Halo 2.5 really is coming

My Manager(Not asshat middleage district manager, few years older than me cool and knowledgable manager) at GameCrazy told me this today, that it's from a bungie sell-sheet type document he was able to spy at one of his higher up meetings showed an expansion to halo 2 being released within 6 months. Also downloadable content starts Febuary 9th.

Apparently it will close up the story a bit more, but there are plans to make the halo series into 7 total games (duh, it's bungie, everything comes in 7s)

I'm going to believe this for now, It won't be called halo 2.5, but I really doubt bungie spent 3 years building such sophisticated tools and online play to use it in only one game.. Halo fans have something more to get excited about..

I HERD FROM A GUY WHO KNOWS THIS GIRL who has a boyfriend who works at McDonalds that knows this guy who knows this dog who's owner knows this chick that knows this kid who's dad works for bungie and he said that he saw Master Chief pass out at 27 flavors last night.. must be pretty serious.

He also said that without proof, this post sucks.

You are a fucking retard. Did you just read up on Bungie's legacy in a the cliff notes? Jesus christ.

Marathon = Trilogy
Pathways = Single
Myth = Trilogy
Oni = Single

And who wants to bet you haven't even heard of Gnop, Minotaur or Operation Desert Storm? Shit, you probably don't even know Pimps at Sea.

Halo is a trilogy. Not seven games, you god damn asshat.
And Myth III wasn't even Bungie.
That's right. It was part of the storyline but wasn't developed by Bungie. Great game, though.

I'm gonna be pissed if this Halo 2.5 really happens. I either want a fullfledged sequel or nothing at all. This would be ridiculous if they throw out the same game 6 months later just with a new ending tagged on because they left it as a cliffhanger, especially if they tried to charge full price for it again.

I agree. What kind of retarded shit is this? Anyone can claim they know someone who works at Bungie or knows the owner of EB Games or blah blah blah. Until I see Bungie announce it, I don't believe it.

just passing along what I was told.. and this guy isn't one to spout just any bullshit. I think it's a great idea, use the engine you've created for more single player, why not? Im not saying it's fact, we'll see what happens, just very interesting.

And I am not a Bungie newbie, I've played all the marathon games (Via Aleph One and the mac action sack) and just recently picked up Myth on ebay.. Never played them way back when, but I've never owned a mac and never been a big pc gamer.. oh and oni just sucks. By the way, Halo is practically a continuation of the marathon trilogy, what with all the connections and such, but you would know that already, wouldn't you?

I'd have to look and see which one it was (either Game Informer, Xbox Magazine or EGM), but one of the game magazines I subscribe to did mention something about a Halo 2.5.... they said it would probably be called Halo 2 Director's Cut or Special Edition or some such crap... but the whole thing was that it would be released for Xbox 2. Reason being that they wanted a big name title at launch but they wouldn't be able to have a Halo 3 done by then... plus there is talk of no backward compatibility in the Xbox 2 (which is just stupid) which would make 1 more reson why they might want to pull something like this. I wouldn't see why they would have any real reason to release any other flavor of Halo 2 for this version of the xbox. I do hope for more cool downloadable content very soon though. That would be nice.

Bungie was independent then. Also, Halo is bigger and more popular than all of those games combined. MS tells bungie what to do and as long as Halo name sells, they'll be sequels.

Then if you add then all up and take off the one bungie didnt make that's 7!!!!!1!

I've heard they figured out a way.. but if they didn't, I guess I can look forward to the massive amount of money I can make selling my XBox with 90+ games.

Why not keep them? Or sell some of them to pay for the Xbox 2?

You could still keep your Xbox if it isn't backwards compitable.

I heard a lot of talk about a Halo 2 Directors Cut to be released with the Xbox2. But nothing about a Halo 2.5 for the Xbox 1.

From what I've heard the Halo 2 DC will add a bit more to the story and give it a much better ending. add some more Multiplayer maps and Fix the bugs. BUT its for the Xbox 2. Which makes sense right now there really isn't much in the line up for the Xbox 2 launch. (I know we still have a year) and if the want to insure a huge hit title but can't get Halo 3 out in time a Halo 2 Directors Cut would be the next best thing.
Ahh, that sig cracks me up. I wonder how the first person to do that discovered it?
I was the first to do it! At least I think so, I never ever saw anyone else do it. Don't know how I discovered it though.

