I stopped at my goodwill today, they have games but nothing good, just sports titles. I spot four nes carts and ask how much. The woman looks at the carts, no tag on them and says three bucks. I say how do you know that, there is no tag. She calls over another woman who then says they are 10 bucks each.

yep, goodwill is very ymmv. I also happen to live by some sucky ones.

You shoulda been like, but some lady over there said they were $1 a piece (or something similarly made up), and hope they dont call you on it.

Prices are very YMMV on all goodwills, salvation army's, and value villages. In each store, it is up to the person who decides to put the itemon the floor what price they will put it as. There doesn't seem to be a national database that they check against.

Goodwill has caught on to whats hot and puts it ont heir www.goodwill.com site. Where it goes for more than it does on ebay.

Your lucky your finding anything there anymore. But you will sometimes.

They normally overprice it and it sits until the 50% off days for that color tag.

my bad goodwill.org

which gives you a link to shopgoodwill.com

Though I love the internet, this form of the global marketplace really pisses me off. I used to love to go to the goodwills, value villages and garage sales to pick up some good stuff. Now they put their stuff on this ebay-like structure, and if they ever do have anything good in the stores, people pick it up to put it on ebay.

Some months ago, I brought a copy of Yoshi's Island SNES up to the register at Salvation Army and the clerk rang it up as 27 cents. She had a sweet (but I don't care) face.

It is very YMMV. The OP could probably go back the next day and see the games marked $1.99 each.

I've seen my GW vary between .99 and 4.99 for SNES or Genny titles.

The goodwill near me is a joke. Used games are priced higher than gamestop and the furniture is usually busted up and priced like it was in good shape. It's always good for a chuckle to wander in and see what they're asking for stuff.

The thing about goodwill, is it's not one big company calling the shots- It's a bunch of little companies, all managing their own regional stores-which is why everything is so YMMV.

My sis deals with this alot, becuase we're right on the border between 2 of the mini-goodwill companies. People bring her returns from a store that's part of 1 company, but her store is part of the other so she can't take the return. (Which makes people made becuase "It's all Goodwill, right?")

Another goodwill thread....
I am going to start a SuperPawn thread, just so I can see 4 more threads dealing with the same subject spawn up after mine. ;)

After these GW threads were made, I bet every CAG gamer and scalper headed right to their nearest one. Are the games in good condition there?

It sucks how you cant buy things online anymore at superpawn.

Goodwill is definitely hit or miss. Wound up with a pretty big hit today, though. Saw 2 cart-only N64 games in a display case, but couldn't see the label for one of them since it was behind the other. Even though I was thinking to myself that it probably wouldn't amount to much, I went ahead and had someone open up the case to check....

Much to my surprise, it was a copy of Ogre Battle 64 with a $3.99 sticker on it! Needless to say, I bought it. :)

I'm lucky to have a pretty good one near me - whenever I go there I tend to find really good stuff, like the dozen or so complete sega master system games for $1 each, or the complete copy of The 7th Guest, which even had the vhs it came with for $4, the complete sealed copy of NEverwinter Nights Platinum collection for $3, the stockpile of NEs games for $2-$3 each, which included Kid Icaras, Super C, and some other good games, and yes, even some decent pants. My hopes are high they will have a system for sale there the next time I go.

I'm a little upset with one of the goodwills in town. I go and find a box with a bunch of saturn games and a system. It's marked as $50 for everything. I tried to buy a few games, but they would only sell it as a bundle. There looked like a few good games like Panzer Dragoon (not Saga) and earthworm jim. It's the first time I've seen saturn games at one of those stores in months. I might go and try later when another cashier is there.

Good luck, if it's in a tagged box and the merchandise itself isn't tagged, it's a bundle. Some places won't sell untagged items due to fraud.

LOL Sounds alot like my local Salvation Army stores. Then again, I foolishly bought what later turned out to be a $5 paperweight in the form of an older PS1 one day from them. So, that turned me off buying used systems from them.

However, yesterday I went to the Stroudsburg, PA store, where I found no less than 3 different systems(one with all the hook ups and the other 2 with no hookups and the one had its controllers being sold seperately).

