Haha! Anyone see SNL?
Doesn't she know she's supposed to knock over the mic stand and then break into '(Whats So Funny 'Bout) Peace, Love, and Understanding?' That is the tradition for flubbed song openings on SNL.
Did Elvis flub up on SNL? What's the backstory to this?

The video is brilliant; regretfully, anyone who still participates in and enjoys the contemporary pop music bandwagon has proven themselves content with mediocrity and is thus too stupid to recognize good music, so I don't imagine there will be a backlash from those who were stupid enough to support Simpson in the first place.

You Have Bad Taste In Music!

Ohh, I missed the performance, but I am d/l now. I tend to watch SNL only for their mock presidential debates, but just as it ended Read or Die was coming. I have to agree with Minx - it was quite good, but I was so tired I fell asleep during the last part.
The ONLY reason why I would watch SNL is becuz of Weekend Update. I actually thought Colin Quinn was good. Tina Faye is good too imo, but that guy jimmy does suck. SNL imo is stupid, they aren't funny. They seem to laugh at their own jokes alot. Worse person in there has got to be that guy that plays Mango.

MadTV is 100 times better than SNL.
Mad TV is the dumbest show on the fuckin planet. I wish that show never came on the air as I could pull a funnier show out of my ass.

SNL may not be funny anymore, but at least the re-runs still are funny. It is hard to cast a show with talent that will mesh and that the brass at NBC will accept.

and who cares if she messed up? Aside from a very few prominent artists, they all lip-sync. I have not seen the clip nor do I care to, why laugh at someone during one of their most embarassing moments?

That's why they're called "embarrassing moments!" Duh.
That was the funniest thing I have seen in a long time. I hope this creates a backlash against all the lip synching pop musicians. Isn't this what killed Milli Vanilli? I am going to show this to all the pop loving girls I know.
Girl you know its, girl you know its, girl you know its, girl you know its....

:)

If she wasn't so fucking hot, I'd definitely be upset, but they have some sort of way of avoiding punishment though their looks.

Hell, I'd still do her.

Are you serious? It is only the talentless hacks in the music business that lip-sync.
This is actually the first time I've seen Ashlee Simpson do her songs or anywhere. Usually it's just a picture of her face or something, but what look is she going for?

I think she's going for the drunk hillbilly look.

Someone at SNL was tippin' the Bacardi last night.
If you were paying attention during the first performance, you heard two
vocal tracks during the first few seconds. Then they cut her mic and went to the tape.
The entire show was a disaster. That ghost of Babe Ruth bit was horrible.

Agreed, Bear City wtf was with that. If it wasnt for the fact that they actually used real buildings i would have sworn they were just improving for time after her screw up.

that bear city skit was weird, which is why it was kind of good. they didn't just do another safe skit with the "zinger" guy or yet another bush or kerry skit. those are boring and very unfunny. they should do more stuff like "bear city".

lol...

someone is getting fired... I bet that's the last lipsync for a while at SNL...that was total crap and she is a freakin bitch for ditching her band...It seemed like her band was happy she left though...the guitarist actually looked like he was smirking

Most artists lip synch.....Uh no. I will second Tromack here, besides the pop "entertainers" who dance more than sing, most musicians across all genres still sing/rap/yell live. Otherwise what the hell is the point in seeing them live, unless you just want to ogle the girls.

That was classic! She starts dancing around like a bufoon and then she walks off the stage. It was the funniest part of an otherwise weak SNL

She is supposed to be on for a "live" performance tonight at Radio City. This should be televised. I wonder if they will talk about the SNL thing during it.

Did Elvis flub up on SNL? What's the backstory to this?
In 1977 Elvis started to play "Less Than Zero" then stops the band and tells them to play "Radio, Radio" which is probably not the song a big media enterprise like NBC wanted to hear since it rails against corporate radio. He was banned from SNL after that until 1989. It was a nice moment of Elvis biting the hand that feeds him and sticking it to the man.

Here's a site with an in-depth look at that incident.

More like you can't do the Weekend Update with Jimmy Fallon. Or with Tina Fey for that matter. Weekend Update was great...when it was Chevy Chase doing it. Norm McDonald was pretty good, too.

Yes, I heard about tonight recently in the news. It's going to haunt her for awhile - I've seen it mentioned on CNN and in the newspaper.

