FAQ
These trade-in values are really low!
While that may be true, if you combine the games with the right promotion they can work to your advantage. There are knowledgeable people in this thread that are normally willing to help.

Can I trade-in sealed games?
No. You might come across the rare GameStop that would let you do it, but they are going to open them anyway.

Do trade-ins have to have their original case, insert and manual?
No, however it will be YMMV on if they charge you a refurbish fee for them in that condition. Most GameStops wont charge a fee but there are some that charge for incomplete games.

Will they accept my game if it is really beat up?
YMMV. It really all depends upon the employee you get. Some will charge refurbish fees, some wont, some wont accept the game and others just take them without a second glance.

I have a Collector's/Limited/Special edition of a game, do I have to trade-in all of the extras?
No, but there are a handful of games that their variations have separate listings at GameStop: Madden 09 Anniversary Edition, Battlefield: Bad Company Gold Edition, and a few others.

Can I trade in multiple copies of the same game?
YMMV. The official policy is no, but there are some GameStops that overlook that rule.

What all do I have to trade in for a console trade-in?
Xbox 360: Console Unit, power brick, A/V Cables, Controller (wired/wireless)
Wii: Console Unit, Power Cable, A/V Cables, Wiimote, Nunchuck, Sensor Bar
Playstation 3: Console Unit, Power Cable, A/V Cable, Controller, USB Cable
Playstation 2: Console Unit, Power Cable, A/V Cable, Controller (Must be a DualShock2)
GameCube: Console Unit, Power Cable, A/V Cable, Controller
PSP: Handheld, A/C Adapter
Nintendo DS/DSLite/DSi: Handheld, A/C Adapter, Stylus

Can I trade in a defective/broken console?
For the most part yes. If it powers on but doesn't play games, they will take the console as a refurb unit and cut the trade-in value in half. You are still required to trade in everything required listed in the question directly above.

How much does an EDGE card subscription cost?
It costs $14.99 and is good for a year. It also comes with a 1-year subscription to Game Informer magazine.

What bonuses come with having an EDGE card?
You will get an extra 10% trade-in credit on the base value of the game and an extra 10% off the purchase of used games.

Does the EDGE Card give me a bonus on hardware trade-ins?
No. You will only get the bonus for games and accessories.

What if I want cash instead of credit, what do they deduct?
If you decide that you want cash instead of credit, they will take 20% off the base values and promos will not apply.

Does promo "....." have a minimum trade-in value?
If the promo has a minimum trade-in value requirement, it will be listed in the promo. If it isn't there, then there is no limit. However, as with all trades, they are subject to manager approval so the manager could have setup his own little rule-set requiring a minimum of whatever.

I used a Power Trade promo for a pre-order, can I cancel that pre-order and get the credit or move it to another game I want?
Yes on both accounts. However, if you do a bunch of the power trades and just straight drop the pre-order you could create some ill-will between yourself and the employees you cancel on.

I just tried to use a promo that has a select list of games eligible, but they say my game isn't eligible anymore, what gives?
Basically they have the right to change the eligible games at any time. They tend to update these frequently so as to lock out any easy/cheap games. It's best to check the eligible list the day of your trade.

Can I stack two different trade-in promos?
No. The only thing that will stack with trade-ins is your EDGE card.

If I pay for an item using all credit on my card, do I have to pay sales tax?
This varies depending upon the state you live in.

What states charge sales tax on purchases made with credit and which ones don't?
Charge Sales Tax on Credit Purchases:Arkansas, California, Florida, Maryland, Michigan, Pennsylvania,
Does Not Charge Sales Tax on Credit Purchases:Arizona, Colorado, Illinois, Indiana, Iowa, Kansas, Minnesota, Missouri, New Jersey, New York, North Dakota, Ohio, Oklahoma, Oregon, Texas, Wisconsin, Virginia,

My state doesn't charge sales tax on purchases made by credit, why is gamestop.com charging me tax?
It is just the way they have designed their system. The best theory we have seen is that since you are only inputting the number off of the back of the card, it isn't going to pick up the programming from the specially tagged EDGE cards.

First post contains promo information and the FAQ. Second post has the 360/Wii/PS3 values. Third post has the PS2/GC values. Fourth post has PSP/DS values.

PS3
Heavy Rain holding steady at $25
PS3 Eye down to $6
Optical cable $0.35

Story time! I traded this stuff in and then proceeded to "pick up" my FF13 preorder. I had put down $6.20 in trade credit for some old game a while back. I told the casheir I didnt really want the game so I was returning it or just credit me back on my EDGE card, whatever is easier for you. He messes around with it for a minute, then another girl comes over and messes with it as well. Then she says, the system wont let her put the credit back on EDGE so I will have to give you cash, "is that okay?" "Why yes, yes that will be fine." I say.

I am sure some of you other enterprising CAGs already know about this. Is this some kind of system glitch? Or were these two just retards? (say retard like in The Hangover)

Either way, Taco Bell was on them today! Woohoo, ate like a king for $6.20.

With 50% game bonus, 25% accessories bonus, EDGE 10%, and extra $30 for hardware trade in I ended up with $314.79. I bought myself an Elite and will be waiting for GS to get the new Spring bundle so I can exchange it.

