Guitar Hero II 360 bundle at Best Buy for $44.99 - YMMV

GTGD

CAGiversary!
Apparently Best Buy is getting rid of all of their GH2 bundles for the 360, and dropped the price significantly. Today in store there were about 6 left when I found out about the deal. I haven't heard about any other Best Buys doing it, but the change just happened today.

This is a great deal, since I essentially get a ridiculously cheap Xplorer (the Xplorer alone is $60), plus a copy of the game.

Anyway, it's definitely worth checking out, especially if you need another controller.

I'd love to have this for $45. This price is not reflected on the website. so most likely a big YMMV. Any confirmation from anyone else?

Sounds like a YMMV clearance price at 50% off $89.99. I'd be surprised if very many Best Buys are clearancing this game, hell a lot of them are probably sold out.

My best buy has both a pallet of 360 versions and PS2 versions. the 360 version didn't have a price, but being that there were well over 100 bundles on the pallet, I'm going to doubt that they were selling them at $45.

Has anybody been able to confirm this as being a legit deal? I'm interested if this is real, but nobody else has mentioned this deal on this message board or other similar sites and I'm smellin' shenanigans.

I called my local Best Buy, and the guy said they were being advertised for $79.99. So unfortunately for me, this deal is not good. It may be available at other stores, but I doubt it.

I got this a week ago or so and I was gonna go in and price adjust it for the $79.99 sale this week, but if I can price adjust it to $45 that would be fantastic....

I will check this out tonight after work and post my findings.

Thanks for the info, boomstick521. Not to discredit the original poster, but the fact that was his first post, and it was as vague as you could get, should have raised two red flags regarding the validity of this deal.

This sounds like an extremely YMMV deal... good luck to anyone who finds a copy priced like this.

And shhh--I got my two copies for free ;)

Considering that Guiter Hero 2 is in this week's ad (for $79.99), the OP must have just got lucky and ran into a store that had an idiot incorrectly pricing stuff.

That can be fun at times. :whistle2:D

I am good friends with the media manager at my local Best Buy. I will stop by this afternoon and see if there is any validity to this deal.

Like someone else said, maybe the original poster just got lucky at a particular store.

I had the wife check out one of the BB stores here in Richmond. No dice on the half off price. I think this is a big YMMV deal.

wait what?

Well, I looked in Beaverton, Or, and it was not marked down, although I didn't check at the register.

What I did find are 2 deals, the madcatz arcade controller w frogger, time pilot, astropop and a 48 gold trial for $10, and NFL street for the PS2 for $1. It looks like the store is putting up a $1 table every weekday, I saw one yesterday with just some stickers and ps2 demo discs, didn't think about it until I went and checked on this deal this morning and they restocked it again.

I'm sure is very YMMV, but if you live close to a best buy might be worth checking first thing in the morning to see if all stores are doing a similar thing, I would imagine it will be picked over pretty well in an hour or two after opening.

Oh, and the matcatz arcade controller is a wired usb one, I already checked and it is compatible with pc computers.
wait what?
Guitar Hero 2 for 360 is in this week's Best Buy ad for $79.99. Sorry, I worded my post wrong; I realize now it sounds like I said it was $44.99 in the ad.

Anyway, since it's in the ad, there's no real reason to have it marked even lower than advertised.

No Guitar Hero bundle but i did see xplorer guitars originally priced 49.99 at the 50% table near the registers. Sugarland, TX.

I recently visited my local best buy (levittown, NY) and saw a stack of the Guitar Hero II bundle packs (game and guitar) for XBOX 360 labeled $44.99. Not sure if this is going on anywhere else, but from what I've seen of the black friday deals, this one is much better. Anyway, I hope this helps and that some of you can get your hands on these.

I think so .. u need 2 guitars, Drum, and Micro to play Rockband. Also, i heard u do not to have 2-4 peoples to play rockband unless u have friends.

Hold it there, You said that you need 2 guitars, The drumset and microphone to play rockband but then you say that you don't. Make up your mind, Please.

I know that you can use any of those instruments to play it by yourself or any combination with friends, But please, Type preoperly.

i thought that BOTH guitar hero II and III guitars would "work" with rockband, but the Rock band guitars wouldn't work on GHII or III...

1. Deal is VERY YMMV. But, if you're in Best Buy, you should definitely check.

2. All guitars - ALL - work with Rock Band, but only RedOctane guitars work with RedOctane games.

3. You don't need more than one person to play Rock Band. I've already played it by myself. There are campaigns for guitars, drums, and vocals, all with all the trimmings you expect from a career in the GH series. You can buy it disc only, play with your one existing guitar, and have a blast.

Bottom line is that the GH2 guitar works with all, but in Rock Band, you can't do some of the "rocking out" type stuff. I don't know how much that will affect the game. According to IGN, not much. The GH3 guitar and Rock Band guitars do not work on the opposite's game...

The IGN article
http://xbox360.ign.com/articles/830/830759p1.html

ETA: I speak lies. See Alfonso below to see where I obviously didn't RTFA. GH3 works on RB.

It says right in that article that the GH3 guitar works with Rock Band:

The Guitar Hero 3 Les Paul also works with everything and also can't be used to activate the Rock Band special effects. We tried it on Rock Band and played through roughly 10 songs without any hitches.

Levittown is like a half hour from me, but I am not going to be around to get it for a few days. Were there a bunch there? You think they will be there in a few days?

The Rock Band special effects don't really affect the game. There's a switch you can use to add effects to the sound, which I don't see myself using much at all. The extra frets are also mainly for show. If you really know a song and want to add challenge, you can try to use them, but if you can't, you're missing nothing. The only thing that would affect gameplay is that in the freeform rocking out at the end of some songs, you can just wail on the frets with the RB guitar, whereas you'll need to strum with the GH ones. This will cost you a few points in the end, but it won't hurt you terribly.

How major are the differences between the GH2 and GH3 controllers? Obviously the GH3 controller is wireless while the GH2 one isn't, but that doesn't matter to me too much. In of the articles mentioned earlier, they stated the button placement is a bit different? Are the differences so major that the GH3 controller is worth the extra money?

A lot of asking, I know.

The GH2 X-plorer guitar is a different shape from the GH3 Les Paul. Personally, I find the Les Paul easier and more comfortable to hold than the X-plorer. Also, the Xbox button on the X-plorer is placed in a way that it's pretty easy to hit it accidentally when you're playing (annoying). Though, you should know that a lot of people have been reporting fret problems with the Les Paul (probably due to the detachable neck) so the X-plorer may not be a bad option.

also the back button is much larger on the Les Paul than the explorer, which is a big deal if you aren't a fan of the guitar flip for star power.

I actually first saw these about to weeks ago, I went back a week later and they were still there, and I haven't been back since last week. I'm planning on going there tomorrow, I'll let you all know if they're still around.

Bust for me. The Best Buy in Leesburg, VA, has literally almost fifty GHII bundles (I counted 'em) just on the floor alone, but they're labed at $90. I wonder if they think there's actually a chance they're going to sell the bundles at that price. I'm also curious if they have a lot more in the back as well.

I expect no less from my local Best Buy. They're just plain awful.
