Hey guys well it's that time again. Another CAG week with another Goomba freebie. This time I'm not giving out a game accessory or toy, but rather a game itself. Sure, it's not the newest game but it is free and it is brand new and factory-sealed ^_^ If you haven't played this one yet and you have an Xbox or an Xbox 360 (which has backwards compatibility for this game) then here's your chance! Heck, you'll even get free shipping so what are you waiting for? Might as well enter!

The prize this week: Dead to Rights for the original Xbox.

To enter, all you have to do is respond to this post (or the sister one on the Goozex site) and answer the simple following question:

Q: Do you collect video games in the sense that you buy them and them save them for long periods of time? If so, do you actually go back to play them again and again or do you simply keep them on a bookshelf as a type of elite collection?

Your answer doesn't in any way affect your chances of winning, but it should make for an interesting discussion any how. If you missed the last contest, feel free to watch our video where we selected the winner here:

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=3yA1iSYaWUE

Good luck to all of you. The winner will be selected after midnight on Sunday. Happy CAG'ing and Happy Thanksgiving as well ^_^

I keep almost all of my video games; I even still have my NES and SNES games. I haven't played them in a while, but ocassionally (...make that rarely) I'll go back and see if they still work and play them for a day or two.

I do buy games and save most of them for eternity (although it's tempting to trade some more on goozex). I will go back and play them on rare occasssions (normally SNES). Hmm, maybe I should break the N64 out this weekend?

Cool contest btw! I liked how you made the video selecting the winner for the last one.

Glad you liked my video Darklighter. I plan to do something similar for the next contest =)

I also have a TON of games I never play, which is why I joined Goozex. I figure that I can get hundreds (if not thousands) of dollars worth of points for trading in games I never play, and I can pick up some newer titles that I'd be spending $50-$60 a pop on if I were to pay full price. I think it may very well cure my pack-rat nature of saving every game I come across.

Oh and these contests should help me clean out my closets of games a bit too =) If you haven't joined Goozex yet feel free to click my link below...I'll get 5 free trades and you'll get a free game. Definitely the coolest game trading site out there ^_^

I've kept all the games I've ever bought. I always think that I should keep them in case I ever want to play them again. But usually once I'm finished with them I never go back so they all just kinda sit there collecting dust lol... I've learned from this and started renting games I know I'll be done with within a week.

I collect games I love. Marios, Zeldas, MGS, but often times, I DO NOT go back and play them, but rather just have them on the bookshelf, as a collectible. I just can't part with some games while others I don't care.

i buy them to play and then collect, i only trade/sell doubles. i do play them later, and i also plan on playing them more after i am out of school. also, at night i stare into my wall of games and smile my way into dreamland...

I usually like to keep ones that I liked and have them there if I ever want to play them again. But for games that I know I'll never really play again, I'll go ahead and trade them.

I don't really collect games, but I do keep the good games after playing it. I only trade in the crappy games. The good games I keep so I can play them again in the future.

I save the ones I enjoyed and could see myself playing again or wanting to show my kids someday - I get rid of the rest.

I love how many different answers there are to this question because when you think about it, most gamers (at least the ones on sites like this) are always striving for the newer games so when the new games come out the old ones are almost always shelved. It's interesting in that this is one of the only hobbies that's like that. It's really easy to come up with a HUGE collection worth thousands and thousands of dollars in a little time and like many of you said, the games are there to go back to play, but truth is very few of us actually do go back to play them.

That being said, do any of you guys have Jumping Flash for the original PSone? Just curious ^_^

=JJ=

You bring up a good point javeryh, I would like a lot of these games to be experienced by my kids in the future (I say future because I don't have any kids...yet =P). Though with my backlog they may do nothing but game for the first couple decades of their life.

I will usually only keep the games that I will go back and finish again (or try to beat the non-story elements of games). If I can't see myself doing that, then the game is traded.

I keep all my games intending to go back and play them again. There is also something new to play, so that never happens. Thus, my collection is more a sign of my complacency than my elite gaming ability. At times, I borrow games from friends or family members. Unless it is the rare great, I do not bother to buy my own copy to keep.

I watched the last contest's video and wow thats a ton of slips of paper.

