I use a wireless optical mouse with my PC, and it's been great. I usually use it directly on the desk next to the keyboard. However, the mouse seems less responsive lately. I noticed that the area on the desk where I use the mouse has this discolored blotch now, probably because I gradually wore off the fake wood finish and exposed some of the particle board underneath. Anyway, I'm assuming this is why the mouse seems less responsive lately, so I'm wondering if I should get a mouse pad or something. I know that certain types of surfaces are supposed to be bad for OPTICAL mouses, so what type of thing should I look for (whether it be a mouse pad or just some convenient household item)?

^ Haha, I'd only get that if I were a hardcore FPS'er.

Otherwise, any mousepad is fine. Just make sure it has a relatively hard surface. Optical mice aren't very picky.

The icemat thing won't load for me...How much are they? I've been using the pad that came with my dell, it's a mooth surface and it's not one of those ones that are thick and padded.

Yeah a simple mouse pad will work just fine. (its what i use)

Basically any smooth clean surface

Anyone who buys one of those Icemats - which which are 50 bucks - needs to be banned from this site. Immediately and forever.

Anyway, cheap $1 mousepad from anywhere should be fine with an optical.

I use this Blekin mouse pad with a gen wrist rest. Works great with my MX518 or Logitech OEM mouse. I think it was $9 at Office Max.
