OK, so my 5 year old computer has finally crapped out on me and I need a new one. I want a good gaming computer from a place that mainly makes gaming computers (i.e. Alienware, not Dell). I don't need a screen or speakers, just the everything else. I'm looking to spend $1000-1500, might consider something up to $2000 but it would have to be a major improvment from the stuff that's $1000-1500. Mainly I want something that can play todays games and if I need to upgrade mainly I would just have to update my graphics card and not much else. Ok, thanks.

get ur computer custom made. u can usually spend 500-1000 with everything good :)
dont get it from a crappy company like alienware

Cheap and Alienware/other specialized companies do not mix. Buy the parts, build your own. Its a lot cheaper, its not hard, and it feels more like "your" system.

Build your own its not that hard and it comes out a lot cheaper. Also you will save a ton of money. for what Alienware charges for a rig you could build 3 pc of your own that are so much better.

I'm also looking for a new computer since my laptop doesn't run the more recent games too well (it's mainly to play WoW well). I'm interested in building my own though since there are plenty of guides out there on teaching you to build computers. I think 600-800 should be a good price for me to aim at.

I just sent you specifications and links to each part you need (except for psu and case). It's just under 1.5k and uses the new GeForce 7800 GTX card. You're welcome. :)

If anyone else is interested, here they are:

That CPU is $40 cheaper at newegg

http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.asp?Item=N82E16819103533

and you could go with the clawhammer for $267 from newegg as well

A couple of other things:
-For the same price as that HD you could get better 160gb ones, some of the Seagate Barracudas come to mind.

-Should be able to get a decent case and 500W powe supply for around 100 or so.

-The Audigy 2 is nice, but I bet most people wouldn't notice the difference, especially if you don't have some nice speakers to go with it. How old are the ones you plan on keeping? Most of the good motherboards have suprisingly decent on-board audio if you don't have the speakers to go with a nice audio card...

-Is building a cpu a option for you?

Nice build though redgopher.

Very Nice, might steal this idea in a couple months, might get parts at different times...makes it feel cheaper that way rofl.
see, the problem is I don't have the time to build my own that's why I wanted to buy one already done.
Then you will pay at least $1,000 more for the same configuration. If you don't have an hour to build a computer, how the hell do you have time for gaming?

It took me 3 hours to build my computer, bathroom/food breaks and all. It's the only one I've ever built and I'm really proud of it, plus I know a lot more about how to fix them and the knowledge really came in handy. If you'd rather pay $1000 more and wait for shipping instead go for it.
