It was noted in another thread that GTA: San Andreas will be 29.99 for Xbox and PC in the upcoming CompUSA ad for June 12th, by Showstoppa. He said he would get a scan of the ad soon, so I believe this is legit.

I belived a deal like this deserved it's own thread, since this is an awesome deal that got buried in a different deal thread.

If you pricematch it to CC or BB, that's an extra 10% making the game 27.99. I know I can wait that extra week for 22 dollars in savings.

just came back from dealing with compusa's crap. went to the one in lombard, il. none in stock, so i "special ordered" it.

just for kicks, i went over to fry's and they had 10 in stock for 29.99. heh, go figure. so i bought from fry's went back and cancelled at compusa.

i'm happy.

Went to CC and got the price match. Somebody had done the exact same thing before I got there so the clerk did not need to call. I was scared that my Xbox would not work as I have a Thompson drive. (saw many IGN posts saying only newer drives were running it without problems) It works like a dream and I could not be happier. Anybody know how much trade in credit we could get for the PS2 version?

I just joined cheap ass gamer and already saved over $20 on my first CAG inspired purchase.

Comp USA is such a POS company. I went to pick it up today and of course they were out of stock. Said they only had like 5 copies in stock. They do this is to hurt other companies since you go else where to price match. No wonder Best Buy and Circuit city whoop their ass sales and service wise.

I figured it would be something like that. Which is why I hauled ass out of bed this morning and was at BB around 11:15 this morning.

I'd go visit CC and see if they'll do it. Strike up a convo with the person at the register. bring up the PM, and see what happens. For me, at the CC's out here, they almost never call. BB's, not as easy.

I was down in the Orlando area taking a few "Personal days" after the Microsoft Teched 2005 Conference. I went to the Compusa in Altamonte Springs at 12:30 pm and they had about 15 in stock.

Went there around 2 o' clock, and guess what? Sold out! Brought a copy of their ad over to BB to pricematch. BB pricematched it with no questions asked. Only thing that was stupid was that they wouldn't let me use a GGC with it. They said it can't be combined with pricematching which is BS because I pricematched GR2 last time with a GGC. But it's all good because $29.99 for a game that just came out a week ago is sweet.

The terms of the GGC says that it can't be combined with any other offers. PM is one of those offers. If you get it to work, then you were lucky. Normally, it doesn't happen. Their register system causes coupons not to work when you do a manual price adjustment, like what happens with a PM.

I bought San Andreas for Xbox at Best Buy on Friday and returned today with the printout of the CompUSA ad. They tried calling CompUSA but didn't reach anybody. Then the manager came out, said there wasn't a date on the ad, but she ended up pricematching anyway.

$27.99 Thanks CAG :p

She's fucking blind. On page 1, it says there in plain text, in the upper right hand corner:

Prices good June 12-18, 2005.

Right under the text that says:

Look inside for Great Gifts for Dads!

oh, it was a print out of the scan posted here, so it wasn't the whole ad

There wasn't a CompUSA ad in the newspaper here, so I'm glad the scan still worked :)

Explains why she didn't get clued in on it. I'm surprised she let you do it with a partial copy of the ad. Around here, if it's not the real deal and clearly shows the timeframe of the pricing, they'll tell you to get fucked.

This happened to me.

I checked about 20 papers at the grocery store hoping at least ONE of them had a copy of this ad... I've been getting CompUSA ad's for many years and this is the first time it's never shown up.

It's too bad it's the ONLY time I've wanted it to show up. Now I've got to drive 25 minutes to CompUSA to score the ad.

Thanks for the help, but the local Circuit City only has about two copies total for the PC.

I figure if I don't jump on it tommorrow, it'll be sold out by the time I get the ad. Best Buy was surpringsly already sold out of the PC version, the employee told me they barely got any copies in though.

Thanks again for the offer... you are truly a man among CAG's Shrike.

If you still have issues, I can try and track down a copy locally for you, if you need to. I don't think it'll be a massive issue, since I'll just run to CC this time around. I went to BB because of the $5 RZ cert. Let me know how it goes tomorrow.

I just wanted to thank everyone for this thread. I live in VT which does not have one CompUSA in or near my area. Plus because of that BB and CC do not price match their prices. Since I happened to be in the Orlando area and able to get a copy of GTA, I am grateful. I also picked up MOH as well, since I rarely ever have the instant gratification of buy a VG in the store.

