I have been using Xnews for a long time now, but it only downloaded binaries at about 200 kb/sec, stops for a split second after a part downloads, then starts again. This is despite the fact than I should be over 600kb/sec with my downloads. I have heard good thins about NewsLeecher. Are there any other good ones? Free is good, but I don't care if I have to pay for it. As long as the downloads are fast like they should be.

nice..

I used to use Newshark and newsbin pro..back when at&t used to allow to connect to their server for free

I haven't found a place or server that I can do it for free anymore... but both programs are nice

Newsbin looks pretty good. I'll keep that on in mind when i decide what to get. Thanks!

BTW, a free server I used to use was biggulp.readfreenews.net

I have no idea if it still works or not. Speeds were slow, and I couldn't always connect due to the number of people using the service. http://www.readfreenews.net/

I use NewsLeecher when I know what files I am looking for specifically, searching with beta.binaries.nl or binsearch.info. And when I want to browse the newsgroups, I use Forte Agent. Both are good.

Me too. I've tried all the other ones but I keep going back to Powergrab.

Good luck finding it though, the developer and website just disappeared a few years back. I have what I believe is the newest version that I can upload to rapidshit if anyone is interested and can't find it anywhere else.

So far I have been testing Newsleecher and it is pretty sweet. Utilizing multiple connections really makes a world of difference.

i'll have to check it out.. it appears comcast has a deal with giganews. 2.0 gigs a month. anything more is an extra cost.

LOL 2.0 I go through that in less than 1hr.
i do to..but I'm not paying for access...screw that monthly charge...
I used to use Earthlink's free service. It used to be really good for a free service. Retention wasn't long but most binaries were complete. Late last year everything started showing up incomplete and I just had enough of it.

I dig Giganew but there is another provider out there that is supposed to be really good. I think I have it bookmarked at home. I can't remember the name at the moment.

The thing I hate about Xnews is that you have to use a seperate program (Stunnel) to use SSL. Newsleecher took me a little bit to get used to but it really seems to do what I want.

i used to use AT&T broadband service.. that worked beautifully.. i could download what i wanted as much as I wanted..until comcast bought them out...bastards...
