I remember when the Dreamcast was put to rest by Sega, they ran this special final promotion of releasing one or three Dreamcasts into the market. They were hidden and sold as regular stock. I don't remember the specifics but I think they were to be sold at Toys R Us. I am pretty hazy on the details, but I was wondering whatever happened to these rare DCs. Any pics? Anyone know who the winners were? I'd love to know.

No, it was the Dreamcast. I believe it was the final shipment. I have no idea what happened to the winners, and I've never seen anything on it.

Special Last Dreamcast?
When the last batch of Dreamcasts are shipped, the very last one will have a huge surprise...
by IGN Staff

October 17, 2001 - During our Q & A session with Charles Bellfield of Sega of America, IGNDC learned of something special planned for the last Sega Dreamcast unit:

CB: And here's something special; the last one that ship, there will be a very special last Dreamcast and I would love to know who's getting that one. That will ship before Christmas and there's going to be a momentous occasion when the last batch of Dreamcasts ship. IGNDC: Well give us a hint, Charlie... is it going to be a golden Dreamcast? Will it have like $1000 bucks hidden inside it or something?

CB: I'll just say that last Dreamcast from Sega is worth way more than gold. (smiles)

As he stated above, the last shipment of Dreamcast will be shipping in December. Although he's vague about what it could be, we'll do our best to "convince him" to release more details in the future.

Did anyone ever find out exactly what it was? I thought they had hinted that it would be signed by the development team.

I just did a google Search and I dont think anyone ever found out.. I wonder if its sitting on a shelf at a tru or walmart in the back stock room
The last dreamcast wasn't actually put into circulation like everyone originally thought. It was given away by gamepro in a contest. It was signed and had all the first party games.
.
That's where I heard the signature thing. I used to have a sub to Gamepro and got it for another 6+ months after that and don't remember them mentioning a winner.

Sad that the last of such a great video game system was given away by such a crappy magazine... I had a free sub to that mag... hated it

The last dreamcast system aint no difference from the one i got. I mean wtf, it plays the same games, looks the same, smells the same, is the same, people making way more of a big deal about nothing.

Duck season, Fire! *BOOM*

Whenever I get over this bout of laziness, I am going to contact Sega and find out definitively about these "last Dreamcast" promotions. I'll update as all but one cares.

Just go play your games, man.

I've been wondering for years what happened to the last Dreamcast... If anyone finds out, be sure to let everyone know.

I thought it might have been in the batch of US Dreamcasts that went back to Japan to be sold there.

It's very possible that the last DC still has not been found. Gamepro did run a contest but I've never heard of who won it. You figure it would have been sold on ebay by now. But I'm pretty damn sure no one knows where the last one is located.

some 48 y/o programmer has it in his mom's basement - thats my theory and I'm sticking to it

"every first-party Sega Dreamcast game, (55 games in total)"

That's pretty impressive, good job Sega. Two-ish years, 55 games, most of them quality.

And the whole Willy Wonka idea was way cooler than giving it away in a biased magazine nobody reads.

damn i knew i should have picked up those dreamcasts that shopko liquidated for like $50 that christmas. I saw them and came back the next day and all 4 were gone.

I still have that issue of Gamepro, I think. This was a contest in which you could win the last DC signed by the development team. It also came with like 70 or 80 games as well. They never announced a winner, though.

I think this showed up on ebay fairly recently, like about a year ago. I seem to remember seeing one with development team signatures on it. It wasn't gold, though, but I don't remember specifics. Didn't think it was special at the time.