Hilarious. I just saw the clip on AOL. Amazing how fast things spread over the internet. Whats with the dance, though? Even if she realized something was wrong, she could have done something more sensible than a half chicken/strut/bounce thing.

Me three (cheap, I know).

They need to have more of those "studies show..." bits that play off commonly used new terms.

Guess she figured she couldn't look like any more of an idiot so she took the opportunity to do a little dance.

shes doing the "hoe down" kinda ironic from someone who looks like the $10 version.

To me, the last good season was with Adam Sandler, Chris Farley, Phil Hartman, Mike Meyers, etc. While by no means the best cast, definately the last one to have original characters and the show wasn't made up of overused catch phrase after overused catch phrase.

I'm pretty sure it was a mistake about the song titles because he was banned from the show for the next 12 years.

I can't find a link to it, but someone has made a simpson-remix.avi...if you can find it, check it out - hilarious!! It starts with the now infamous flub and then when she starts dancing, the Benny Hill theme starts playing and they speed up her hoe down - I damn near choked on my tongue I laughed so hard.

I also heard that now she is saying that her doctor told her to lip synch because she lost her voice due to acid reflux, and that she has never lip synched before. What a load of crap.

I have a real problem with all of this!

First of all, I do find it funny how she looked like an ass on SNL.

BUT

Most performers like her do lipsync to some extent, beacuse they are running around on stage doing a dance routine, and they get out of breath, so it is there to kinda 'catch' them. I've you've ever seen someone like Madona or Britney perform on tv (not that I like that stuff), you see how they are running around all over the place. So it is common practice to have your own vocals in the background.

Problem here was, she probably wasn't gonna run around like that. If she is anything like her sister, she can't dance. Also, the vocals came in SO LOUD (louder on the original east coast feed), that you wouldn't have heard her singing. Also, SNL cued up the wrong song (if it is true they started playing the first song she already sang). She could have handled it better, and not blamed the band...but if the music that started playing was from the song before, then it SOUNDS at first like the band is playing the wrong song. The vocals thing...well, they(SNL) should have cut the backgorund tape bfore those came in.

Another problem I have is I SAW THIS ON THE NEWS! Why??? And they made a big deal about her lypsyncing. I'm sure the sound technichains at SNL have seen a hundred or so artists who use a background of their own vocals.
I also heard that now she is saying that her doctor told her to lip synch because she lost her voice due to acid reflux, and that she has never lip synched before. What a load of crap.
AGREED'd to the FOURTH. Jimmy Fallon, IMO, was the worst thing to happen to Weekend update and in particular SNL as a whole in the show's history. Everybody makes such a big deal about the guy but I can't stand him. He's just horrible. Plain and simple Horrible. Period. End of Story. There have been others like him that have been pretty bad (i.e.e Molly Shannon) but at least they were bearable. This guy isn't even funny. He's like fart joke funny/clumsy funny but can't pull it off, when he does it just seems like he's brain dead/retarded (hate to say it).

I also heard that now she is saying that her doctor told her to lip synch because she lost her voice due to acid reflux, and that she has never lip synched before. What a load of crap.
Heard that too. Shes a lying sack of shit. I hope her whole "carrer" falls off. I can't stand liars especially if she is trying to blame this on her band first, SNL second, and now her docter and acid reflex.
And finally, Agreed. I can't believe that she when it was her fault blamed it all on the band. Sad.
I also heard that now she is saying that her doctor told her to lip synch because she lost her voice due to acid reflux, and that she has never lip synched before. What a load of crap.
Priceless.

Honestly, its not so much that she lip-synchs and made the mistake on SNL. Its the fact that she's trying to blame it on other people that amuses me.

I just love how she said is was acid reflex.
There's no such thing as acid reflex. Its acid reflux!!
Someone must have told her before the interview to say that.

'60 MINUTES' CAMERAS CAPTURED ASHLEE SIMPSON INCIDENT FROM BACKSTAGE AT 'SNL'
Thu Oct 28 2004 15:43:44 ET

When Ashlee Simpson ran off the "Saturday Night Live" stage last week after her lip-sinc flap, 60 MINUTES cameras were there to record her embarrassing exit and the reaction from show creator Lorne Michaels and other shocked staff members of the show. The exclusive behind-the-scenes footage of the incident will be part of a Lesley Stahl report about the making of the venerable comedy program to be broadcast on 60 MINUTES Sunday, Oct. 31 (7:00-8:00 PM, ET/PT) on the CBS Television Network.

This should be good!
