Great classic PC games under $5 at shop.com

I apologize in advance if this isn't the right place to post this(I'm new here)

In a desperate attempt to find a decent copy of Freespace 2, I stumbled upon NothingButSoftware.com via shop.com, and found a bunch of amazing stuff circa late 90's at incredibly cheap prices floating in a sea of "edutainment" garbage. The interesting thing is, the prices dropped even further after I made my purchase so I don't know how long these will be around. My shipment came today, they're all in brand new condition, most of them were jewel cases, some were just plastic sealed pack-ins:

Fallout 1 & 2 Bundle - $3.06
Cheap ass link

Giants - Citizen Kabuto - $1.74
Cheap ass link

Planescape: Torment - $2.90
Cheap ass link

Neverwinter Nights - $4.50

Homeworld - $2.83

Descent: Freespace / Silent Threat Bundle - $0.94

These are just some of the games I found, more of them can be found here if you're up for some digging:

Still can't find Freespace 2, though.

Nice find, a lot of great PC classics in that list.

Edit-Make sure to buy a lot at once, though, shipping is an absolute killer.

I did. I bought the equivalent of 14 games for about $23, shipping was almost $10. However, I ordered this Monday, and it arrived today, which I found shockingly sweet, so I'm happy.

Man, those are some good deals. Picked up 4 classics, which I've been wanting for quite a while now, for 20 bucks. Sweet.

Don't forget, if you buy something from them, search for a CareCode and enter it. It looks like they give back a percentage of the purchase price to causes. Every bit helps. That's a pretty neat feature.
[Look below the 'Add to Cart' button, click CareCode Donation, then search for a CareCode.] I personally donate to North Shore Animal League, 'the largest no-kill animal adoption and rescue organization in the world." Their code is Sixpence.

Definitely one of mine. Actually, I purchased this as an extra copy to give away as a present. I spent almost all of last year looking for it, I finally found it on an amazon marketplace for just over $20. Looking back I don't regret that buy, its well worth more than $20.

All right - Freedom: First Resistance for $2.06! Finally, I can blow up my monitor, just like OMM, and dirt-cheap!

:D

Any idea if these are retail boxed games or jewel case only or what? Can't seem to tell. Regardless, thanks OP for the pointer. Ahhh, nostalgia gaming...

Probably jewel case only. I ordered Planescape from GoGamer.com and it was JCO.

It varies. Some are boxed, some are jewel cases, some are just sealed envelopes w/ manuals, but all of them are new. In fact alot of them come bundled with stuff not advertised. My copy of Giants came bundled with a game called Evolva, Planescape: Torment came bundled with something called Soulbringer. I've never heard of these games, but I suppose the more the merrier.....

Just FYI, NothingButSoftware has a store on Amazon that has several titles for cheaper than they are on Shop.com.

I got Heroes of Might and Magic 3 Complete for a paltry $12.63 as compared to the ~$30 they want for it through Shop.com.
Still can't find Freespace 2, though.
I saw posted on another deals site the following webpage for liberated (i.e. free games).

It looks legit, but you can check for yourself. Bottom line is they have FreeSpace 2 listed as one of the downloads.

Thought that would help ya out.

http://liberatedgames.com/gamelisting.php

BTW, I did not check this out but after closer scrutiny is says it has the source file available for download as well as a demo. Does this help?
For the OP, just came accross this site today:
http://liberatedgames.com/gamelisting.php
It's a bunch of classic PC games that have been open sourced. Freespace 2 is on the list. I didn't look into any of the details, whether they have binary build that you can just download & play but might be worth looking into.
Thx, I do already know this though. The problem is they've only released the source code and I'm too lazy/inept to actually find out how to make that downloadable source code work as a playable game.

Until I can work on my programming skills, I'm stuck looking for an actual hard copy retail version of the game. Before Interplay shutdown their website, which was shortly before the company was shut down, they were selling anniversary editions of Freespace 2 for $50.00. Been kickin myself in the head for not picking it up then.

I do appreciate the help, however.

I could spend entirely too much money buying a bunch of those.

And anyone who doesn't have Majesty really should get it. It's one of my favorite games of all time. Really unique and a blast to play. Sort of imagine Dungeon Keeper except for the good guys.

OP, you should try downloading Freespace 2 at Home of the Underdogs:
http://www.the-underdogs.org/game.php?id=4150
It should be in a playable form, everything I've downloaded from them in the past has been.

Oh, and just as a little side note, I bought a used copy of Giants today, so I now have every game that was in the OP's original list of deals. :D

Anyone who doesn't buy Heroes of Might and Magic 3 Complete for $13 is utterly insane. That's quite possibly the best $13 you'll ever spend on a computer game.

Picked up Baldur's Gate and Giants. I held off on Homeworld and others, because the shipping costs are ridiculous for this place. Probably gonna browse the selection once I finish those games and Fallout/Fallout 2. So I've got a few solid months of games to play, it looks like :D

Was that $13 after shipping on Amazon, Ebonstone? It might be kinda tempting since I've never bought a HoMM game, but I've also got Age of Wonders Shadow Magic, Rome Total War, and Dawn of War. Each excellent strategy games. I'm just not sure if HoMM 3 would be able to compete.

Shipping's bad from the place ($5 starting, I think) but the blow can be weakened somewhat if you order more than one thing at once.

Still, $18 is hard to scoff at for HOMM3 Complete. I quite frankly think HOMM3 is better than Shadow Magic, and honestly I can't compare it to Rome Total War or Dawn of War because they're both RTSes and HOMM3 is a turn-based game.

If you've never played a Heroes game, you owe it to yourself to pick this up. Sure, the graphics are getting a little long in tooth, but damn, what a game.

Got my games yesterday (see previous post). Fast turn around for having placed the order late Fri. p.m.

Also, even though I ordered the single version of Planescape and the single version of Sacrifice, got the dual jewel editions of both!

Nothingbutsoftware gets a big thumbs up!

Has anyone orderd the single copies of fallout 1 or 2, not the dual pack? I just want to know if they're the original, large boxed ones that comes with the manual. Kind of doubt it though. I might pick up planescape and a few others though, excellent deals!

Agreed. At the very least it's the best CRPG ever.
Okay, I'll be the first to just come right out and say it:

Planescape Torment

Best. Game. Ever.
I was very please to find that Giants Citizen Kabuto came complete in the original large box. It made the purchase a lot more worthwhile. Baldur's gate was case only, but for 2 bucks, it's all good.

Wow. I don't think I've ever purchased so many games for so little money. I also don't think I've ever had a shipping charge that is greater than my item charge.

Excellent find, my friend.
