Grand Theft Auto IV: The Ballad of Gay Tony - Gen. Discussion & Info (Fall/1600 Pts)

Finished the story. While I liked the storyline and the core gameplay more than TLAD, the biggest letdown for me was the final mission. TLAD's final mission was epic, but this one fell a little flat and was very easy.

I definitely like the Luis character and I liked the way they tied everything in together to TLAD and the main Niko storyline, but I also feel they cut some corners with the story this time around as there were quite a few loose ends. It didn't have that same oomph that Niko and TLAD did by the time they wrapped up. However, Yusuf may be the funniest SOB in a GTA game ever (aside from OG Loc and Roman lol) and Mori is easily the most annoying.

Overall, its worth it espc if you're a GTA fan.

The chopper missions are abundant, but none of them annoyed me as much as "Sexy Time", which is the first chopper mission.

That all being said, I'm ready to put GTA IV to rest. I loved it and the two episodes are cornerstones for DLC and whats possible in terms of lengthening a game out.

GTA IV: A
TLAD: A
TBOGT: A-. Too many plotholes and not enough cohesion + the final mission doesnt feel like a final mission.
What about the Italians? Luis offs that guy in the club when he is there with Rocco telling Luis to kill Tony, then its all the Russians and its over. What happened to Evan? I know he was murdered, but what happened? What about Luis' mom and Armando/Henrique? Seems to me it was rushed in places or not thorough in tying up loose ends properly.

PS: Be sure to watch the end credits.

I forgot to watch them when I completed the game.
That's when they tell you about the next one isn't it?
I will have to play the last mission again after I play TLAD.

The 7th Number if you played GTA IV you should've known that
Brucie is gay but tries to cover it up which Niko catches onto but this time they had him show his feelings with Luis by trying to kiss him.

As for the ending
I think the Mob leaves you alone for the fact you took on the Russians and took them out so they figure its a waste to take you on after people more power couldn't stop you.

Finished last night and I loved it...can't wait to replay the missions and do some more club management ;).

Also, for all who will be trying to go for the achievements...the 100% (and 80%) completion requirements for the missions are cumulative..which means you can play it once for only headshots, play it again for the time, etc. This makes the replay value seem much better for me...I could see an incredible amount of frustration building by having to do all the req's for 100% in one go.

YES, I can't believe she jumped. And it was a nasty landing.

Evan was killed during the mission where you try to sell the diamonds and the lost get involved. I believe in TLAD you chase the limos and kill evan. Maybe it was niko, i dont really remember.

Honestly i dont think the credits show whats next... it does show
Packie getting out of a car and going into the air port. Then the last scene is a plane taking off. Some say this means packie would be the next main character (i hope not), but it coould of been just a way to say this is it for Liberty City, and we are flying out of here to somewhere else. Packie does talk about going back to ireland. Maybe he finally decided to go, that doesnt mean next GTA is in ireland lol.

Aww man we need to get every mission 80% or higher to complete 100%?

Oh yeah?! That's really nice to hear and will be more enjoyable for playing the missions over again. Some of those requirements are crazy and yea it would be a pain in the ass to miss one.

I beat the game last night and enjoyed the ending although I had a hard time with
the Russians in the streets at first (I didn't know there was going to be a motorcycle drive by which cut me down during the mission.

One thing I hate is whenever you retry a mission you loose your body armor and the mission is even harder if you have to struggle with it to start with.

I look forward to getting all the base jumping done, it was difficult at first, and doing 25 gang wars eventually. I'll prob go online now though.

I'm confused about accuracy for the base jumping. I did the one where you have to ride a motorbike off a roof and land on the moving boat, I landed right on that sucker, said "Alright!" out loud, and it said "Accuracy : 10%". My joy quickly turned to Epic Fail. Do you have to land right in the freakin' driver's seat or something?

Also, I was called to the gay club where I had to stop paparazzi from getting photos of a closeted rapper. I didn't know what I was supposed to do, and it just said "The paparazzi got their shot", and that was that, I didn't get the chance to do it again. Does this affect the game later on?

