Good survival horror movies.

Soodmeg

CAGiversary!
I love survival horror movies.

Zombie movies.....world coming to an end for no reason movies.

Pretty much anything that has a small group of people cut off from the world.

I think I have tapped out pretty much most of the well known movies out there. And I am getting down towards the nitty gritty, problem is that there is no actually survival horror genre so its hard to find new stuff.

Hit me with your suggestions please and thank you.
Give us an example of what you are looking for. Dawn of the Dead stuff?
Any type stuff.

Dawn of the Dead
Cloverfield (though I hated that movie)
The Mist

Hell even war movies that have a small group of people trying to get through the enemy.

Its the survival part that really interests me. The being cut off from real resources, not knowing where the enemy is coming from, not being able to trust people around you because of the paranoia.

Things of that nature.
Not a horror movie, but Rescue Dawn was a cool flick about a downed pilot trying to escape prison camp in Laos.
Thats in my nextflix queue right now. Its buried under my girlfriends dumbass romantic comedies.

I have actually seen almost all of those. Alive was a great flick.

Also who ever Fart Bubble that silent movie seems awesome. That going to be on the top of the list for next week.

I watch Cube about 15 times. I always show it to anyone who says they havent seen it. And surprisingly A lot of people have not seen that movie.

Cube 2 was alright but not as good.

Its far and away Luc Besson's best movie (though Le Femme Nikita is obviously really close with the international version of The Professional [aka Leon] pulling up just behind Nikita)
From Dusk till Dawn
Planet Terror
30 Days of Night
Shaun of the Dead
28 Days Later

Do any of these fit?
All of those fit perfectly. But I have seen all of them before.

Thanks for the suggestions though guys.
Theres the escape from New York/LA movies.
I never actually seen either of those. I never knew what they were about.

Are they survival stories? I thought they were just run of the mill action movies.

It's set in a post apocalyptic NY/lLA. It's kind of mad max in a more urban setting. It is more action that survival i guess.

Thats fine....I will give it a look.

Hell...might as well use netflix to the max since I get it for free anyway.

dead alive

cemetry man

all romero horror films except land of the dead

zombie

the stuff

invasion from mars

aliens

battle royale

I'd suggest 30 Days of Night and -- though I haven't seen the film -- the novel of I am Legend defined survival horror, so the movie might be worth checking out. Also, Dog Soldiers -- take Dawn of the Dead, replace zombies with werewolves and average citizens with Scottish commandos and you have this movie.

The Thing - Carpenter remake of course, I love this movie, really awesome

Alien - Ridley Scott, what a visionary

2001:ASO - May require a few watchings to fully understand, classic Kubrick

The original is worth watching, too. Different from the remake of course, but still good.

Since you've seen a bunch, can you recommend a few? I love survival horror. Always looking for more.

Outside of what's listed in this thread.

Speaking of originals, the original Flight of the Phoenix was pretty darn good.

Warning Sign, Night of the Comet, and The Day After Tomorrow. All very different movies, but all fit survival\horror to a certain extent.

Oh yeah! Never saw the remake, but maybe I'll have to, just to see if it sticks to the ... er ... plot direction.

Judgment Night (the movie not the Twilight Zone episode)
The Running Man
Predator
The Omega Man
Event Horizon
The Poseidon Adventure
Chopping Mall (think Dawn of the Dead with robots)

Well the second one is great to see for the special effects and vision. So then you can think of the incredible acting of the first one, but have the beautiful visuals of the second to compliment it.

Well this is the third or 4th vote for "The Thing," watch it if you haven't. Also check out Mad Max and Road Warrior, post apocalyptic crazies are always fun.
Sleepaway Camp.

All of them.
I actually almost bought the DVD box set when deepdiscount had them on sale. Been forever since I've seen them and I don't recall if I saw the last one. Then they ran them all back to back for a week on Monsters HD and I forgot how bad they were.

That being said, "Monsters HD" is the greatest channel around. Sometimes they run too many shitty sequels and not enough of the originals though. But horror films in HD kick ass. I saw the original Texas Chainsaw Massacre in HD and its looks phenomenal.
The Omega Man
Omega Man is also great to watch for all the 70s kisch. Esp that porno music soundtrack - hilarious!

Reminds me:

Planet of the Apes

Time Machine (just wanted to repeat the reco...)

Starship Troopers (just remember -- it's a parody)

Most of the great ones like The Thing have been mentioned, but I'll throw out two lesser films

Pitch Black
Tremors

Oh yeah, Pitch Black was awesome!

Man did Vin Diesel ever screw up that franchise.

Check out The Beach. A great movie I expected not to like and appreciate more and more after repeat viewings.

Ravenous = most unique soundtrack ever. It's this quirky music but it either makes scenes 10x creepier (like the cave search) or makes them 10x funnier because it totally doesn't fit the context of what you are seeing.