On a side note, when the guy was testing my Xbox, he literally played my Fable II copy on it for a good 15-20 minutes. Every now and then he would look up and giggle because one of those Sony commercials was playing in the background...

Congrats man. Have fun with the 360 :D.
They gave you the 30 dollars on both of them? Weird, thought they wouldn't do that.
I thought this as well. When I was in gamestop the other day I asked the manager if I would get 30 per, or only once. He told me he didnt know, and I would have to bring it in and he would check then. Can the poster confirm that they gave him 30 bonus twice?
I never heard of trade value going up just down...
It's happened regularly in this thread.

I'm thinking LFD2 will go back up to around $22 after the 50% deal, then I'll match that up with a 25%+ pre-order bonus they'll have at the moment and get more than what I'll get now.

Just a heads up to everyone, either Sunday evening or Monday morning I will be switching this thread over to a new one. Try not to let these get too far over 100 but I hate switching threads in the middle of a promo period.
Please tell me you got the Volcano Box.
I get that like an hour or so after eating Taco Bell.
I get that like an hour or so after eating Taco Bell.
That sounds more like something you'd get after hooking up at a bar.

What do you guys have your posts per page at? I have it set at 50 and I'm only on page 55.

Probably a stupid question but does the 50% bonus include console trade ins? or is that a whole different category.

It's still 2800 posts - it's a lot to sort through.

50% bonus is on games.
25% bonus is on accessories (with coupon)
$30 console bonus is with purchase of new hardware.

50% is only for game trade ins. Consoles get +30 extra if traded in towards another one.

base tiv

:psp:
Street fighter alpha 3 max - $3.00
Monster hunter freedom Unite - $4.75
Metal Gear Solid Portable Ops + - $2.50

:360:
The Darkness - $1.00

:ps2:
GTA Vice City - $2.00

:gba:
Legend of Zelda : Link to the Past - $3.25
Mario Golf: Advance Tour - $2.00
Yoshi's Island - $3.00
Super Mario Advance (super mario 2) - $6.50

:gc:
Nintendo Gamecube controller - $5.00
Much appreciated, bro. Going in to acquire FFXIII too. As much as I'd like to be included into the Halo Reach beta, I'd rather take the good TIV while I still can.
Finally got a chance to go check. Good thing I did, because my edge card expires tomorrow.

Halo 3 ODST: $24.75 (Base TIV) / $39.61 (50% + Edge)
Xbox 360 Recharge Battery Pack: $3.00 (Base TIV) / $4.05 (25% + Edge)

Traded in three dying battery packs from 2007 and picked up a new play and charge pack for a few bucks. :D
Did anyone successfully trade in Star Wars Clone Wars for the FFXIII/GoW3 promo?
Succeeded twice, failed once. Luckily I was able to get both preordered for just about $30 each.

Traded in a bunch of accessories (A few from my FF13 LE Bundle too)

Got.....

14 for a Wireless 360 Controller
4.50 for a Live Vision Camera
12 for a 20 Gig Hard Drive
6 for a Wired Headset
5.50 for a Non Official Sony PS3 Bluetooth
6 for a 256 MB Memory Card (360)

After using the 25% coupon, ended up getting about 65$, not bad at all seeing as i never used that stuff
My guess is because they know so many people will trade in their original SFIV's to upgrade to the new one since owning both doesn't seem to really make any sense aside from collecting.
Fair enough. When you put it that way, it makes sense.
I never heard of trade value going up just down...
As jp mentioned, it's happened. There are oddball times when it goes up for no reason, whereas most others it goes up due to a jump in price raising. Mass Effect is a good example.

just a question if we trade the game from the elite spring bundle will It be accepted for the trade to get either god of war 3 or ff13 for $20?

Forza 3 and ODST will net you $65 in total if you trade them in with the 50% bonus plus edge card. So you can even trade them for GOW/FF. You dont need to come up with an extra 20 then
Got.....
6 for a Wired Headset
Damn - never thought about trading those in... I have like 3 of them in a box in the closet :) I ended up with 2 wireless headsets after the EndWar thing at BB and I already had 1, so I have a crapload of wired headsets laying around...

Updated lists and database.
Congrats to jp for his Cheapy Award!
Thanks for that. I was honestly super surprised to have won. Just to make it to the voting stage on two awards was awesome in my mind. Let alone win one.

keep in mind that Gamestop will be aware of this bundle coming out since they will probably be selling it.

If these games are anything like the previous games in 360 bundles, they will be dual packaged...resulting in a lower trade-in value than what you could get for both games individually traded in.
if you trade them in seprete
So that means I need to have separate cases for them :/ in order to have a value.?

In this case though, how would they do the dual package? Both games if I remember correctly require two discs. I mean, they did throw Lost Odyssey all together in a very crappy manner and it was 4 discs.
Anyone know if they accept turtle beach X1s?
for about $6 just like any other wired headset....don't do it.

you dont need cases exactly you could just tell them you want to trade them in seprate by then though the games will drop in price and demand since more people will be geting them