Thanks again...

I just picked it up Sat. night, and they told me to come back within 7 days to get the $20 difference. I went today to ajdust the price and used the money to pick up MOH:EA. They only had three copies in stock Sat. night so I knew I'd never get one today. Worked out well.

I went to BB yesterday and there were a ton of GTA San Andreas on a table near the front of the store, don't know the price but something was up.

Something is up, they are trying to sell them because the game just came out for Xbox (and PC) and that is a big deal.

I did my price-adjustment today (bought from BB last week), no problem.

Pricematched mine at the CC in Tucson. There was also one copy of Splinter Cell:Chaos Theory Limited Edition at the CompUSA in Tucson if anyone is near. It was on a rack to the side of the main display that had the supposed discount games. Maybe someone stashed it there and never came back for it.

I got my BB to pricematch :)

I didn't have the original ad, so I figured I was screwed . . . the scan just isn't enough.

But combined with the online listing . . . which the clerk was going to shoot down, but I pointed out "In Store Only." Then she was going to call the store (I didn't have time for that) and I said, "here's the number and it shows that its instock" (printout from their website showing that a store 30 miles away had it). She looks at it, "is that from today?" Yep . . . "oh, you got me everything, didn't you?"

I was out of the store with $30 GTASA in minutes!

Thanks guys!

I dumped off my PS2 copy, traded to a CAGer for Stranger's Wrath (right after its release).

I'll have to remember that in the future, schultzed. Good points on letting that happen.

I called Circuit City to see if I could just bring in the webpage ad... the customer service rep told me all computers had internet access, and they can verify and check other store's stock from there.

I really wish they made a Circuit City reward zone card.

All computers have Internet access, when they work.

I've told BB more than once, to the CS reps, that when I go for a price match and want the 10% additional that I really dislike not being able to get it at the time of purchase like Circuit City does. That tends to get a bit of a look from them, though it's true. I hate dealing with a charge for the full amount and a credit for the PM'd difference amount on my credit card, I'd rather just deal with one charge for the whole PM'd price and be done with it.

If CC offered a RZ-style card, I'd be done with BB in a second, unless for something specific that only they had in stock.

Yesterday was the first time that I got hassled for the additional 10% on the price match (came from both the CSR annd the CS manager); said that they can't do the 110% differeence on the same day of the transaction, said that the difference was so great that Best Buy is losing money and can't apply the extra 10% (i.e. they matched the $29.99 price, but can't give me another $2 off!??!?!!). I was so livid, I asked for a refund on the item and took my business to Circuit City, where they gave me the 110% difference. I'm not renewing my RZ card when it expires next month.

BTW, CC does offer 5% back on purchases made at their stores, but only through their credit card.

That's complete crap. Their PM policy says nothing about not being able to do same-day PM's, that's a store manager call and not BB policy.

I've done the following routine many times:

1) Buy item at the regular checkout lines for full price.
2) Walk over to customer service counter, without leaving the store, with BB receipt and ad showing lower price.
3) Ask for PM + 10% of the difference, and get said PM.
4) Leave store.

Never been an issue yet.

In the same situation you were in, I'd have done the same thing right then and there, and actually have done it a few times, when I found out my BB's only chose the closest local store to the BB location to check with. IE, if the Target store down the road from the BB I normally frequent didn't have the item, though a Target 10 miles away did, they'd tell me they couldn't do it, and to go to BB store X, closest to that Target. I've had that happen a few times, did what you did, returned the item, and went to CC without a single issue.

This is why I go to CC for the PM's unless I had something like a RZ cert, which I did in this case. They renewed my RZ card for next year for free, I guess I haven't been buying enough from them in the last year's time. Which I haven't.

I'll be picking up my copy today. (I hope!) Sucks that you can't check local store inventory online, but at least the local CompUSA is pretty close. I thought about just doing a PM to begin with, but I think I'll pick one up without that hassle if they are in stock.

UPDATE: Got the last copy at my CompUSA. They brought them all up to the customer service desk at my store and the dude told me I had the last one. The lady ringing me up said her husband loves the PS2 version and wants the Xbox version for Father's day. Then she saw it rang for $30 and was like 'Wha? Is that the price this week! I gotta get one for my husband now for sure.' I didn't have the heart to tell her I was about to carry the last one out the front door.