I expect that they will have a download in March or April that will not be free. Call that 2.5 or whatever but it is all bullshit that I have to pay to download stuff that I am already paying for Xbox Live.

Anyway there will be a Halo 3 however it is coming to the next Xbox not this one! They must have a Halo 3 on the new Xbox in order to get the fans to buy the new system at launch.

Wow...you strike again... Myth was one of the most famous and renowned games of its time... Marathon did the same. It was the first FPS to have a 3d environment, Im not sure it may have even been the first game to have a 3d environment. Halo did nothing ground breaking like these games did. Halo 2 did nothing that hasnt been done. IMO these games were a million times better and were just as popular when they came out as Halo...except they actually were groundbreaking.

Only difference is, more than 5 people played Halo.

Marathon was great for all 2% of the computer userbase that owned a Mac.

I bought Marathon the day it came out.

Wow...lets start a Mac bashing topic...more than 2% of the population owned a mac...and Marathon was more groundbreaking than Doom was. Doom rendered 2d to look 3d but never actually made a 3d environment...Lets not bash Macs...This topic is about Bungie/Halo...not your opinions biased or not on Macs.

Here's a medal. I was probably around 8-9 years old when that game came out. Congratulations for being born first.

I bet Halo 2 sold more than Marathon and Myth combined. The game business is a business. The main component of sequels is the money made. And you're an idiot if you think otherwise.

The Gaming market has grown since then...comparing numbers wouldnt be accurate because since then more and more people have started playing, so there for the numbers could never add up. Myth and Marathon were just as popular even if the market wasnt as big...PC gaming was did not have as large of a user base as it does now. If you do not think that those games had a HUGE impact on the gaming world as we know it now then you sir are the idiot.

I think I read the same thing in a newsbit in GameInformer like 2 months ago. Some company has the emulating software that supposedly could be incorporated in Xbox 2 to allow backward compatiability, but whether the software works well enough to actually perform this task or if Microsoft is actually interested in it is still up in the air.
Well I hope if this Halo 2.5 does come out that they don't charge $50 for it.
depending on what exactly it is

like I mean not just a couple more levels they could charge 60 and people would buy it

I have enough gamerush credit so i'm fine :)

Come on dude, Myth was a great game, I loved it, I even beta tested Myth II...yeah they were good but no way near as POPULAR as Halo, at the time Warcraft II was much much more popular. I would say the original doom/wolfenstein were of equivalent popularity as Halo for the game industry back then (when it was much smaller). Again I'm not saying that they weren't good games (maybe even better than the Halo series), but they were no where near as popular as Halo is even given the different markets.

Completely pointless topic deserves a completely pointless post...

What great proof you have!

Halo will be mad einto like 100 game, it will just be like the FF series, only better.

First of all, I didn't bash the Mac. The Mac has a userbase of 2-5%, its been that way for years, even when Marathon was out. It's not an insult to say a lot of people, especially PC gamers, don't own Macs - its fact.

Second of all, to say Marathon was more groundbreaking than DOOM is just ridiculous. Just because you like the Mac doesn't mean you need to be fanatical about it.

Im not a fanatic...all doom did was render 2d to LOOK 3d but Marathon was the first game (if i remember correct) to have a 3d environment

you have to admit that marathon was more revolutionary then doom. The story integration, AI that fought alongside the player, and multiplayer options were beyond anything. Metroid Prime even borrows from Marathon with its scanning of terminals to tell the story.. marathon did almost exactly that.

Marathon is the GREATEST FPS EVER!!!

Sadly its because of Marathon that I haven't been to happy with Halo. I keep compairing the two and Marathon is just so much better. Even to this day thanks to Marathon Apleph One I still play it. Its one of the few games that stood the test of time.

I would really like to see Bungie port Marathon over to the Halo engien. And do a Re-Release.

just had to get my two cents in. =P

Im sure the Xbox 2 will be powerful enough to emulate the Xbox. Besides, if the Xbox 2 is backwards compatable then they will continue to sell tons of copies of Halo 2, which will make Microsoft very happy.

Doom was the game that developed many of the programming techniques that are still used in 3D game programming. Their algorithm for choosing which surfaces to render from a 3d environment (and Doom's environment, although not "true 3d", was modelled in 3 dimensions) is an algorithm that is still used in FPS games today. Don't remember the exact name of it, since it's been over a year since I took a graphics course, but Doom was pretty huge in the world of games and graphics, whereas Marathon never gets mentioned in a study of such topics.