I found a Saturn system(looked like it went through hell), a LARGE model I Genesis and a PSone(with all the wires AND a controller it looked like).

The Saturn and Genesis had no wires at all with them and were marked $19 something. LOL The PSone had all hookups and was also marked $19 something.

And, the Genesis controllers were being sold seperately, for around $5 each. What a rip!!!

Either way, I found some decent buys in this store, they had a slew of old NES and Genesis carts, as well as ONE Xbox game. AND, it was marked with a blue sticker, which was 50% off yesterday.

So, I quickly snapped up Star Trek:TNG for Genesis and Hunter: The Reckoning for $7.77 total. Hunter came with a second disc as well, not sure if it was an 'expansion' or what not. The other disc is titled: Redeemer.

This is by far the most incredible find I've had in a Salvation Army store in a while. I may go back there next week to see if they get in any other good stuff.

If ya ask me though, these stores get this stuff donated to them and SOME don't even take the common courtesy(like EB/GS) to try and wash some of the crud off of the items before selling them.

Like I said prior, that Saturn I saw in Stroudsburg looked like it survived a dust mushroom cloud. And the Genesis wasn't far off either.

 I do this everytime I go. Also when they do get decent "New" furniture donated from Target, it always gets snatched up by eBay hoarders on a 50% off day.

My local Goodwill just flat-out just doesn't deal with electronics of ANY kind. The stuff they do get is sent to other Goodwills or a Goodwill electronics specialty store (if you can believe that!) near Fort Worth.

Did a quick run through of my local Goodwill today, and couldn't find any old cartridges floating around. Oddly enough, someone trying to "organize" put them in with the cassette tapes. Nothing spectacular, mostly N64 commons, but seeing that rounded grey plastic made my day!

No super finds this weekend, but I did score an Aladdin laserdisc for $0.33.

All I ever see videogame-wise is games donated by Target marked for more then retail. Starsky and Hutch for GameCube...only $22.99!

Goodwill is crap. Stopped in today to find some awesome 'deals'.

Polarium, new for the DS, $19.99! Only a $13 markup from Target which they couldn't even sell.

World Tour Poker PS2 $19.99

Hundreds of off-brand iPod cases $29.99

Do people buy this shit?

My local Goodwill doesn't have much in the way of electronics or games. Then again, I never to remember to check the display case, which is shoved off to the side.

I did go in on a lark for the first time in ages last week, and got very luck. Picked up Space Quest 4 and Planescape; Torment for a grand total of $10.70. SQ4 was in a generic jewel case, but the CD is pristine. P:T was the original case, kind of beat up, but the CDs were fine and so far it's played great.

Reminds me of when I saw a Simpsons season boxset for only $39.99 at the now closed Goodwill I used to work at. And it was sitting in a glass case that was right next to the EXIT door. Needless to say it wasn't long before it got stolen. Idiots.

Oh, and one time I saw a Target donated Samsung 26 inch HDTV for $229.99 which isn't a bad deal until you factor in a missing remote, a missing manual, and god knows what other problems it probably has. I'll stick with my Samsung I paid only $430ish for. At least I know it works. :D

I stopped in one of the goodwills today and the only two things of even remote interest was NHL 2K for Dreamcast and a NIB TiVo. I didn't check the prices though. I'll go back on monday to find out, if it's still there.

Scored an Intellivision w/ 18 games (and all the manuals and insets) tonight. The only thing missing was the video cable, which are easy enough to find.

They had an SNES, but the plastic was all chewed up in the corners, like someone had pried it open.

Mine still has the same tired-ass copy of Sonic 2 and *insert old sports game here, it changes often* that they'll have until the end of time.

I think I should raid the ones in Evansville.

last time I went a couple weeks ago all they had was a ps1 controller for $2 (which I bought), and an n64 for $25 and not in the best cosmetic shape (passed). They had a couple sprt titles for genesis too, but like hell I'd ever buy those. I did pick up a just out of the box telescope that retails for $100 for $25 though, and they had 3 there.

i got the sims 2 dvd edition new sealed, the lady let me break the seal and look at it before i bought it for 14.99 - the day after it was released.

