I got a graphics card today and need some help installing it.

Well not so much installing it as knowing whether it will work with my computer.

It's an ATI Radeon x700 pro PCI-E. I know everyone says to get AGP but the only ones they had on Black Friday were PCI at my Best Buy. I figured since my computer is quite new it'd be able to support it but I'm not 100% sure and would like to know before I open the box and may not be able to return it.

My computer is a Compaq sr1650nx.

Thanks for any help you can offer.

EDIT: I finally found some specs online. I DO have an open PCI-E slot.

Now I'm reading through the card manual and I'm stuck at how to determine your motherboard chipset. Is that the processor or the motherboard? The processor is an AMD the motherboard is an Asus.

Which one do I need to know?

You have this computer:

Presario sr1650nx Minitower
AMD Athlon 64 3500+ 2.2GHz Processor, 1GB RAM, 250GB Hard Drive, 16X DVD+/-RW and 48X CD-Rom Drives, Windows XP Media Center Edition 2005

No, you don't have a PCI-Express slot. You have 2 PCI slots but the two are not mutually compatible. I guess the computer is pretty ancient but you can't get any good graphics cards with solely a PCI slot. You have to return it, or if you opened it, sell it on ebay.

Thanks for the help. Or lack there of. No offense.

After a few hours of reading and re-reading and a ton of searching I decided to take a chance and I do have a PCI-E slot.

I installed it and everything is working.

Thanks for the help anyway.

(I hope I don't sound like a jerk I don't mean it to be if I am.)

None taken. I checked Circuit City or Compusa (can't remember) and it says you only had 2 PCI slots. I don't have your computer so I can't take it apart and tell you for sure.
