Picked up Disgaea 3 and MGS4 for ~$67 after tax with the coupon and Edge card. :) Personally I love used PS3 games because Blu-Ray disks are so hard to damage at all - once again after a quick cleaning to get all the nasty finger-prints off the data side, the disks are essentially in mint condition. :D

thanks for the coupon. just picked up Dead Space for 38.49. and not sure if this applies to all GS but i used trade in credit i had saved up and i wasn't charged tax.
 
Last night, i checked the inventory online and my closest store didn't have a used copy of LBP. Checked again today... Bingo! Quickly drove up there and picked it up.

I recall GS having a 25% coupon about a month ago for either used PS3 or 360. I also remember another for any used game on any system but can't remember the amount. I think either 20 or 25% I'm sure they'lll come around in the cycle. That was around the same time as the B2G1F. What is that about a 10 day probation trade-in on new games?
 
1 other advantage to this coupon is if you have 5-6 games you want, you can usually get a GS employee to ring up 2 transactions if you have 2 different offers...so you could go to 1 GS, and buy 3 PS3 games with this coupon, and then 3 more games on any system with Cellfire
 
When I saw the 20% for this week I thought those who railed against me would own up and maybe apologize, but all I see is people complaining about the % decrease and preemptively acting negatively/hostile towards my coming response. I am not going to gloat over this, I merely want to say that I tried to tell you this would happen and I tried to prevent it by not using the 20% coupons and telling others not to. I wasn't in this for trying to one up people, I was in it to prevent the lowered %. You did hear this warning from me first so I do hope that people will take what I have to say more seriously instead of trying to argue so much with me.
 
Alright got CoD:WaW, I think I am set for the rest of the year!

So I have CoD for my MP shooter, Fallout 3 for my SP game, and LBP for whatever, co-op etc w/ my GF. excellent =) My next anticipated game is probably Killzone 2 and that's not until February! Time to save money for the holidays.
 
Passed on Resistance 2 (They had it, but my best friend doesn't have it yet, and I don't want to play it by myself.)

Picked up Madden 07 for $3.99
and NBA 2K8 (I like it better than 2k9) for $11.99

I had been eyeing Madden 07 for... well I guess 2 years now. And NBA 2k8 was 19.99 until today when it dropped to 14.99 ($11.99 with the coupon.)

17 Bucks with tax for two solid PS3 games.

Not bad.
 
My Gamestop has Folklore in stock at a good price... I rented that game from my college library and absolutely fell in love with it. Brilliant game.
 
Is there a way to check used availability if the "used" option for a game isn't listed on the Gamestop site?

I tried clicking on the "show backordered product" button but that didn't help.

I'm trying to see if anyone around me has a used Mirror's Edge.

Go to, or call, 1 GS, and, if they don't have it, ask them if they're willing to check their computer to see if any of the other stores in the area have it.

good luck with that. the gamestops around me are no help what so ever over the phone. they are so dismissive like they cant be bothered. i called and asked for a used copy of resistance 2 and they said no and hung up so fast i couldnt get another word in. so i called back and said that the online tracker said they had one so they check and they said oh yeah we have one.

Yeah, going in person is definitely more likely to get results, but if there isn't one really close, calling sometimes works.

I tried out Naruto Ultimate Storm. I liked the style (to me it was really close to Naruto Xbox, which was fine by me. Yes a little bit slicker) but I just could not get past the absence of actual TV series soundtrack. That is one of the things that made the TV series for me and that just really takes away from the game for me which is to bad because I really wanted to like it.

One note was cashier was asking for complete email on coupon. He turned around and asked the manager and manager said that doesnt take effect till after new year please take care of customer. So i see some changes coming with these printed out coupons unless this is a district thing.

Technically, if you use the cellfire and happen to find those 3 games, it'll be a tiny bit cheaper than B2G1 free.
 
I went to one Gamestop and used teh coupon and got Little Big Planet and Resistance 2. I went to another Gamestop that happened to be having a buy 2 get 1 free sale. I returned LBP and R2 and rebought them with Far Cry 2 (360) which I got for free. Buy 2 get 1 free > 20% off coupon.
 
All I managed to get right now are Disgaea 3 and Stranglehold Collector's Edition. I also wanted to get BioShock, but the two stores near me that had a copy both didn't have the slipcover with it. Is gamestop supposed to sell it like that, or do they have the cover behind the register?

What you see is what you get. They only require the disc for trade-ins and then they'll sell it in a generic case/sleeve. I've given them a disc in a paper sleeve a couple times and they don't bat an eye.
 
Stupid Gamestop employees...A gamestop near me had a used Little Big Planet....I wanted to buy it but they said it was on hold.....I am sure whatever A-Hole employee has it supposedly on hold won't buy it for a few days....DAMN!!! Well my hunt begins again so I can use this 20% coupon. Grrrrrr....

So no one is going to reply to J7's comment huh? Hopefully people sent him PM's and didn't just try and ignore what he wrote, or worse yet just use the ignore feature all together. CAG is a cool community for the most part, but at other times it can be quite sickening. J7 I'm pretty sure that if this week's coupon was a 25% off of whatever, you would have seen many post calling you out for being a GS hating, tin foil hat wearing, nut job.

