Guitar Hero: Metallica in the works
Also realize that for one some bands are hard to license and two, like Ill reply to the person above me, THIS ISNT THE WHOLE SETLIST.
Yeah....
I realize this is not a complete list
Didn't know Grohl liked Metallica that much, though.
Yeah....

Wasnt really talking to you, but the people who didnt realize this.

edit: for some background heres an open letter Dave wrote to Metallica before Death Magnetic was released.

"Dear METALLICA,

"Hey, it's Dave! Remember me? Yeah, I'm the guy that's been listening to your band faithfully since 1983. I bought your first album 'Kill 'Em All' from a mailorder catalogue called Under The Rainbow, I think. Actually I can't remember. It was 1983 for Christsakes! But that album changed my life and I've been listening to your albums ever since (even 'St Anger'!).

"I can't wait to hear the new shit, and no matter what you guys do I'll always be first one at the shop waiting to hear it. I'm sure you'll come out and blow everybody's fuckin' minds, because you're fuckin' METALLICA!

"Good luck. And don't release it until it's kick-ass.

"Yours, Dave Grohl.

"P.S. Are you finished recording the drums yet?"

Hopefully they will leave any of that trash from Load and Unload off the game. I don't care what anyone says... those albums were awful.

Not a bad tracklist. Seems a lot less "watered down" than GH3 and World Tour.

"Yes, we know, it's the worst kept secret in rock-n-roll but we're here now to finally confirm that there will indeed be an all-Metallica Guitar Hero game released in the first half (!?) of 2009. Guitar Hero Metallica allows you to play as us in either single instrument or band career game modes in your choice of some famous settings (Tushino Airfield anyone?) or new venues with in the round staging. Included are 28 Metallica songs along with a few from some of our buddies like as ALICE IN CHAINS, THE FOO FIGHTERS, SLAYER, MACHINE HEAD and QUEEN. There is also an all new Expert+ difficulty setting featuring two bass drum kick pedals (!!!) along with all the gameplay modes from Guitar Hero World Tour. Over the next few months, we're going to be updating you with track listings, more features, of course how and when you can get the game, and some cool previews of the game right here on the site. As you've heard us say before, keep checking back for more details!"
So I guess there are 17 songs left to be revealed after the already leaked list.

There's also a USA Today article, interview, and images from the game here:

http://www.usatoday.com/tech/gaming/2008-12-14-metallica-game-qanda_N.htm

I wish it was just Metallica. I understand they needed to pad the crappy aerosmith release with other bands but they don't need to do that with Metallica.

I guess I was hoping for too much as the current setlist looks disappointing.

This game should just be their first 4 albums. It would fucking rule
Ummm...there are 17 Metallica songs left to announce. There could be 10 more non-Metallica songs for all we know.
That's what I meant.
Fewer than 50 songs then? Yuck. Cheaper than DLC, but still kinda yuck.
Add the Death Magnetic DLC and it shouldnt be that big of a problem, RTL and MOP have 8 tracks each, KEA has 10, take out One and AJFA has 8. Taking out the instrumentals and lesser known stuff I dont think its going to be that restricting.

Burton was larger part of the band than most people think. After he died it went downhill from there. Truly an amazing bass player. And Justice.. did have some fine tracks though. Battery, Orion, One, etc.

If this game has Harvester of Sorrow and Welcome Home(Sanitarium) I'm all over it! Hope Seek and Destroy, Whiplash, and Creeping Death sneak in there as well.

The track list should be heavy older stuff but because Black was so big it has to include those(which I can live with). It should not include anything off load ,reload, or st anger though.
GH Pantera would be awesome. I wish Rock band would put up some Pantera songs as DLC....

and I would get excited, but I know Acitivision will screw this up some how.
Rock Revolution of all games is getting like 5 covers of Pantera songs.

Exactly! Pantera should be on GH Metallica! Slayer better be also!

I would love to shred some Dimebag tracks! Putting Cowboys from Hell in the first Guitar Hero was such a tease! Cemetary Gates, Walk, 5 minutes alone, F-Hostile, Mouth For War, Primal Concrete Sledge, etc.