Found an awesome score today. Super Mario 4 for the NES for $19.99! What a value! According to the GW employee 'Thats what they sell for on ebay'.

heh, only thing mine has right now is a sega genesis with NO games/cords/controllers or anything, for the wonderful price of $25!

I picked up a PSOne for $4 today, had all the connections and one controller. It was supposed to be $14, but the window licker behind the counter messed up when she rang it up. Works perfectly.

God I hate the smell inside Goodwill. I saw like 5 copies of B&W 2 and 5 copies of Sims 2 for $9 there (both DVD). Already had B&W2 and didn't want Sims 2 though. They were sealed and all. Also got these Phillip earbuds for $8 that go for around $40 online and $55 at my K-mart. A friend of mine also picked up a tivo with 40 gb HD. I think he got it around $20. Tivo itself didn't work but the HD worked great.

I love it when they have these great deals.

I got a Mario Kart DS for $6.99 not that long ago. Plus I just posted some other deals that I got from Goodwill in the yardsale thread.

$5 SNES in the box from Salvation Army.
$14.99 Saturn (model 2) with all hook ups and a disc only Doom
$7.99 N64 with no hook ups, but two Nintendo controllers

I also saw a Genesis (model 2) in the box, for $9.99 which I would have bought but I hesistated too long, I would have bought it just for the box since systems are like water.

Just went to Goodwill today and they had Heroes of Might & Magic and Rome: Gold Edition (Total War and Barbarian Invasion). Both for $6.99, so I picked them up. The employee said they got them straight from Target so they were new. While they weren't sealed, I opened them up and both were in perfect condition. Only problem is the box has the price written on it both sides really big.

Installing was a bugger too. It was a normal CD, so each game had 4 cds.

Right after I graduated highschool I found a brand new Atari 2600 at goodwill for $10. This was like 5 years ago though.....they would probably try to sell it for $50 now.

This was the greatest find i've ever had at a goodwill...I later sold that thing on ebay with 5 or 6 games for $110. Sweet.

Goodwills are only as good as the area they are in. If you live in a rural area, you'll never find anything good. In a metro area, you're almost certain to find at least one good goodwill. Also shopping at the Goodwill also requires patient. Some days you'll go in and find nothing. Then the next day you hit the jackpot. But don't give up because you'll never know what you'll find.

Over a span of four months visting the Goodwill at least once a week, I found a complete Playmobil Victorian Dollhouse (worth $150-$200) for only $3.03, a fully functioning Sony Digital Mavica Camera for $30, working Palm PDA with cradle for only $10 (stylus was missing), Aqua Teen Force Vol.1 complete and like new $5, two copies of Mystical Ninja Starring Goemon for $4, Seinfeld Season Five Complete and near mint for $10, and a working 20GB Tivo with Lifetime Service for only $17. Don't write off the Goodwill yet, especially if you live near a huge city or a rich neighborhood. Just kept searching until you find a good one. And when you find one, visit it at least once a week or twice a month. You've bound to run in to a couple of good deals.

My good will had multiple copies of kingdom hearts tons of ps2 games and some other junk $10 each to bad i was broke at the time

I stop by the Goodwill Outlet store every so often. A lot of stuff is in bins that you have to dig through, but there's lots of interesting stuff to find. I get a lot of "We used to have one of those" moments. They also have a rack with CDs, DVDs, and other discs. Best of all, everything's $1, no matter what you find in there.

Last time I was there, a younger guy who worked there asked what I was getting and had a little chat about games. Then he said how he loves the graphic violence in games like Hitman, Manhunt, and GTA and got a weird look, so I slipped away and checked out.

For about $60 last night:

N64 Atomic Purple edition, with box & instructions - works perfectly
NES w/ 2 controllers, cables and Zapper - kinda flaky, but needs cleaned
2nd NES w/ no cables
DC Tomb Raider
DC Expendable
DC Web Browser
NES Super Mario 3
NES Super Mario/Duck Hunt/Track Meet x2
NES Casino Kid
NES Duck Tales
NES Xevious
NES Tetris
NES Joust
Genesis Sonic 3D Blast

Oh, and an N64 alarm clock radio