To answer the question, yes I do like I recently picked up Ikaruga and its on my shelf along with my other rare and sought after games and I have no intentions of selling it. Hell some games I keep sealed in anticipation of it becoming a hot commidty in the future.

I actually have the sequel somewhere in my room. I remember seeing it for five bucks at some garage sale and went ahead and bought it since its was like my first psx games I played when I was little.

First of all, yes it was a LOT of slips of paper... I really should come up with a better system hehe. I spent nearly an hour cutting out all the papers and making sure everyone on the list was accounted for. Maybe in the future I'll write a quick PHP script to do it, but that takes the prize pig out of the equation and that's half of the fun.

I can relate to seeking rare games (I just got Suikoden 1 for the PSone finally and it's in mint condition) and I seek those titles basically for shelf-gloating as well. I have let a few of my rarer titles go (Zelda Collector's Edition for Gamecube for instance) only to regret it and feel like repurchasing it back.

Still many of my games will be Goozexed away shortly :) I already have nearly 2500 points ($125 worth of credit) and by the end of the year I plan to have nearly $1000 in credits for which I can pick up the games I really want.

Good luck to all of you!

I collect them because I like to own them. I dont like to rent. If it is a multiplayer game there a great chance that I play it time to time.

Kyo if you're ever looking to sell the game let me know =) I don't know what happened to my copy of the game (I'm pretty sure my brother lost it years ago when I moved out) and I've been having a real Jumping Flash itch the last couple of years. If you do find it, let me know if you have the case/manual with it =) If you're not willing to trade/sell it then that's okay too ^_^ Treasure it for the gem that it is!

I buy every game that I THINK I will enjoy, but sadly I don't always get around to playing them right away. Most RPG games that look interesting, I buy and they sit around for maybe a year before I get around to them. My backlog at the moment is probbaly 10-15 RPGs that I plan on playing. I collect them I guess in a sense, but I always have the intent on playing them, someday.

I used to sell games when I was through with them. I ended up regretting it later when I found out I actually wanted to play them again. Usually I play through certain games again roughly every two years, so obviously I keep all my games now. Only games for recent systems are kept on my shelves, as I don't have near the room to store my whole collection on them.

I collect them ..... but the thing is sometimes I get the urge and I play them ... like for instance.... I like tetris and that last one for live doesnt do it for me ... so what did I do? well I pull my 64 and played tetris 4 way with a couple of friends that came over... So yea I collect but they get played sooner or later....

P.S. my mom STILL plays super mario bros on my old nes....

I usually keep my video games that I buy, but not for any specific reason. Really I think I'm just too lazy to actually sell them. Plus I hate selling my games and getting a fraction of the cost back. Realistically, I suppose it is better than nothing though.

A loaded question I see, well when I first got into gaming, yes I would just buy games and they would sit unplayed on my shelves gathering dust for several months. Sometimes I go back and play them, I've also been trying to sort through my games and decide which ones I will try to play down the road and the others which I will never play which go up here for trade.

When I was younger i didn't care much. I traded games back and forth, rented most of the good games for systems. Now I tend to hoard things and never get rid of them. No matter how bad the game was.

Except for a period in the late 90s where I took advantage of EB's liberal return policy(where you could return the game for full credit even if it was open) and a crazy trade-in offer they had(it was something like $20 bucks per game, plus an additional bonus for every game above 5 that you traded in), I've kept all my games. And yes, I definitely have games I haven't played(or even opened), so I'd say I'm a collector.

I collect games, mainly RPGs. A lot of my collection goes (sadly) unplayed/unfinished. I try to hit as many of them as I can though. None are left sealed, since I buy the games to play, not collect or resell later. The games I finish are proudly displayed on my bookshelves :).

I do collect. I have never traded a game back in as i feel it is a waste, and some games i will never find a good copy of ever again.

I also have a few rare titles like an unopened copy of Marble Madness for the NES in mint condition. Nothing very rare, but yah, I loved marble madness as a kid :D

Yes, I keep ALL of my games. And by all, I mean i have never given away/traded/sold ANY of the games I own. All though, I am thinking about starting. I do go back and play some of my old games, but only ones I really enjoyed, or felt had replay value.

I tend to keep all of the games that I have bought over the years. Its not nessacarily because they will go up in value, but I just love to play the classics. I guess Im also sort of a packrat though.

