So i'm in need of some good headphones. I've had an ipod for around 2 years now and i'm ashamed to admit that i use the crappy white buds that came with it.

I'm interested in either:
A) some good ear buds
B) some retro style headphones...the one with huge ear covers

I really don't know what's good anymore, so any help would be appreciated.

I bought some Sony earbuds, I don't remember the model number, for under $20. They come in the little disc that you can store them in by spinning it. They sound incredible for the size. Highly recommended.

The better ones under $40 are the Koss KSC35/KSC75 and the Portapro's. The KSC 75's are about $15 and are better than most headphones under $50. The Portapro's are $35-$40 and are the absolute best headphones under $50-$60. Whatever you do, do not buy a Sony unless its an MDR-V6, Sony makes garbage headphones and earbuds.

Above $50, you might want to look at some Grado SR60's for about $65-$70. Can't go wrong with Sennheisers, either.

Try some Sennheiser HD201. They're around $20 on Amazon and at Target. They're ear coupling (over the ear), not on the ear and they sound great.

check out the sony ex71s or ex81s on amazon. they have them pretty cheap and since it's amazon there's free shipping and no tax. I've had the 81s for almost a year and I love them.

the quality's good and they look pretty nice too. the only thing is that they're canalphones so they actually go into your ear canal instead of just sitting next to it. because of that they offer better quality, but that also means you have to position them correctly and they can get pretty dirty if you don't have good ear hygeine. the only difference between the 71s and the 81s is that the 81s have the loop around the ear, IIRC.

Listen to Dafoomie -- besides the fact that he is always right, the Grados kick ass for the price, and they look very retro cool.

Good read... I've been needing a new pair of headphones for working out in, might have to check out the Koss KSC75/35.

I totally agree with this. I just recently got the ex51s and even those are really good. I got those off eBay for like $22. High quality earphones. Also they are part of the "nude" series. Seriously. Really good earphones.

And whatever you do, dont listen to these two. MDREX51 and 71s are quite possibly the shittiest headphones known to man. I had a pair and my brother had a pair. They are notorious for their awesome quality, yet shitty, short-lasting and easily breakable cord. POS in my book. I recommend the Shure E2 series. Spend the extra moolah for awesome long lasting buds.

The Sony Earbuds do sound very good, I just could NOT stand the funky cord design. How the cord didn't end in a perfect V before intertwining the L/R cords, was suppose to sorta sit on one of your shoulders on the back or something... UGH! If you can get past that hard-to-describe oddity, they're great.

Yeah, those are it. You might be able to find a slightly better deal, but thats about what they usually cost. You won't find better at that price point... If you want to spend a little more, the Grado SR-60's for $70 blow everything else away thats under $100-$120. If I had the money, I'd pick some up myself.

Personally, I just picked up a pair of Shure E2Cs the other night, and they work pretty well as long as you can find the right "fit" for your ear. I had a hard time, but I'm starting to get there, and they are great. I go to Borders and study on my lunch hour, and I usually have to deal with all the annoyingness that goes with the cafe there. But now I just put these in and everything else just goes away. The only negative I have so far is that the bass is a tad weak (I've heard this a lot, so it seems to be a common complaint). Other than that, I would definitely recommend these if you don't mind paying $90-100 for a good set of headphones.
Nobody wanted to recommend Etymotic Ultimate Ears?
Etymotic and Shure both make excellent earbuds, I'm just not a fan of earbuds at all.
Coby headphones. Fye $10. And they do the noise cancellation thing pretty well. Not completely. But pretty well.
Noise cancelling headphones for $10? What a world we live in.
Nobody wanted to recommend Etymotic Ultimate Ears?
That\d be a helluva combo! (FYI, Etymotic and Ultimate Ears are two different companies ;))

Are they good enough for PSP?

The volume of the PSP is so low! I can barely hear anything when I'm on the subway or in a noisy restaurant.

I got my portapro's in and i must say they are the most comfortable headphones i've ever used.

and the low bass notes sound amazing compared to the crappy ipod headphones. Thanks for reccomending them to me.

the only thing thats "great" about the bose is that they are comfortable. the sound quality is easily surpassed by a number of different headphones - Grado and Sennheiser (mid-grade) come to mind...