My bad..should have rephrased that. I don't know anything about getting 100% completion (although I did 25 gang wars..and then it changed to 25/50...:cold:), I was speaking about the mission scores. So to get a 80 or 100% mission score..those req's are cumulative. Sometimes you'll see a 'NR' next to one of the requirements too, that means a new personal record in that mission.

Dino - the base jumping has you sometimes landing on a bullseye - I think your accuracy is based on the distance landed to the center of the bullseye.

Finished watching G4's Xplay's Review and I totally did not notice the mid section checkpoints that you acquire so you don't have to start all over again. I think I noticed it once and was like yes, bout time but now that I think about it I am really glad they had that with Gay Tony.

Man drug wars can be some complete BS sometimes. I just picked up a stash and a car blows up and i die. Once they shot my car for like 4 seconds and it goes on fire. If you arent in a car and people are shooting you, your dead. I know some are really easy, but some can just be BS. Then the worst thing is when you die, the stupid hospital takes your bullet proof vest away for some stupid reason. Then i have to call my friend, get another one, all before going back to the drug wars icon. Man i cant wait to get this shit over with.

Wow, i was doing another one and my car just explodes, wasnt even on fire.

Just got BoGT.. please tell me I'm not the only one that noticed there was a black 360 elite in Luis' apartment standing vertically displaying 3 red lights

Haha that's rich, I did not notice that. I did notice his action figure next to the TV though, Brown Streak! lol

I finished GTA IV and loved it, but I haven't played the DLC. I'm thinking about going to TRU to get the Episodes disc today.

Quick question- does either TLatD or TBoGT have any form of that "social" aspect, where you had other characters constantly calling you, wanting you to go to a show or something with them? That was really the only part of GTA IV that I didn't like. Even when I figured out you could say yes, then call them back and blow them off without penalty, it was still a huge pain in the ass.

Luckily it is in there but it isn't as important and doesn't happen nearly as often in GTAIV.

It exists in both of the episodes, but its not detrimental at all to ignore/tell them you're busy.

I dont quite remember TLAD that much as I played it back when it was released, but Gay Tony, theres only one set of people who call you wanting to hang out, and they're not in the story long enough for it to make a difference, other than one guy, but even he is not in the story after a bit unless you call him for his specific help. I got literally 2 calls about hanging out and both times I was on my way to a mission and told them I was busy.
Lol its so hard to answer a phone call and then cancel later, all virtually.
No, obviously it wasn't a difficult thing to do, but it got annoying. If it didn't happen so often, it might not have bothered me at all. It was just one little part of the game I would have preferred they left out.

Thanks very much for the answers, cdeener and archibishopthedoge.

Anyway, I picked up Episodes today. Looking forward to playing it..... as soon as I finish Brutal Legend, Uncharted 2, and Modern Warfare 2 SP.

Make sure you play The lost and damned first. ;)

TBOGT has spoilers in it for TLADs story.

I'm playing through GTA IV now - this is my first GTA game. Crazy, eh? The game is way more fun then I expected. I know long time GTA players were disappointed with it somewhat, but as a newcomer, this game is a blast. I've got no real complaints so far, other then everyone looking like a zombie. Wish they could make more realistic looking humans. Oh well.

I've got a long way to go yet, but I will definitely pick up the expansions when I'm done, or I may go to TRU to pick up the Episodes disc now with the $10 gift card as that seems a good deal. Not sure yet - I play games slowly, so by the time I'm done maybe there may be a better deal.

Does anyone know if the episodes can be installed as DLC for GTA IV, or do you have to have the Episodes disc to play them?

I have the disk and it states on the back that GTA4 is not required to play; I am not sure of the XBL DLC though.

GTAIV game is required for the DLC, but not for the Episodes disk.

Okay; how did you guys with 1500 score the Auf Weidersehen Petrovic? I still need this one and it's a dick >.

I think he was asking if they COULD be installed from the disc version, so that you get the additional music from them in the base game. I was kind of wondering that myself, but since I already have TLAD as DLC I'll probably pick up Tony as DLC as well. Shame I'll miss out on the 80s radio station. Plus having the additional music available in base GTA4 is kind of nice.

ANyone get this from amazon? I just got a 5$ promotion code for buying it. I dont remember the promotion. I thought if there was one it would be 10 back like the others.
