GOP offering pork to Dem senators that flip.

From Fox News:
http://politics.blogs.foxnews.com/2010/11/08/todays-power-play-gop-sweetens-its-offer-manchin
Republicans are making some big promises to try to lure West Virginia Senator-elect Joe Manchin to cross the aisle.

Aside from his pick of committee assignments (likely the Energy and Natural Resources Committee), Manchin might get support for one of his pet projects - a plant to convert coal to diesel fuel that has stalled under Democratic leadership in Washington.

It's one of Manchin's pet projects and could mean big money for the state's coal producers.

"Republicans believe in an ‘all of the above' approach to energy," one top Senate aide told Power Play. "And coal-to-diesel could certainly be part of that."

Manchin's switch could mean Republican support for not just $1 billion in seed money for the project but also a deal, much sought in coal country, to require the armed forces to use converted coal for fuel.
Only a billion dollars! Cheap!

Way to go team fiscal responsibility.

It never was about fiscal responsibility.

The lessons of 1980, 1994, and 2000 should have been noted and ingrained by now.

Graham's already leading the neocon charge for Iran, too.

lol look at this dummy

trying to fight fact with rumor

I'd be on board with banning earmarks. I don't care about how minuscule the effect is on the deficit, I just don't like the idea of earmarks in the first place.

That said, I'm not surprised why Mitch McConnell isn't on board with banning earmarks given this news. Plus I believe he brings home a shitload of pork.

it would kind of help if you actually read the article...

Notice the use of the word "might".

Last time I checked might did not indicate fact but was used when something may be a possiblity.

He was referring to your assertion that Obama's trip costs $2 billion. He was calling you a dummy for that.

Earmarks are actually good - Congress' job is to designate where money is spent. Otherwise, spending will fall on the executive branch.

It's the abuse of earmarks as favors that is bad. Perhaps an amendment proposing no earmarks if the budget contains a deficit of more than 2% would be a nice middle ground?

In any event, earmarks are popular to bash, but it doesn't touch the meat and bones of federal spending. We need to seriously cut imperial spending, not restrict one of main functions of Congress.
