Don't know if this is news or a deal, but I was going to get it anyway, but this makes it easier to plan on getting now...

I think Haze could be awesome...waiting for reviews to decide if its rental or purchase material. If it sounds pretty good, I won't bother with Game Stop...

Gamestop must expect some interest in the title.

This allows Gamestop to invest almost no money on stocking new (or near new) copies of the game, so they can push reservations. Your essentially renting the game, which they will then buy back from you, and then Gamestop will sell and rebuy the game -- 10 times according to their business model. If they get your game back quickly, they can resell it as used for $2 to $4 off new list price, at least 6 times while demand for the title is high in the first 6 months or so.

This sucks for the developer and publisher.

Don't forget the interest they can build up with all that money sitting there.

This is why I buy used. $55 games and can return within 7 days for full refund or store credit for any reason. Of course you have to wait until a used copy is available, but that's usually only a few days after release.

I don't know... It doesn't seem that Gamestop could be doing this without approval from the publisher.

Also, imagine how many people are going to buy this for the deal (people who would have never thought of buying it) and end up hanging onto the game because it rules OR trying to return it on day 8 and end up stuck with it.

This deal is going to hurt sales of Haze overall = bad for developer & PS3. Also, don't you think Gamestop will basically carry 0 new copies of the game after a week or two? They'll have all these used copies to sell, why would they need to carry any new copies! Thus, if Gamestop makes this deal commonplace you'll see no new games at Gamestop & more loads of used games. Of course the used games might be in better condition, but then again if they're bought/traded more often then they might not. Bad for gamers, developers, publishers, console manufacturers, great for Gamestop, meh for gamers.
Yes... how surprising that those stores and those policies are no longer around. It is almost as if what you did contributed to their demise.
Yeah, the abusers really killed everything good off here in the United States. If you CAN do something for a particular reason, there'll be people around to abuse the policy to its fullest.
I LOL'd. Should have done this for:

- Mass Effect
- Assassin's Creed

Hell, Kane & Lynch was more fun & worth the $38 new I spent than both of these flops combined.
Uhh...ha ha?
Its not that odd. If you think about it, they get the game back AND they get to sell it as used.

They'll have a bunch of used copies of a "new" (potentially) hit game, and they can sell just below the new price and make lots of profit.
Your forgetting all but one important factor. Their initial investment. They don't exactly get all these games for free now do they? They pay, what, $55 for a new copy? You return Haze during this promo and they are out $5 and now have a used copy to sell. So they are out $5 on the new copy and can only sell the used one for $55. They get their initial investment back on the used copy but are still out the $5 for you returning the game. They would have to resell each copy twice to make a profit.

Then again, maybe I'm looking at it wrong.

What you are missing is that they still have your cash and you are stuck with store credit no matter what happens. Let's say a bunch of people forget to return it within 7 days (which they will, people tell themselves they will come back and then they forget or don't feel like dealing with it), then they've gotten a bunch of sales they would not have. Another percentage will lose or forget about the store credit they get back = more dollars for Gamestop. It's like a rebate, it only takes a small percentage of people doing one of the two above scenarios to make it highly profitable when you are doing it on a scale of tens or hundreds of thousands.
It must REALLY suck.
I dunno - they'd lose their ass if this were the case. It would be more intelligent to do this with a game people would want to hang onto instead of sell - like CoD4 or SSBB.

They want money, not gamers' goodwill - so if they do this, it would be with a game they don't think you'll bring back in a week, and one that they want to entice you to buy at *their* store, and not CC/BB/WM/etc.

That said, I'll wait for 8-12 weeks after release, as some people will inevitably return it, and with any luck, it can be had for $30 or less by then.
I thought this was the deal with all games??? I know I have had the GS/EB guys tell me I can return it within a week if I don't like it or 30 days if it doesn't work. Am I mistaken?
that's only on used games. new games can only be returned within 30 days only if it doesn't work.
