.
 
OK, you got me beat, I'll admit PS2 has more good games than Xbox. But, Xbox still beats PS2 2 to 1. The system itself is better, like faster, better graphics, etc. and the online experience is also better. So, PS2 has us beat at the games, but Xbox claims power of the system and better online play.
 
power doesnt mean jack if the only stuff to paly on it is crap. not saying all x-box is crap, toejam and earl 3 and panzer dragoon are excellent, but you said it yourself, ps2 has the better games and in the end, thats what matters.
 
There is definitely not only crap on the Xbox, just not as good as stuff as PS2. I'm not saying it has NO good stuff, just not AS good stuff as PS2. You know it's true that Xbox has PS2 beaten 2 to 3, because ALL yall say is about our game selection.
 
You guys are getting way off topic but I must comment on one thing.

XBoxMaster, I'd love to hear where you are getting "Xbox still beats PS2 2 to 1" and "You know it's true that Xbox has PS2 beaten 2 to 3." What exactly are you refering to? At first I thought you were comparing game libraries but the PS2 library dwarfs the Xbox library by quite a large margin. So please, clarify this obscure statistic for us.

Are you telling me that you've never heard of Grand Theft Auto 3? You know, that game that was a megahit on the Playstation 2 for well over a year before it hit the Xbox? Or how about the Final Fantasy series? Ratchet and Clank? Jak and Daxter?

You ARE aware that you've just proclaimed the PS2 better than the Xbox, right? That first sentence is saying that the "good stuff" on the PS2 is, in fact, better than the "good stuff" on the XBox. Also, a 2:3 ratio would, in fact, imply that the PS2 is winning. It doesn't really matter, though, since that number most definitely contradicts your earlier 2:1 statement that is most likely a number you've pulled out of your ass.

i would love to see your stats, becaause all evidence ive ever seen says the ps2 easily lead, with either gcn or xbox in far second. where do you get this data that says that a system thats failing everywhere except the us is the best. or you might just be bill gates in disguise.

i have a friend whos the same way too, everything except the xbox sux. and to b honest i sorta used to be like him too till a year back when i snapped, admited the xbox suked, had no good games and bought a ps2 and gamecube from the sale of all the xbox things.

now im not saying xbox is stupid and yes it does have some good games but just not enough to justify the price tag. i think xbox fanboys are probally the way they are because of that too, they desperately want to think their purchase was worth it.

or that they must have the best hardware on the market, which means having anything with less than the best graphics is a waste of money (also another arguement my friend makes).
 
I don't think PS2 sucks, nearly it just isn't as good as Xbox. I own a PS2 as well, I bought it the first weekend it came out and this is my second one when my first one broke. I have a network adapter for it and plan to invest $100 on the HDD w/t FF XI. As you can see, I definitely do not hate PS2, just merely don't think it is as good as Xbox. I do not feel like being gang banged by a bunch of PS2 fanboys anymore, so I'm gonna end my participation in this discussion now.
