WHEN REPORTING TRADE-IN VALUES PLEASE POST BASE VALUES & SYSTEM IT IS FOR.

First post contains promo information & useful information and frequently asked questions. Second post has the values for games/hardware for Microsoft devices. Third post has the values for games/hardware for Nintendo consoles and the fourth post has the values for Nintendo handhelds. Fifth post has the values for games/hardware for Sony consoles and the sixth post has the values for Sony handhelds.

These trade-in values are really low!
While that may be true, if you combine the games with the right promotion they can work to your advantage. There are knowledgeable people in this thread that are normally willing to help.

Is there any way to look at what the previous values reported on a game?
You can search through this thread and previous ones to see what a game has been reported in the past. With the TIV Tracker you can sort by date and then go through the list of past updated values through that as well. Can I trade-in sealed games?
No. You might come across the rare GameStop that would let you do it, but they are going to open them anyway.

I don't want to get hassled about the values I post, how can I get the information out there?
If you do not feel comfortable or willing to put the values in the thread you have two options available. You can input them in the TIV tracker or you can send them to me via PM. Either way the database and these lists will be updated. Putting them into the TIV tracker does save me some time later on.

Do trade-ins have to have their original case, insert and manual?
No, however it will be YMMV on if they charge you a refurbish fee for them in that condition. Most GameStops wont charge a fee but there are some that charge for incomplete games.

Will they accept my game if it is really beat up?
YMMV. It really all depends upon the employee you get. Some will charge refurbish fees, some wont, some wont accept the game and others just take them without a second glance.

What are the refurb fees on games?
There appears to be set prices for set value ranges. We aren't 100% certain on the splits just yet. Here is what we have currently:
$0.25-$2 Value: $0.75 Refurb Fee
$2.01-$4 Value: $1 Refurb Fee
$4.01-$7 Value: $2 Refurb Fee
$7.01-$10 Value: $3 Refurb Fee
$10.01 & Higher Value: $4 Refurb Fee
This information isn't guaranteed by any mean and we are still working on nailing it down.


What are the refurb fees on consoles?
They are listed in the hardware TIV section, highlight in red.

I have a Collector's/Limited/Special edition of a game, do I have to trade-in all of the extras?
No, but there are a handful of games that their variations have separate listings at GameStop: Madden 09 Anniversary Edition, Battlefield: Bad Company Gold Edition, and a few others.

Why didn't the percent bonus go for my accessory for a system that was included?
Unless stated otherwise, and they are rarely included, the bonuses never apply to accessories. Except the EDGE card of course.

I traded in a bunch of games for the "Trade X, get $X bonus" promo and it gave me the percentage bonus instead?
I can't give concretes on why this happens. GameStop computers are normally pretty good at giving you the better promo. In the case of a percentage bonus being run at the same time as a "Trade X, get $X" promo, things can get messy. The system appears to only give one promo on games per transaction so if you had a few games that you want to go to the percentage bonus and a stack for the "Trade X, Get $X" it will regularly apply the percentage to all of the games. Your best bet is to do all "Trade X, Get $X" games in one transaction on their own. The GameStop clerk may say that the system will figure it all out, tell them you want a separate transaction anyway. As always, check your receipt before you leave the store.

Can I trade in multiple copies of the same game?
YMMV. The official policy is no, but there are some GameStops that overlook that rule.

What all do I have to trade in for a console trade-in?
Xbox 360: Console Unit, power brick, A/V Cables, Controller (wired/wireless)
Wii: Console Unit, Power Cable, A/V Cables, Wiimote, Nunchuck, Sensor Bar
Playstation 3: Console Unit, Power Cable, A/V Cable, Controller, USB Cable
Playstation 2: Console Unit, Power Cable, A/V Cable, Controller (Must be a DualShock2) *Fat unit requires either back cover or network adapter*
GameCube: Console Unit, Power Cable, A/V Cable, Controller
PSP: Handheld, A/C Adapter

Can I trade in a defective/broken console?
For the most part yes. If it powers on but doesn't play games, they will take the console as a refurb unit and put a refurb fee on the console. The refurb fee on the console will vary on the price of the console so those numbers will change. You are still required to trade in everything required listed in the question directly above. They will not, however, take RROD 360 consoles. There may be stores that still do it, but official policy is to not take them in.

What is the difference between PowerUp Rewards and PowerUp Rewards Pro?
The basic card is free and only allows you to acrew points when spending money. The Pro card costs $14.99 and is basically the same as the previous EDGE program.

How much does a PowerUp Rewards Pro subscription cost?
It costs $14.99 and is good for a year. It also comes with a 1-year subscription to Game Informer magazine.

What bonuses come with having an PowerUp Rewards Pro card?
You will get an extra 10% trade-in credit on the base value of the game, extra 10% off the purchase of pre-owned games and 10% off new strategy guides.

