Gunbuster OVA

Has anyone here heard of this anime series? I am a fan of neon genesis evangelion so naturally I wanted to seek more of the director, Hideaki Anno's work, Gunbuster was his directorial debut. The ova series just got an american release not long ago, now i feel dumb since I got an import copy, and the picture & sound quality is also worlds better on the rerelease. The series is woefully underrated, alot of my friends who claim they have been into anime for years have not even heard of it... Which is odd.
