I got my ticket confirmed for a round trip from LA to Bangkok to Hong Kong to Tokyo back to LA for $1200!

I'll be spending roughly 3 weeks in each country with my girlfriend and I'm so stoked.

But uh... i am seriously low on dough, not low enough to keep me from eyeing a DS, but low enough.

Any CAGs know of cheap places to sleep in Japan? I'm not worried about Thailand or China where everything is pretty damn cheap, but MAN is Japan expensive!

Anyone know of students, family members or people who are used to opening up their houses to travelers?

anyone that can hook me up will get hooked up when i get back from Japan (maybe split the cost of an import if I buy it there and ship it to you when i get home)

cheers!

oh but that's why the question was asked!

gotta know where i'll be sleeping.

worse comes to worse and we'll be sleeping on beaches :O

Man, Bangkok is a prostitute bonanza. I'm going there for colllege credit in addition to China and (possibly) Japan as well. I'l keep an eye on this thread for ideas.

Cheapest would be a youth hostel. There is a website for all of them in japan but I don't remember what it is. Google can help you with that. Hostel will be your cheapest option by far.

Second best IMHO would be Love Hotel's. The only catch - you can't check in to most of them until 10:00pm and you have to be out by 10:00am or so. Any sooner or later and you are paying the hourly rate. The prices will range from about 7000-12000 yen for a decent one. There is a nice bunch of them near Shibuya station that are reasonably priced, easy to find, close to other stuff to do, and near a station.

Next up, you can check the web and find some low end business hotel's. They can be found for decently cheap (around 7000 or so at the low end). They are generally crappy though. And for the same price, you can stay at a love hotel which will have a talking toilet, plasma tv, karaoke machine, ps2/xbox, dildo vending machine, etc.

Short of that, you will end up paying big bucks. Once you get outside of Tokyo, the prices aren't too bad and I would recommend just looking on the web for some business hotel. I've stayed in some really nice ones in various cities (Hiroshima, Nagasaki, Kyoto, Kobe) for under 10000 yen/night and they usually include a free breakfast as well (if you don't mind runny scrambled eggs and boiled hotdogs).

thanks for the info!

i think i'll just show up at Cheapy's new place and demand he honor me being a cheapass, and let me stay with him :D