Does the Power Up Rewards Card give me a bonus on hardware trade-ins?
No. You will only get the bonus for games and accessories.

What if I want cash instead of credit, what do they deduct?
If you decide that you want cash instead of credit, they will take 20% off the base values and promos will not apply.

Does promo "....." have a minimum trade-in value?
If the promo has a minimum trade-in value requirement, it will be listed in the promo. If it isn't there, then there is no limit. However, as with all trades, they are subject to manager approval so the manager could have setup his own little rule-set requiring a minimum of whatever.

I used a Power Trade promo for a pre-order, can I cancel that pre-order and get the credit or move it to another game I want?
Yes on both accounts. However, if you do a bunch of the power trades and just straight drop the pre-order you could create some ill-will between yourself and the employees you cancel on. However, if you look at the wordings on promos, they can remove the bonus trade-in value if they decide to.

I just tried to use a promo that has a select list of games eligible, but they say my game isn't eligible anymore, what gives?
Basically they have the right to change the eligible games at any time. They tend to update these frequently so as to lock out any easy/cheap games. It's best to check the eligible list the day of your trade.

Can I stack two different trade-in promos?
No. The only thing that will stack with trade-ins is your EDGE card. Some will report success, but this requires a manual override and is very YMMV.

If I pay for an item using all credit on my card, do I have to pay sales tax?
This varies depending upon the state you live in.

If I buy a used copy of a game that requires an online pass for multiplayer, will it come with an online pass?
If you purchase a used title published by either Sony or WB you get an online pass from GS on your receipt. That's also why the used copies are $55 instead of $48 when the MSRP is $60.
No GS issued passes of games published by EA, THQ, etc. On those titles you're totally dependent on the previous owner not using the code.

My state doesn't charge sales tax on purchases made by credit, why is gamestop.com charging me tax?
It is just the way they have designed their system. The best theory we have seen is that since you are only inputting the number off of the back of the card, it isn't going to pick up the programming from the specially tagged EDGE cards. Some kind of programming that gets input from their system that wont show up when only inputting the number off the back of the card.

Strange question but how did they warn you (at GS and BB)? Was it after the trade or when they scanned your card?
 
lol. im banned at both. i have my wife do my bb flips and my bud do my gs flips.

Bestbuy just goes hmm odd you can't flip anymore, i was like darn, she will do it then.
Bestbuy also sent me a email just now, telling me im silver. so its all good. i still get points from flips too cuz she uses my rz phone #, but banned through id. not by employees tho, they are all cool with me.

Gamestop took the douche approach, im not banned by corporate but the guys at sunset hills just dislike me so much that they won't take my games even if i try to have my girl trade them in. They banned her through association. lol.

Simple, don't walk in with her, and let her try a different hairstyle, make up, clothes, glasses, etc. I bet you cash money that they won't recognize her.

how did you get far cry 3 for 10 bucks already?
 
My Best Buy ban was similar to the one described. I traded in about 1000 PS2 games for 1.60 a piece. I was getting them from GameStop for about $0.76 each. Good profit for very little work. I also did a lot of more lucrative flips but I think the PS2 games did me in.

My Gamestop warning was simply a "we know that you have been going to other stores so you can trade in multiples of the same game." I was like that is bullshit, you don't know anything. So I went to the other store about 20 minutes away in a different town. When I walked in there and tried to make a trade in they told me "You cannot trade this in here because you just traded in a copy at the other store." Then I was like damn that sucks. So I cooled off for quite a while. Today was my first trade in since that debacle.

Signed up for power rewards and paid off MLB 13 ending up with like 25 cents left. Had to go back to Gamestop after Best Buy TIV tanked.
 
Is it weird that I hate trading in games? I have like 70 Xbox games, a lot of them I probably will never play again.

I literally could pull in $4-500 in credit while keeping my 10-15 favorites

How long ago was this? I was under the impression that GS stores couldn't see your trade history.

This was last Spring I would say. I don't know if they can see your trade in history or not but I would have to assume that there is some type of tracking. Otherwise how would they know how much you have "saved" by using your power up rewards card. I assumed that they could 10% bonus for trade in as well as 10% savings for used games.

BTW my current savings was $933.10 when I last signed up for the yearly thing.

If you traded in one store, and head to the other store in 20 minutes, they would know? If so then they got their IT infrastructure built pretty well.

Thanks to those who posted the following values over the past day. Wouldn't have known to trade them otherwise. (SR3 PS3 costs a couple bucks less so I wasn't expecting it to get the same TIV as the 360 version but it does, woot)

I final experienced what everyone has talked about with the whole trying to get you to do trades/ employee's being basically a rat. I found a copy of Oblivion (steelbook) for 11.99 so I picked it up.

