Thanks to Thrakker for kindly giving me a spare copy of Kick Ass Commandos!

I've played it for about 30 minutes and am glad to say that it's exactly what I'd hoped it would be. It has the feel of one of the Devolver retro games; that is to say it has a level of polish and detail that puts it squarely above other similar games. So often it seems that developers of these types of games are leaning heavily on the nostalgia of the 8/16 bit era, but lack the talent to make a fun and playable game. I am happy to say that is not the case here.

It's a very straightforward game. There don't seem to be any RPG elements that are so popular, such as experience points, skills, etc. It's old school arcade game: see it, shoot it, the end. Health and weapon upgrades come in the form of pickups. There is no confusion about where to go: you are shown your objective at the beginning of the round and then the battlefield scrolls backwards to your starting position. The levels unlock in a branching fashion, giving you some choice in how you progress.

Best of all is the gore, and there's plenty of it. That, combined with the overhead view makes you think of Hotline Miami. In fact, it's sort of a mashup of that game, and Rambo/Gain Ground.

It's in Early Access and there are already 18 levels. Based on the incomplete menu, I think it's reasonable to expect that number to triple. All in all, it's a good game for when you're in the mood for some simple mayhem. Seeing it in a Groupees bundle is quite a surprise. Check it out.

How often do they actually have halfway decent games in bundles that are $10+? Tempted to use a coin on the Men of War $12.50 tier. Things that activate on steam I probably won't play > smut I probably won't play.

Yeah, that was my reasoning before liquidating my Groupee's portfolio. Men of War 2 and it's DLC hasn't been that cheap yet either.

 
The Poopees strategy is finally revealed. Bundle the worst shit possible for a year or two so that when they finally release an overpriced Men of War bundle it looks fucking amazing in comparison.

Cyanic mentioned this has 37 comics, some are "iconic game characters" so this may include Sonic or Mega Man stuff. The $8 preorder covers all tiers (something like three tiers) so if you like comics this is a good bundle.
