Guess who got a contract to help clean up Katrina?

KBR was assigned the work under a "construction capabilities" contract awarded in 2004 after a competitive bidding process. The company is not involved in the Army Corps of Engineers' effort to repair New Orleans' levees.

OMG they won a competitive bid. SHOCKING! Just SHOCKING! They won this contract BEFORE the hurricane! OMG OMG OMG

Do you think they got so big since 2001 from no bid government contracts? They've been the biggest construction and oil services company for decades. And to think you never even knew who they were until Dick Cheney became VP.

Haliburton to many liberals is like someone suddenly learning GE exists. They had no idea until Bush and Cheney were President and VP the company even existed let alone was a multi-billion dollar enterprise.

They are the best prepared and best qualified company to handle this job. Whats the point of this thread?

PAD, you're still here! So what made you pop into this thread instead of, say, the one you started slamming other countries for not offering us aid, or where you claimed that the Bush administration couldn't have known that cutting funding for New Orleans flood countrol might be a bad idea?

Anyway, there really isn't a point to this thread. It just winds up seeming odd that every time there's a major disaster, there's Halliburton there making money off of it. Time and time again they've ripped off the US government, from missing millions in Iraq, to the fact that they're now more than a YEAR behind schedule in rebuilding Iraq's infastructure, to feeding US troops expired food. Yet somehow, they manage to get a government contract to do it AGAIN.

Speaking of Halliburton, has anyone seen Cheney lately? He's been rather mysteriously absent the past week or so. Probably broke down again, and had to be shipped back to the manufacturing plant in China for repairs...

Between Cheney being MIA, Dubya cutting cake with McCain and jamming on a guitar, and Condoleeza Rice shopping for shoes, it's no wonder why it took 5 fucking days to get help there. Then help rolls in the moment Dubya arrives, even turning people away who are begging for food to be sent in. Photo op, anyone? This is the most worthless leadership in the history of the United States. It's time to impeach this shithead.

Nice to know that Haliburton has it's own personal butt-monkey on the forums to keep the facts straight. Aren't you suppose to be enjoying your vacation in Lousiana right now? Pillaging and killing all the would be terrorists.

They didn't bring the National Guard in until noon today when Bush went in.

Ya I suppose that 40,000 national guardsman from 38 states should just somehow be available in the snap of an eye. This is not the Presidents fault when the Governors of each state have to deploy the National Guard not the President.

You know, they could NOT HELP AT ALL. Haliburton will help a hell of a lot more people than any of you loudmouths. Quit crying and go do something about it, instead of complaining about people and companies who are actually trying to help the situation. You are the same kinds of morons who will complain about Bill Gates ONLY giving a million dollars to charity.

It's not called help when you are getting paid for it idiot.

And.....they could've sent them in earlier. Like the morning at least.
And.....they could've sent them in earlier. Like the morning at least.
Yeah, I guess it is Bush's fault. He should've spend all that war money on Star Trek technology and found a way to automatically "beam" all those National Guards men to the disaster area instread of having them drive cross country.

He could maybe have hired competent people who could do their jobs.

The plans for dealing with these sorts of emergencies was there. The people who's job it is to deal with disasters of this sort were ready to go. They were ready to go Sunday, but didn't get the orders they needed until Thursday. FOUR DAYS, in which National Guard troops sat around waiting for orders. What was holding them back? Incompetent fuck-ups in Washington. Incompetent fuck-ups hired by Bush. But hey, I'm sure they're all 100% loyal to Bush, and that's all that matters.
