FAQ
These trade-in values are really low!
While that may be true, if you combine the games with the right promotion they can work to your advantage. There are knowledgeable people in this thread that are normally willing to help.

Can I trade-in sealed games?
No. You might come across the rare GameStop that would let you do it, but they are going to open them anyway.

Do trade-ins have to have their original case, insert and manual?
No, however it will be YMMV on if they charge you a refurbish fee for them in that condition. Most GameStops wont charge a fee but there are some that charge for incomplete games.

Will they accept my game if it is really beat up?
YMMV. It really all depends upon the employee you get. Some will charge refurbish fees, some wont, some wont accept the game and others just take them without a second glance.

I have a Collector's/Limited/Special edition of a game, do I have to trade-in all of the extras?
No, but there are a handful of games that their variations have separate listings at GameStop: Madden 09 Anniversary Edition, Battlefield: Bad Company Gold Edition, and a few others.

Can I trade in multiple copies of the same game?
YMMV. The official policy is no, but there are some GameStops that overlook that rule.

What all do I have to trade in for a console trade-in?
Xbox 360: Console Unit, power brick, A/V Cables, Controller (wired/wireless)
Wii: Console Unit, Power Cable, A/V Cables, Wiimote, Nunchuck, Sensor Bar
Playstation 3: Console Unit, Power Cable, A/V Cable, Controller, USB Cable
Playstation 2: Console Unit, Power Cable, A/V Cable, Controller (Must be a DualShock2)
GameCube: Console Unit, Power Cable, A/V Cable, Controller
PSP: Handheld, A/C Adapter
Nintendo DS/DSLite/DSi: Handheld, A/C Adapter, Stylus

Can I trade in a defective/broken console?
For the most part yes. If it powers on but doesn't play games, they will take the console as a refurb unit and cut the trade-in value in half. You are still required to trade in everything required listed in the question directly above.

How much does an EDGE card subscription cost?
It costs $14.99 and is good for a year. It also comes with a 1-year subscription to Game Informer magazine.

What bonuses come with having an EDGE card?
You will get an extra 10% trade-in credit on the base value of the game and an extra 10% off the purchase of used games.

Does the EDGE Card give me a bonus on hardware trade-ins?
No. You will only get the bonus for games and accessories.

What if I want cash instead of credit, what do they deduct?
If you decide that you want cash instead of credit, they will take 20% off the base values and promos will not apply.

Does promo "....." have a minimum trade-in value?
If the promo has a minimum trade-in value requirement, it will be listed in the promo. If it isn't there, then there is no limit. However, as with all trades, they are subject to manager approval so the manager could have setup his own little rule-set requiring a minimum of whatever.

I used a Power Trade promo for a pre-order, can I cancel that pre-order and get the credit or move it to another game I want?
Yes on both accounts. However, if you do a bunch of the power trades and just straight drop the pre-order you could create some ill-will between yourself and the employees you cancel on.

I just tried to use a promo that has a select list of games eligible, but they say my game isn't eligible anymore, what gives?
Basically they have the right to change the eligible games at any time. They tend to update these frequently so as to lock out any easy/cheap games. It's best to check the eligible list the day of your trade.

Can I stack two different trade-in promos?
No. The only thing that will stack with trade-ins is your EDGE card.

If I pay for an item using all credit on my card, do I have to pay sales tax?
This varies depending upon the state you live in.

What states charge sales tax on purchases made with credit and which ones don't?
Charge Sales Tax on Credit Purchases:Arkansas, California, Florida, Maryland, Michigan, Pennsylvania,
Does Not Charge Sales Tax on Credit Purchases:Arizona, Colorado, Illinois, Indiana, Iowa, Kansas, Minnesota, Missouri, New Jersey, New York, North Dakota, Ohio, Oklahoma, Oregon, Texas, Wisconsin, Virginia,

My state doesn't charge sales tax on purchases made by credit, why is gamestop.com charging me tax?
It is just the way they have designed their system. The best theory we have seen is that since you are only inputting the number off of the back of the card, it isn't going to pick up the programming from the specially tagged EDGE cards.

Damn, I need to get myself a flyer then. Or they will probably pull some subject due to change at anytime BS.

Lists and database updated.

"All right, you proved your point. You broke into my vault. Congratulations, you're a dead man."

I stopped at the one GS tonight and asked about pre-order bonuses for God Of War III and the guy gave me one of the Kratos pre-order posters, even though I have it pre-ordered at another store.:D

Unfortunately, I had to roll it up to carry it back with me to the car and I doubt I'll ever hang it up, so it'll probably sit in my pile of various gaming related shit I've never used for a couple of years till I end up tossing it.

I didn't really expect the guy to give me the poster. I just asked him how many they got in and if it was going to be like the GTA IV license plates that they only got one of for each store(and then raffled off to everyone who showed up for the midnight release).

i was on the road when i heard about the damn 4 dollar tiv to gs not knowing what to do. i went in and tryed my luck, nope it was 4 bucks each! i grabbed the flyer and hope to see star wars on that list for 40 off gow3 or ffxIII i was able to get the guy to add two games to the gow3 and ffxii deal lol. i say overall it was a decent deal. got poster 5 dollar off ffxlll and a heavey rain dlc for free lol. dude even told me to pick up gow3 and he'll give me a krotos skin. not a bad day at all...

