Guitar Hero wIII - Thread of Bitchin' Friend Codes and Killer Graphics
Quick question

With the 50 other games I just got I haven't been able to play GH online much. I tried the other day - and I was led to believe you could set the difficulty setting for strangers match so you can play people of the same level

"Strangers matches let you play against random people. When searching for games, there are options to filter for game types and difficulty levels you want to see. You can create a game yourself if you're having no luck finding one. The different difficulty settings will ensure that you find players that are on the same level as you, making for some very competitive, and very fun, online games" (from an online review)

But it seems that no matter what I do - setting the difficulty to easy or medium, whenever someone joins my game they throw their difficulty to hard or expert. So I spend the entire song looking like a retard with easy while the person I'm playing is going nuts on hard or expert.

Am I setting up the game wrong or am I just doomed to a life of online embarassment?
I think this only happens if you set your game to Unranked. If you play a ranked game with easy then you'll only play against people who have the same settings.

The only problem is that it is really hard to find a ranked easy game. I think we're both then doomed to to a life of embarrassment.

Ah good to know

Well at least I know I'm not the only one! You got a friend in me lol
Shit, I love playing on Easy, I'm with you guys. My pinky is allergic to the blue fret.
AND HOW!!!

My biggest complaint is that yes I can't do more than 3 notes but I can do those 3 fast and a lot! I wish easy could be a little faster with some more notes. I can hit green, red, and yellow! So keep them coming. I don't like playing a song with a basic beat and only being allowed to hit every other note.

Plus I get into the rhythm of the song and want to strum at the right time but there isn't a note half of the time.

But alas I shouldn't complain - it is called easy lol

I really wish the difficulty system was more granular. It would be nice if there was a way to use all the fret buttons on Medium for example. I started the game on Hard since I made it through all of the GH1 songs on Hard, and I'm up to the last boss battle, but I'll admit I barely passed the songs in the last tier. If I could have a Medium mode that used all of the frets, it would probably be a more rewarding experience in the end.

Let be add an amen as well. Thus far my multiplayer experience has been limited to co-op with friends for just this reason. I'd rather play on easy or medium and enjoy myself than to half fucking kill myself trying to go up against someone in expert!

All right I need some major help

I got a new HDTV during Black Friday and now I can't play GH3!

The lag is now making the game impossible to play! We've calibrated the thing for 2 hours straight and nothing. You can KIND OF play it if you know how to play guitar for real and mimic the song - but the beat dots are WAY off.

I keep reading online that for some HDTV owners there is no fix for this at all, while for others calibrating it worked just fine.

Any help please?

When playing non-HD games on HDtvs, specifically LCDs, there can be a half second delay what you see vs what you press. I forget the exact details but its something like the picture is processed too fast or too slow since the TV is capable of such a high resolution and thats what creates the delay.

Anyway, see if the TV has a Game Mode, that fixes the problem I had when playing the PS2 GH on an LCD. I know Samsung and Sony TVs have such modes, not sure if other brands do so. If it doesn't have a game mode, see if you could change the TV settings to 480p and that should help.

Well no go on the game mode. I'm using component cables on the Wii so whenever I switch to the Wii my TV display in the corner says 480p - so I guess I'm just SOL

Do the points in career mode make a difference? Like, if I get so many points overall does something happen?

Just beat the game in Easy mode. Granted, this is my first Guitar Hero game. Mega fun.

No the total points really do not mean anything in-game. They do impact your ranking on the guitar hero III website though if you are into that.

Actually take a moment to sign up for our official CAG tour group if you haven't checked out the community site yet. Here is the link:

Just to update everyone, we are approaching 150 members in CAG and holding in the top 20 on the Overall Tour Group Rankings. We also have some bragging rights as we are the Tour Group with the most Match Wins! Very nice!

Quick question:

I've never had to do a reissue/recall of anything before.

I'm assuming you have to send activision some form of proof as in a reciept. I have 1 reciept but that's because it's stapled to the warranty from gameStop. Do you think anyone (GameStop or Activision) will accept photocopies of a reciept so I won't lose it to one company or the other.

Or do you think they will ask for some other form of proof of purchase?

Just curious

There's no way you'll have to send a receipt. I imagine you send them your disc, or part of the manual or something.

I'd assume it would be the manual. Shipping effed merchandise then requiring you to go without it is pretty bad.

When I got a bugged copy of Turok Rage Wars (WAY back), they had me send in my Manual and sent me a new copy... telling me to give the other copy to a friend or to burn it.

The co-op mode was impossible to beat in version 1.0, pretty crappy bug).

Awesome - good to know
Thanks!

I hope all we have to send is the proof of purchase from the manual or something, and not the whole disc. But I'm not holding my breath.

And if we do have to send the disc, I hope they send out pre-paid envelopes. But again, I'm not holding my breath.

I wouldn't think you'd need any proof of purchase, having the game itself is proof you bought it. Also it says at no cost, so I'd imagine they'd just send you a new disc and you send back the old one in a prepaid envelope. You probably have to leave a credit card number for collateral, as with anything where they send you stuff first.

I keep meaning to ask this, as I haven't seen anything specific-- does anyone else get bad distortion when using star power in the Wii version? It sounds like the songs are clipping really badly. I don't know if this has to do with the Wii being insanely loud (if I forget to turn down the volume going from anything to the Wii the Wii is about twice as loud) or if this is part of the overall sound glitch.

Either way, I am very happy they're going to fix the stereo problem.. I was concerned they were just going to blow it off as "good enough". Glad I picked up the Wii version anyway cheap during the TrU B2G1 sale! (it was a calculated risk)

and I think the bigger mistake was having a QA team that couldn't tell stereo from mono in a music game.... yeah, a patch would've been nice, but this is insane that QA was that sloppy, at least on this game, that a patch of this nature would even be required. Of course for all we know it couldn't be realistically patched-- maybe they blew it and shipped with the wrong tracks on the disc or something...
It was a huge mistake, whoever decided that Wii games can't be patched.
Maybe, but one would hope that since they can't be patched developers wouldn't let huge bugs like this through.

Either way, this is excellent news. Hopefully it will also come with the DLC update.

I disagree, the games should be tested before being giving gold master status. Not checking the SOUND seems like a pretty big miss.

Patching games only make sense for massively multiplayer games (no one can really simulate load for large online games). Otherwise do proper testing.

It's pretty much physically impossible to find every bug in a game before it goes gold.
It's also nearly impossible to correctly balance weapons in FPSs, Units in RTSs, and characters in fighting games without having the public play the game. It's impossible to know how people will exploit the game until it is released.

Except...

For a game that's main importance are both visuals and sound. It IS a music game afterall. Flub that up and the whole game can have a problem with timing based off of beats and what not.

I'm not saying that Activision should be forgiven for the mono only sound, that's a huge glitch for a music game. I was just talking about games in general.

I'm glad that they're taking care of this. For the type of game, this was an unforgivable error. Now way around that.

Now, on the note of patches... unnecessary. Games that have online? Certainly, if only to fix exploits that may have been previously undetectable, which make the game less enjoyable online. However, for a standard game, we've had patchless consoles for a long time, and I'm grateful for it. The last thing I want is developers and publishers to have an 'out' for releasing an undercooked game. Finish the game the right way, it shouldn't be an issue.

This is good news, but I'm getting a 360 soon, so I'll just get that version. The extra downloadable content + better graphics + no screwups in the beginning makes it more worth it for me.

It totally blows my mind that they could have gone to manufacturing and not have noticed the sound was MONO??? WTF?!
