Well I guess getting Darkrai wasn't the last time I would visit TRU. Get there early to avoid this:

That is a nasty-ass controller.

And honestly, the 1 cheapy heads on all the DS threads, who the hell is doing it, and what the hell is wrong with you?

An employee had one and let me try it today. The game was actually more fun to play than I expected. The graphics are pretty decent. It's a bit strange to have the "frets" off to the wrong side, but the swiping of the pick is very similar to strumming across real guitar strings.

It was quite comfortable and entertaining. I might buy the game.

I have the full DS Lite GH:OT bundle on reserve at Gamestop. I have a white DS Lite from when it was released. I've decided it's time to trade it in for a fancy colored one. :)

just picked it up and played for a bit...

really surprised that it's not as stupid as it looks. you'd think it'd be awkward, but i think it really does feel like a shrunk-down version of the console versions. i'm impressed, and actually would recommend it to guitar hero fans.

though, i do think the target box for the touch-screen is a bit unforgiving. there were more than a few times that i strummed and it didn't pick up on it. i'm sure i missed the strings, so it's not really bad, but considering you're strumming on one screen and focusing on a second, there should probably be more wiggle room.
Dear god, I hope there's some screen protectors on that poor thing.
He is playing it all wrong.. its very responsive and you just need to slide back and forth gently.. He is hammering his screen and only strumming in 1 direction.. Halfway through the song he just starts tapping..

That video shows what I feel is the worst part about this game on the DS: the sound. The sound quality on good games is already terrible, and the only thing worse than the built-in speakers on the DS are the built-in speakers on my MacBook.

I got it today and it's quite good.

The only thing that drives me nuts as a guitar player is that power chords on the 2nd and 4th "frets" pretty much have to be played with your middle and pinky finger. Which is beyond unnatural for me. My fingers are small enough that I can actually shuffle my index and ring fingers into that position, but it's probably best from a game PoV if I just force use of middle and pinky.

Strumming with the pick/stylus is a great feel for those of us who actually play. Very satisfying.

The sound quality is only passable, even with headphones, and any review that says otherwise just doesn't know crap about good sound quality. But it's good enough, and it's worth the trade-off to have the compression rather than only a few songs.

All of this is nitpicky. The fact is that the game is beyond fun to play, and my hat's off to Vicarious Visions for pulling this off.

I wonder if they'll have another demo somewhere. I've never actually owned a Guitar Hero game, but I've played it before, and it looks a lot more manageable than constantly moving with things as unwieldy as large plastic guitars (and drums, and microphones...).