Guy:"Oh you have a copy of oblivion; I think you wanted Skyrim it is newer. I will go get that for you"
Me: "Nope I like steelbooks so just this"
Guy: " Oh well if you like this you will love the new Dragon's Dogma game; for only 5.00 you can preorder it"
Me: "Nope just this one please"
Guy: " Oh okay well to get the game for 11.99 you need a power up card otherwise it is 17.99"
Me: "Yea I gave you it *points to card he is holding"
Guy: "Okay, 11.99"
Me: "Money is on the card"
Guy: *sees I have a lot*
Guy:"Would you like to get an Xbox for 99.99?"
Me: "Yea no just my card back and my reciept"

My local one could careless what I trade and usually lets me know about deals as soon as they start. I feel bad for all the people who have to deal with that shit.
 
Anyone know what I can get for a 360 with 1 red ring? My system died the other day and now I need a new one. I figure I'll get screwed in the trade in, but their website says they take in red ring consoles and its still eligible for the bonus, so hopefully its at least $60-70 after the bonus. Thanks.

Oh ok, Thanks guys for the information. I traded a lot last year at BB, with games from my collection and cheap GS games. Gamestop, I built up a lot of credit in the last 48 hours, I didn't want to get a ban all over a small flip.
 
I would say the largest marjority of GameStop bans are done at the District level and not corporate. District Managers typically get notified by some Jr. Detective and the District Manager checks other stores in their area. Of course I've seen a couple people that got tagged by the DM directly because they were working out of the DM's main store. Back a few years ago when I was trading like crazy I saw the DM on a regular basis. The local DM at the time was alright and was alright with my flipping as long as it wasn't ridiculous. He was pretty quick on cutting down on the big flips early too. There was a Batman flip from Best Buy a year or so ago and the local stores shut that down after a day. It was awesome seeing this one guy get super pissed about that. Hilarious.

I don't blame them. They are just blue collar kids who are trying to make a living. GS probably asks them to do this. Asking me if I want to preorder something doesn't take much of my time, and I just smile and say "thanks but no thanks I'm good".

What annoys me is when they lie straight to my face about ongoing promos like somebody just mentioned. This is just an insult to my intelligence.
 
Here's something strange and unexpected.

I traded in a :360: Kingdoms of Alamur this evening. $10 base. A number of posts in this thread report it being $15 as of today.

Great job at ticking off a customer, GS.

Edit: The employee made a mistake by ringing it up as the PS3 version. It didn't specify on my receipt so I didn't catch it until I checked the PUrewards site.

Dragon's Dogma has a pretty good TIV now. I'm not sure if I should trade it in though as I haven't even played it yet but the newer version is coming out soon.

Heres an Idea, Trade it in TOWARD'S the newer one, it's as if you just bought the DLC because it includes the origional as well.

I did ask. I caught it beforehand and decided to do it anyway. It just irks me that GS must have changed the value in the middle of the day.. something I didn't think they did. In my view, makes trips to GS a much greater potential waste of time.

Edit: The employee made a mistake by ringing it up as the PS3 version. It didn't specify on my receipt so I didn't catch it until I checked the PUrewards site.

Haven't traded at gamestop for a while, but the 50% bonus is tempting. Does gamestop reduce your possible credit if you have no case, manual or if the game disc is heavily scratched?

In general no, but some stores will charge a refurb fee for those trades. Depends upon the Store Manager or District Manager's policy. Since all trades are subject to manager approval it's easy for them to do so. The largest portion of stores will not deduct for missing cases/artwork.

Guys just trying to do his job at probably minimum wage. From what you've posted here, you were being more of a DB than he was. At least he has a reason for his actions. You have to keep in mind that everything a GameStop EE does is because they're told to. Some don't care and just let people get away with anything, but others actually want their job and are trying to do it right. Cut the guy some slack, just let him ask some questions, and don't be a jerk next time.
 
So PS3 KoA is only get $10? I wonder why there is such a difference between the 2?

O.k. I am answering myself. Looks like they sell the 360 version for $40 and the PS3 version for $28. That still make me wonder why such a difference. Was there more copies sold for the PS3? Or is the 360 version more popular? Hmmm.

Edit: looks like around me at least they no longer sell the 360 version new but still have new copies of the PS3 version. Must have something to do with being able to jack the price when the new copies are out of stock.

Great thanks, now that you mention it I think I recall a refurb fee of $2 on my receipt when I traded in MW2 a while back. It was blu ray disc and only had a few scratches, so that blows if my local store does that regularly. It's funny though because almost all the 360 games I buy from them are scratched as hell. I bought vanquish last month and there were literally fingerprints ingrained into the disc.

Have to agree. Stores like Gamestop get scored/audit by secret shoppers to see if employees follow protocol. Never got a perfect score when I worked at Microcenter and Barnes & Nobles because I never called the customer by their name if they give me their credit card. Never felt right to me.
