They do have Ultra or High Speed memory Sticks....for the one who asked.
I doubt the PSP will take any advantage of higher speed MS Duo's, and in any case, for game saves and MP3's, it doesn't make any difference, since the file sizes are too small for the speed to make any real difference. For video, it might make some small difference, if the PSP could use a higher-speed MS Duo.

I could have sworn that I just read in OPM that the PSP supports both the regular speed and the fast speed Duo's. I'm almost certain of it because they talked a bit about the benefit of the faster ones for video.

This is high speed memory stick. It's the Pro duo. They make plan duo stick that are slower. And yes, the PSP can support both.

This is the cheapest one I've seen. I'll order one when I get paid. Thanks for posting Stealthy!

As I didn't read OPM, I wasn't aware of that it could use the faster cards. The one listed above, being a Pro Duo, is a higher-speed product. Standard Duo's didn't go above 128MB or 256MB, if I remember correctly. Video would be the only thing that the difference in throughput would make any difference on, and as the screen isn't that big, it might not make any difference that is noticeable.

comp usa has the same brand on sale with instant rebates and mail in, making them 29.99 each. 15 instant rebate, and a 15 mail in if you don't mind waiting for it. both are 512: not sure if they are compatable with the psp, if you know if they are/not-please let us know. digital cameras and mem sticsk for them are not an aera i get into

The top one is a CompactFlash card, the bottom one is a Secure Digital card. Neither one works in the PSP. PSP only takes Memory Stick Duo's.
What are the benefits of the memory disks on the PSP? (Besides burned movies)

Will they replace a memory card?
AFAIK, it is the memory card for the PSP. Sony bundles a 32MB with it, so you have something to use with it, though higher capacity cards are needed if you want to play video or MP3's. Or have a huge-ass memory card for saves.

Too bad he doesn't have any 1GB cards. Those are the ones most people want.

For PSP, 512 is nice and more than sufficient for saves and MP3s, but it takes a little more space than that for many DVD movies at best quality, based on what I've read. I'd like to be able to have a movie, MP3s, AND saves on a single card for those long trips. I don't want to keep track of extra cards, easily losable.

Thanks for the heads up, though.
Theoretically, after you scale a DVD down to the PSP's resolution it would likely be under half a gig, right?
Depends on the length of the movie and how much of a quality hit you are willing to take. From what I've read, average movies at max quality are 600-700 MB.

This is just based on what I've read around the Internet. I don't have a PSP yet to do any tests.

Of course, if you're doing 30 min and 1 H TV shows, 512 would be fine. Or you could lower the framerate or increase compression. 512 will work fine for most people, I'd just rather have max quality and room to spare.

I ordered from this seller as well over the weekend. Seems like I'll get these puppies tomorrow since he lives 10 miles away from me :)

Yeah, I really wanted a 1 GB card, but Im more than happy to get a $55 512MB one.
I was just worried that I would even be able to get the 512s after PSP launchs.

Whn I scale movies for my pocket pc they are about 300mb. But thats divx. big thing is trying a couple of setting while encoding.
the price of that card is an everyday price. at least thats what i see.
What is a Sony DUO? What's Duo mean?
these things are pricy, and you need 'em depending on what you do with your psp it seems. So I'm gonna have to say DUO means Give Us Your Money!

wow, i was told about this yesterday and he had like 50, and then i checked today and they werre all gone... but then he made another auction that has 200 of theses for "Buy it now" price of $54... pretty good, im thinking about ordering it =)

now the question is if anyone knows deals on a 1gb stick =P

What is the size of a movie when converted for play on a PSP (if it is, say, 1.5-2 hours in length)?

That will determine whether I get this or wait for a 1gb deal. Thanks stealthy.

myke.

I ordered one on Friday (it may have been Thursday), but in any case it just came in the mail...already. Not a bad deal.

I've been messing with converting some Marx Bros. movies, since they're black and white, I might be able to fit about two of them onto a 512 at a resolution where they will still be pretty watchable.

I have one on order from Onsale.com for $106 shipped; the cheapest price I've seen. However, I don't know if they're still taking orders, as they've had some distribution problems from the tsunami, and the next batch of 1GB cards won't be shipping until late April... I picked up a 512MB to hold me over until my 1GB arrives, and then I can decide whether to hold onto the 512 or just dump it for nearly the price I paid for it.

When you convert it to PSP format, you can adjust the compression to be whatever size you want, pretty much.

I read somewhere in an article today that a Sony executive said that one of their mistakes was overpricing the memory sticks (it was in the context of them announcing a new line of mp3 players this week), and that they'd be bringing the cost down in the near future. Of course, I'm sure there will still be shortages for a while when the PSP is released.

i purchased one yesterday. received TODAY! next day shipping?!? wonderful!

just FYI... when he runs out/quits selling them there is always this site ECOST.COM. and dont worry abou the time. i have been watching it for over a week to see if time runs out, and it hasnt for atleast a week now!

ENJOY ALL!!!

somebody at ign got the card from him and its only a 256 but labeled 512 and everyone is freaking out lol

Go to pricegraber.com for the best prices on these. They have several stores listing 1 gig models as low as 120$ but there sold out. I've also seen the 512 model for about 55$.
