Good deals on Xbox live 12 month cards?

I just got an xbox 360 and I'm not yet signed up for the paid version of live. I've heard people getting the 12-months cards for as cheap as 30-40 and I was just wondering where/what time of year you can get that deal. I'm honestly not going to be on live 24/7 and I don't see a point in paying $5 a month for something I'm not going to use all that much. Thanks for the input!