I always have every intention of collecting the games i buy.
Once the system has lost its value, or there is a better version of the console; then i decide to sell those games. But by that time, the games and console are worthless, money wise, and i end up with little money.
The only games i usually dont hold on to are bad games, like prey. the story was alright, but the online was a lag fest. I sold that game so quickly with no intention of ever holding on to it again.
I still have the original nintendo and alwasy find a kick out of playing "mike tysons: punchout" god i loved that game, along with snes, and n64. I still have all of those.
And i usually collect limited edition games, and probably wont end up selling those. So i guess you could say i hold on to good games, and then sell the bad games.

I don't collect them unless it's something that I actually play on a regular basis. Nostalgia is often better left alone just as good memories, nothing more.

I never thought about getting rid of the games I buy because of the nostalgia I get when I play through old games or because they are just too fun to play only a couple times. I play only the games that really impacted me of were really great. The other games just sit on a shelf next to my systems.

No, I collect video games when they are close to a rise in value.(2-3 month span.) I keep them as part of a collection and when one rises in value I'll either sell or keep for longer.

I wouldn't Say i Collect Video Games, because they are meant to be played. But when you do buy them, they do become part of a Collection, so really, it is a double Edged Sword.

I usually trade in my games (goozex or gametz) once i'm done with them. Done meaning i've beat it all or beat as much as i'm willing to suffer through.

i still have all of my old NES games, and a few PS2 and XBOX games, i'll get rid of some if i beat them and have no intention of ever playing again in most cases, but there are a few that i won't get rid of, i own all of the tony hawk games for the original systems (PS1 & 2 + XBOX) except for number one, but i do have tony hawk x2 for xbox, which has the first and second ones on it, also still have all of my GTA games.

A: as of right now im jobless so the few games i buy i buy to play. but im saving up to start a consel and game collection.

I'm a hoarder by nature, so I tend to keep most of the games I buy (Although I did trade Spy Hunter to EB for .75$) .I still have a few that I've picked up at various garage sales and whatnot that I haven't gotten to, but I'm usually pretty good about playing them all, and do revisit old favorites.

The only games I collect are for my SNES, I have been looking for the Mega Man Games, Donkey Kong relative games. I go back often to replay them as I can beat em in a day or so. Its fun to do so.

I trade in my X360 games all the time once I finish em.

I do collect games in the way that you put it. I never thought of it as collecting though.
I very, very rarely replay a game, unless you count :360: achievements, but I find it hard to sell/trade games that I've played. The only games I've replayed for fun are Super Metroid and Suikoden, and I don't think I finished Suikoden the second time through, but I've replayed Super Metroid back to back, starting again right after beating it, multiple times.
I guess I think that "Well, maybe one day I'll want to play it again, and if I get rid of it, I'd have to try to find a copy that isn't in horrible condition."
A good example of why I don't like to sell/trade my games are my PS1 games. I'd like to replay a couple of them, and maybe sell a few, but I lent my PS1 to my cousin and he lost all the games. :bomb: The only one I have left is FFVIII. So now I'd have to shell out a few hundred dollars to get back the games I already had.

Then I've recently gotten into the habit buying more games so now I have a 50 game backlog that I'll never get through, probably 90% are RPGs. And as for my backlog, I keep the game sealed until I am going to play it. I never buy a game to keep sealed as a collectors piece.

I don't play my older systems often, so i tend to try to get rid of my games when they they fetch a high value. PC games have little or no resale value, so i keep those out on a shelf. The rest of my newish titles get tucked into the entertainment center(theres a few doors so the games aren't viewable) while the old stuff gets put into storage with my 2 snes, 2 DC, 2 N64, Modded PS1. The collections really aren't anything to brag about, and i play too many games as it is.

Yes! I hold on to all of my games. I've got a complete NES Tape collection, including the Panesian games. Working on completing the collection 100% w/ Manuals and Boxes now.. which is quite a more difficult task.

Believe it or not I collect video games I beat, such as resident evil 0, 2, 3 , 4.

I love going back and experiencing the game again, after a suitable timefrime. But they also serve as trophy's, I can load the save before the final boss and finish it in front of friends if they dont believe me. So it gives me credibility as well.