The band went downhill when Mustaine left. :D

I'll probably buy the game. I wanna play tracks off RTL.

Man...and supposedly a Hendrix version is in the works too

The only way I would get this is if it's extremely hard

Rock band and Guitar Hero World tour are soooo easy it's a joke plzzz save us from the easyness

PS Metallica are gay and whine too much

I am shockingly surprised how not disappointed I am with that song list.

And Just put the entire first three Pantera albums up for DLC and I can die happy.

Fucccccck. That is a really good song list. I was going to buy it anyway since they threw in some Samhain, but throwing in Orion and that Mercyful Fate medley (marathon songs that aren't boring, hooray!) - I may have to buy the goddamn thing twice.

I agree that the omission of The Four Horsemen is a pretty big oversight, but the rest of the list is so good I don't care. That's what DLC is for I suppose.

Am I Evil? is one of the last Diamond Head songs I would have thrown in there, but it's certainly understandable why they did. I just wish they had used the Metallica version of that and then gone with another Diamond Head song...maybe It's Electric, The Prince, or Dead Reckoning (which Metallica swiped the Seek and Destroy riff from). No big deal though.

Garage Inc. was before S&M ;)
Told my GF, she's so fricken happy. She grew up with Metallica.

She likes all this metal and awesome rock music. And I listen to MGS sound tracks, podcasts and cold play. =/
Win

haha

ohh btw I heard about the Hendrix version in a podcast, I guess Slash leaked it

Guitar Hero Hendrix leak

Of course it was. In my defense, I was super worn out last night when I typed that up. Part of the reason for listing them like that was for the people who undoubtedly have never even listened to Metallica, yet would come in here and say "lol new Metallica sux, they should have put old shit on there" because they've been conditioned to say that by the internet.

Holy shit! Mercyful Fate, Samhain, Slayer, Mastadon and Suicidal Tendencies! I'm more excited about those than the Metallica tracks. Count me down!

A few things now that I've had time to let the whole list sink in.

No Four Horsemen make me a sad panda.
No Jump in Fire (I think that song would be fun... repetitive, but fun as a band)
No Ride the Lightning? That's the tag line to the game, I'll let go because of FTB and Creeping Death.
No So What? (I kid, I kid... can you imagine the edit job?)

Other than that I'm suprised St. Anger isn't on there, but I'm OK with it :) This one is actually going to be good I think.

I don't know if this has been mentioned here yet, but at Gamestop today I saw a sign that said if you preorder this, you get an extra bass drum pedal as a bonus. It was a handwritten sign taped to the counter, so I'm not sure if it was store-specific or what.

Thats at all stores. Anybody know if the 360 has a month or two exclusive window over the PS3?

Um...why the hell is One going to be in this game? It was already in 3...

On a brighter note, i'm glad to see turn the page and stone cold crazy! I wish turn the page was metallica's version though.
Bummer, no Whiskey in the Jar.

Is this a full on World Tour-ish game with the ability to play all instruments or just gitrs?
It's a full band game.

As others have said, it's because this is based on World Tour Engine, so it's a full band game, Not just Guitars.

I'm not ashamed to admit that I preordered just for the kick pedal. Hopefully it'll work with Rock Band drums, even if it doesn't differentiate between the two kicks.
As others have said, it's because this is based on World Tour Engine, so it's a full band game, Not just Guitars.
Yeah! Besides, if you're playing GUITAR HERO METALLICA, it would just be silly if you had to switch discs to play one of the band's biggest songs.

Ah, I should have thought of that. Well that's cool then I guess. I wonder if they're going to chart it differently for guitar/bass or keep it the same.

That's a good question. either way people are going to be upset. :) I'm in the leave it alone camp. I'd like to have some advantage picking up a guitar again. Also it just seems like they would be saying "we messed up!" the first time.

They might change the charting. Neversoft's charting has improved as they go along, so I would assume they at least put through the same testing process they do the rest of the songs.
