Update - Amazon and GameStop have the game listed at $49.99 which pretty much squashes any chance of me buying the game.

The pic says it all. I was wondering how Activision was going to pull off a Guitar Hero game for the DS but this looks pretty promising.

The Guitar Grip will plug into the Game Boy Advance slot at the bottom of the Nintendo DS system. Players put their hand through the strap of the Guitar Grip for a firm hold on the system, and then position the system in its vertical book form. The peripheral has a storage area for a specially designed stlyus pick, which is used to strum the guitar strings on the touch-screen.

On Tour will contain a line-up of more than 20 licensed songs from bands as Nirvana, OK Go, and No Doubt; Activision will most certainly reveal the full list of bands and songs as we get closer to the game's summer release date.

Karthik Bala, CEO of developer Vicarious Visions, says "There are more than 20 songs in the game, with the majority being exclusive to Guitar Hero: On Tour." he continues, "We've done custom note tracking for all the songs and over 80 percent of the songs are original, master recordings."

I forsee the biggest problem being that the pick won't register on the touch screen a lot. That being said, I'm pretty much guitar hero'd out. I think they've just taken it too far. Eh... to each their own.
 
Interesting. But not necessary to have a good music experience on the DS. Nintendo just needs to bring over Daigasso Band Bros. Surprising that they haven't given the success of Elite Beat Agents and Rock Band.

because the GBA slot in a fat DS it longer than DS lite. Normally GBA sticks on on the Lite
 
When I saw pictures in the OTT, I was sad it only had four buttons.

This looks pretty cool, and given that I can only barely manage 4 buttons anyway, that it only has 4 buttons isn't a problem for me. I'm trying to decide, though, if I have the nerve to play this on the train I take every day to/from work. :) I've only played (only own) Guitar Hero 1, so I'm not GH'd out yet, and given that I don't have a lot of time for video games at home, a portable version of GH is appealing.

I think the video actually helps with the sell a little. I guess there's a "blowing on the mic" feature in there as well. I dunno, I still think it's awkward to have to hold the DS that way and try to look at the screen. And of course, the sound isn't going to be very good with those built-in DS speakers. Not going to completely write it off, but...ehhhh.
 
I thought the video was kinda cool. I guess I'm hyped about the gimmicky aspect and just want one just to own one. Judging by the responses on this thread, guess I'll be the only one to have this on their trading list.
 
Interesting.

Could be entertaining, although I am sick of developers trying to incorporate the microphone into games and I am afraid it will cost $49.99. If this has online multiplayer it could be decent, otherwise probably mediocre.

I should probably reserve judgment until I play it but going from G-Y to R-B looks to be next to impossible since you can't really slide your fingers (which is why I bet they opted for 4 buttons). The whole thing reminds me of when Sega let THQ port Super Monkey Ball to the GBA. That game NEEDED an analog stick to control the monkeys but they shoehorned it in there anyway and it totally sucked. Guitar Hero NEEDS a guitar controller (with the ability to actually strum too) and I have a bad feeling about this...
 
I'm impressed with the ingenuity, but I still am skeptical if it's going to be any good. Any optimism I have is almost squarely resting on Vicarious Vision's track record with excellent DS games, particularly their ability to downsize a game and still keep it fun.

But that video was horrid. Girl was kinda cute, but really... that was awful.
 
There's no way I'd ever let myself be seen in public playing that, which kind of defeats the purpose of a portable Guitar Hero.
 
It's a neat idea and honestly, they did a good job incorporating the game for the DS, at least in appearances. Still, I'd rather have a true Guitar Hero experience. Guitar Hero III for the Wii is a great game, and I'll likely try Aerosmith too, although goodness knows I don't know that band. I just like playing songs. Hm...guess I need Rock Band Wii.
 
I'm definitely skeptical. Can't watch the video at work, but the whole concept seems odd. And I wonder how the lefty flip would work...

You have four fingers for four buttons. Why would you need to slide to do that button combo?
 
Sweet Jesus Christ that commercial was fucking horrible. It made me feel embarrassed for watching it. That is probably the absolute best way that they could port it to the DS, and I applaud them for not half-assing it, but it's still not going to be good.

The whole point of guitar hero is the guitar controller. Otherwise you're just pushing buttons.

Pointer on G, ring on Y.

Then middle on R, pinky on B.
 
Does Guiter Hero know what foreplay is? They shot their whole load in what - like two or three years?

Wake me up when it's a boardgame put out by Hasbro...
 
It's not a bad implementation but it does take away from the portability. I wonder if there is an option to play with just the face buttons. I guess time will tell if it actually pulls it off or not.

I just gave myself a pretty big WTF look after watching the video. Wow.
 
I'm sure it'll never come near EBA or Ouendan, but I'll give it a try if it's not too overpriced($40 would be ok, anything more is pushing it), and if the thing actually works for playing the game. Of course if it won't work with the old DS I can't play it anyway, and I definitely wouldn't buy a new DS just to play this.

Guys, the awkward orientation alone should tell you how much this will suck.

This is a great opportunity for Konami to fire a shot on the beginning of GH's demise.
 
Cool idea, not sure if I care enough to buy it but if I could find a deal I'd be tempted, assuming that playing it left handed works well. I think what they came up with is about as good as you could expect for a handheld version of guitar hero.