I too thought that I would see some people own up to their comments or actually say "hey maybe those guys were right, kind of sucks to see the coupon %% number drop off." But nope it's like people are more concerned about getting their noses rubbed in something than about actually fixing it, or admitting that something might be wrong. I mean in the face of jp posting almost an entire year's worth of the coupon trends, this week's coupon speaks pretty loudly.

Other than jp, who continues to impress me, :applause: I'm kind of shocked at this thread overall. I know that I don't have an I told you so attitude, as I said numerous times that I really hoped that I was wrong on the trend; and I still hope that I'm wrong. To be perfectly honest though, I'm not sure that there was anything that we really could have done about it, would CAG boycotting GS these past couple of weeks have worked? Who knows if it would have really made a difference... Either way, I don't think its something that we could've made happen; call me faithless, but I just don't see the honor and comradery among CAG's as being that strong.

I still hope that I'm wrong and that we will see the return of the extra 5%, but if not, life goes on, and that 5% will be honored along with the other heroes of CAG deals past. $5 CC sale, the $10 and $5 Target coupons, etc...

To everyone saying that 5% isn't a lot so who cares! Think of how many games you've bought in the past 2-3 months, add up the money you spent, and imagine giving yourself 5% of that back to yourself. I don't know about you, but I like extra money in my pocket.

Since I've been using the coupons regularly I bring in a lot of extras to hand out to different people in the stores. I spread the coupon around even more. Does that make me more responsible for this? You could say that, but I was just passing around the deals while they were available. I would even bring them in when I wouldn't use it for like the Wii, just in case someone needed them. If that makes me less a CAG so be it. If this impacted anyone's ability to use an extra 5% off, which I admit adds up, I don't apologize because I was able to get my games for cheap while they were still in near mint/mint condition and help kids and their parents get a game that they might not have had the money for. Seeing a smile on a kid's face because he can now get that Spider-man or Pokemon game he wanted is great. Parent's appreciate it too.

Trying to get any kind of boycott off the ground would have been fruitless because even if CAGs didn't use the coupons you would have the regular email subscribers, SD/FW people going still and others that get the coupons on other deal websites. Nature of the world, one group steps down another is more than willing to fill the void.

I'm still not ready to believe that this switch is directly related to people using the 20% coupons as much as the 25%. We just don't have all the data to say this is related to excessive use of the 20% coupons. I think that GameStop as a company are trying to protect the profits in an economic downturn. Could I be wrong? Most definitely and I'm ready to admit so. I'm human, I can be mistaken from time to time.

There is definitely A LOT more credence to what J7 and jigga have been saying. One round of coupons doesn't prove the point but does cause a definite sign for concern. It is some solid evidence of what you two have been saying though and not just speculation from both sides. An average over the next 6 months will be a better showing if it is a trend or not in my mind. One round of a reduced percentage doesn't say it conclusively but definitely shows signs of a coming fall of the percentages. It will definitely suck if that becomes the norm.

Also jigga, I appreciate the little applause dude but I'm not really sure if I deserve it. There have been times when I've gotten a little heated in these weekly discussions myself. I'm definitely not above it but I do try to keep it from getting personal. My earlier posts in this thread were more of me being REALLY tired. Just got back in from training and working on my third move in three years. Really gets annoying moving that much.

Indeed. A boycott would do absolute jack shit, because GS would not feel it. In reality, they would probably be better off. Despite our pride, CAG does not constitute the whole of the consumer world, and most CAGs don't get drawn in by the coupon and buy something else. We go in, use the coupon, and that's it. GS doesn't make a lot of money when they deal with us, certainly not nearly as much as when they deal with the average consumer.

Picked up a "like new" copy of LBP for $38.49 and Assassin's Creed for $17.49. Not bad... especially since the credit came from about $12 worth of flipped HWV games:D

yeah theres no way its cheaper to use the cellfire coupon on 3 games as opposed to the buy 2 get 1 free with the buy 2 get 1 free i pay about 35 dollars a piece for each game with the cellfire its around 38 and some change
 
Yeah, if you're buying three $55 used games, B2G1 is much better. It was slightly better when we were dealing with 25% off coupons. Now, it's clearly better.

Doing the math for myself, buying two $55 + 7% tax (-10% EDGE) tax comes out to around 106.xx and buying three $55 - 30% (cellfire +edge) = 123.xx so about $17. And you can save more if you're not getting three games all at $55. Beats waiting AND you don't have to HOPE you can find all three at a single gamestop but rather, get them at different times. I know people do, but I've never purchased 3 games at a time to play unless I was flipping at least one. Who wants a backlog anyway haha

A boycott may have been fruitless, but in my mind even if we got some people that would be something good. Heck, I would've been happy with even a handful of people for principle alone. While they get many customers besides CAGs I do think that a large portion of purchases made, especially with the coupons, are made by CAGs. As CAGs buy many games when these coupons hit, I'm seeing many who purchased 3 games each in this thread.

The switch to 20% may not be solely from people using the previous 20%'s in mass, but it probably played a role in my opinion. I also think this still may not become a trend and that 25% might return, as the economy and supply/demand start to change in the future. Even a rare 30% is possible depending on all the factors.

I guess I can be happy that bigdaddybruce44 did not decide to argue with me again. I know you say GS does not make money off CAGs on purchases other than when we use the coupons when we go in. To me, that would also contribute to GS not wanting us to get 25% since we are only making coupon purchases.