I have a question I was wondering if you guys could help me out with. Whats the point of the
"Power Trade 25% Trade any games towards the pre-order or purchase of God of War III, Final Fantasy XIII, Splinter Cell: Conviction: Battlefield Bad Company 2, Red Dead Redemption or Pokemon Heart Gold/Soul Silver and receive an extra 25% Trade-in Credit!"
if there is a 50% trade in credit deal on all games? It says the offers cant be combined on the gamestop website, and both offers end at the same date, so what's the deal?

i just got back from my local GS and i got the pre order god of war 3 bonus with trading in SW clone wars 360 and a Wii SW clone wars receipt washed the 4 dollars and made it 20 for both so if anyone was wondering it still works

The 50% trade in credit thing is if you just want to trade in some games, whereas the 25% bonus deal is if you want to trade them in towards specific games. However, the game specific trade deals require you to use the entire amount of credit you get(up to the games MSRP)to put a pre-order down for it, while the 50% deal allows you to just say to put it on the EDGE card.

There's also the 'trade 2, get GOW3 or FFXIII for $19.99' deal, which can be exploited(for now) by picking up two copies(1 for 360, 1 for Wii)of Star Wars Clone Wars: Republic Heroes from Blockbuster for $9.99 each. They get automatically bumped up to $20 each(plus 10% of the original value of $4 apiece with EDGE bous), then you can go in and cancel the pre-order before the game comes out and you've made $20 in TIV each.:D

BTW, the PS3 version of Clone Wars: Republic Heroes gets a whopping $5 before any bonuses.

So it essentially does stack then? Say if I wanted to trade in games tomorrow towards the purchase of BFBC2 I would be getting 75% extra TIV for the games?

Base TiV's from today:

Fallout 3: Operation Anchorage/The Pitt - $7.25
Fallout 3: Broken Steel/Pt. Lookout - $6
Madden 2010 (360) - $18
PGR4 - $2.50
Destroy all Humans (PS2) - $3.00

Total I got $65.19 after the promo's, but for some reason when I traded in Destroy all Humans 2 it rang up as Star Wars Battlefront 2. So I got $6.40 for that. lol
Need for Speed PS3 $18.00
Promos do NOT stack, but the EDGE card does stack with any promo. So if you have the EDGE(costs $15), it'll bump any trades up by 10% and it even works on cash trades now.

However, if you opt for cash, NO promos can be applied then.

So then whats the point of the 25% trade in towards the purchase/preorder of the game when you can just get the 50% trade in? Why would you ever want to go the 25% route?

Because some people are f'n stupid? They're hoping that some people will only want one of those two games and see 'bonus trade in towards' and not know about the 50% bonus trade promo.

Gamestop relies on the stupidity of the normal consumers to either just trade stuff without asking about promos or bonuses and socking them with refurb fees for the stupidest of reasons.

The employees at my gamestop always just seem to give you the highest offer and dont require you to know what the trade in deals are, so in this case I'd just get the 50% TIV anyways. So pretty much the 25% deal is just useless. So dumb.

Yeah. I don't understand why they're running 2 extra percentage promos at the same time. It was too bad about that tiered promo that just ended not too long ago having the minimum tiv bumped to $5 a game though, but I made out better with the 50% bump one this past week anyway.

Just pre-ordered GoW3 as well and got no poster, this happens to me fairly often. I honestly don't think the GS employees care for me at all, which is quite sad because I know they made some good money of me. Oh well I'll guess I'll cancel my pre-order.

Honestly, if I could figure out how to ship it without it costing an arm and leg, I would probably just offer it up on my TL for the cost of shipping.

But I know the hilarity that would ensue(durrr why is shipping dat high?!? I'm not paying dat much. I'll give you(insert lowball number)), so that's why I'm debating what to do with it as of now.

I don't have any poster tube type mailers and I know anyone truly wanting it would probably want it in mint condition, so folding it up and mailing it first class mail would be out. Besides which, it's a bit thicker paper, so if it were folded the creases would likely never come out.

FYI: I had GOW3 pre-ordered once before($5 deposit), but I changed my mind once already. Chances are, depending on how the reviews go for Just Cause 2, I may change my mind again.

3/01 traded on MOdern Warfare 2 for 360. THough maybe my store just wasnt updated with the drop in price. I say go to your stores anyways to see if you can get the 25$ base

I'll give a different store a shot tomorrow. Definitely 18 at the Wall, NJ store though.

Why would you do the 25% power trade bonus when all trades can get 50% extra credit? Is there a reason behind this or is GS just trying to trick unsuspecting gamers! =[

Their POS gives you whichever benefits the customer more. The reason for multiple promos is normally the promos which do not apply to a specific game have system or minimum tiv requirements. The promos for an extra 25% toward a game do not have system or minimum tiv requirements. Gamestop was about to do a tiered promo before they announced the 50% extra. The 25% would have been helpful to the people who had games which didn't qualify for the tiered promo.

See my other post. People NEVER read all the details of the promos. Normally power trades run concurrently with other trade promos. The power trade promo's never have requirements so that's why they run multiple promos at the same time. This current situation is a first where the power trade is completely irrelevant until the 50% expires anyway.

I got Madden 10 on the cheap. Could I do that 40 dollar deal towards pre-order for Madden 11 and cancel the pre-order a few weeks later(could care less for football games, other than NFL Blitz). Would they let me?

I'm certainly glad they decided to forgo the tiered trade promo for the 50% bonus one this time, since it ended up better for me for the most part because there was no minimum trade value(unlike that bs over $5 min for the tiered:bomb:).

I just wish I had traded a few of them a little sooner than I did, since some of the values still sucked.

Thats the plan. How much did these run you? Also anyone know if a fully paid for pre-order can be backed out of? I would like the credit back from FFXIII towards Red Dead if possible.