I was able to check the local inventory at my CompUSA, it said the game was in stock, but when i went they were sold out. The guy who was helping me said that they only got 6 copies in and they were all sold out. Then I headed to Best Buy, they had like 15 copies so i nabed one took it to the counter and it takes the lady 20 minutes to find her manager because the discount is so much. The bastard at the next cash register over was looking at the CompUSA ad i brought in and hes all "Oh, you need to buy the PC and XB version to get them for 29.99 each." I basically told him that he is a fucking idiot and asked why someone would want a PC and XB version of the same game (in a much nicer manner). Eventually the manager came and gave me the game for 29.99 but no 10%, whatever i just wanted to get out of there because game 2 of the NBA finals was going to start in 10 minutes. Im not too mad but it pisses me off that CompUSA has a sale on a game then only has 6 copies and Best Buy has to profile a deal if it is too good and then not give you a discount.

Every once in a while, you come across someone truly deserving of the "Are you really that ignorant" look. Of course, the look is wasted on them, as they wouldn't understand the meaning.

I picked this up today, but much to my surprise they also had Batman Begins on display. I grabbed it and brought gta and batman. GTA rang up 30 but batman begins rang up $615!. I showed them the ad showing 30 also, but then the manager came over and said that 'its not out yet' and took it away. Oh well, still got my gta.

Got my pricematch for PC and Xbox versions yesterday. Very nice to pocket the ~ $45.

It is nice to see one major store left that goes with good loss leaders, like Best Buy used to do.
I remember when they had Vice City PS2 for $35 on release day. It basically made EB kill their price matching policy.

To those complaining CompUSA didn't have it in stock should have done what I did, buy it earlier in the week at full price. ;)
Of course I had to wait 15 minutes to get the adjustment, but it was worth it to have it a few days earlier.
I got burned by their low stock the time they had Forza Motor Sports on sale. They sold out the first day. Must have had 4 copies in stock.

Printed out the price from the website, Circuit City price matched it without blinking an eye and without calling anyone.

They do that on their website, too. To keep people from buying it early, they set the price in the system to the release date (in this case, Wednesday, 6/15).

I took the ad to circuit city and they priced matched it no prob. It was the first time I pricematched at CC and was surprised how smooth it went.

Got a copy today at my CompUSA. They had all of the copies in the back though so you had to ask a store associate for it. That might be why I was able to score one because if you were to just scan the shelf there's no sign of it anywhere.

$39.99, but who's counting? ;) Was able to PM TRU's B2G1 at Best Buy and got Sly Cooper, The Mark of Kri, and Vice City for just under $80.

I bought GTA:SA at Best Buy for full price at the regular checkout... then I walked over to the CS desk to PM... She tried calling CompUSA to verify but no one picked up... Then she tore out the ad that had the $29.99 price (normally they photocopy... I didn't realize it until now but I wasn't give the 10% difference either.

I never had this much trouble before at other BB locations (calling the store, ripping the ad out, not giving the 10% difference).

There seem to be some consistent messages in these pages:

PM at CC = Easy

PM at BB = Hostile Employees

myke.
...you'd think that fools whose wages are not dependent upon what is or isn't sold wouldn't care one way what you pay.

CompUSA is NOTORIOUS for having a killer sale on something (often a movie or game) and having like 6 copies available of it. That's one of the reasons I generally refuse to shop there.

you can get a raincheck. It usually takes a few weeks for compusa to reinstock.

Well, here's the answer to your question (10% off).

You have to buy the game at Bestbuy (whatever the price they sell). Take the compusa ads w/ receipt to customer service to pricematch it then they'll give u extra 10% off. They don't give u extra 10% off when you buy the game at the same time you pricematch.

Bestbuy is EVIL and i never get extra 10% whenever i pricematch cuz it take forever to wait in the like even only 2-3 peoples in front of u.

That's the procedure that SHOULD happen but I've noticed they are starting to ring price matches up as returns and re-buys which will NOT give you the additional 10% off the difference. If your receipt that you got when you PMed says "RETURN" at the top, even if it reads "Matched with competitors price" on it, it will NOT have the extra 10% off the matched price. It has to say "PRICE MATCH" at the top of the receipt. The functions are two different things on their systems unless that has changed recently. I think BB might have started to encourage employees to do the return and re-buy instead of price match in order to stop having to shell out that additional money to the consumer.
