Halo 3 or COD4

shaveice

CAGiversary!
I'm looking into getting one (I traded my Halo 3 [for GH2] earlier and felt it was the same ol' Halo 2 with a graphical lift). I figure COD4 is getting better reception and I should go with that, but I've been fighting the fact that I like longevity in my games. If I grab COD4, I'll probably throw it out for COD5, whereas Halo 3 would be used sproadically for the remaining XBOX360 life. Regardless of my situation, I was just wondering which title do others like better.

Lame... I have both and if you're a real fan, you'd have both too. This is just flamebait buddy.

You're going to throw out CoD4 for CoD5? So will everyone else. You seriously can't come up with another 60 bucks in about 1-2 years? And Talk about longevity, both game have unlimited longevity so I don't know what you're talking about.

In my opinion both Halo 3 and COD4 are extremely similar to their prequels. COD4 gets the benefit of taking place in a new setting, but I found it very similar to the games that came before it, although the same can be said of Halo 3 as well.

I played halo3 religiously since it came out, and then on monday i bought COD4. Bye bye halo 3, you are now a dust collector. Ive been playing COD4 since the beta so this is something ive been dying to be addicted to. Already beat the amazing single player campaign and i can't stop playing the multiplayer

Don't play much multiplayer? The Create-a-class function in CoD4 is revolutionary.

Halo 3 all the way. Good singleplayer, great multiplayer, great matchmaking system (which actually puts you against people your skill level). Also, multiplayer offers so much more customization than COD4. More customization = endless gametype possibilities.

Not saying that COD4 is bad, because it's not, but it certainly has less options (no theater, forge, huge custom game setting customization). It does however have class customization (perks and whatnot), which Halo lacks.

The hype around Halo 3 ended up being unjustified. I felt they really dropped the ball in certain aspects of the SP and the ending was a copout. MP is fun but I think they put entirely too much into crap like Forge, that I will never use.

COD4 has surpassed every single expectation. I did not play the beta so I had nothing to base it on going in. The SP is easily the best FPS SP this year, and probably the best of the entire franchise. The MP is deep and is tons of fun as well. The minor complaint is the length, but on the higher difficulty modes it takes a LOT longer to complete and it actually has a lot of replay value trying different strategies in certain areas.

Both are solid games, but I think COD4 has more to it.

cod4 is a much better, more detailed game. the only thing it's lacking is the online coop, that would make the game so much more, imo. halo was a huge disappointment, they spent all that time to make halo 2 (again) with slightly better graphics and worse maps. cod4 multiplayer is just a win all around, would have liked some mp achievements though. oh well..dlc.

edit: the one thing i would disagree with the last poster on is that the sp surpasses any game this year. bioshock was far more immersive and mass effect has yet to come out. well, at least for me it hasn't ;)

If you made of list of each games features, Halo wins hands down. But I find CoD4 to be more fun to play overall. Both great games, but if I had to choose one, I'd go with CoD.

You need to run this poll when CoD4 isn't quite so new anymore. If the release dates were reversed and Halo 3 was riding the new release wave, it would be running away with this.

Halo 3 wins. I've "only" played the PC CoD4 (which is probably better anyway), but I can't see myself playing it in 4 or 5 months. Halo 3 has a much longer life ahead of it, guaranteed.
Trick question. Team Fortress 2 is the correct answer.
Agreed. Irate scotsman blowing shit up defeats both Master Chief and modern warfare.
Trick question. Team Fortress 2 is the correct answer.
Exaclty. That's a game people will still be playing in 5 years (although mostly on the PC).

I didnt really like TF2. COD 4 is overall a better game imo. I bought Halo 3 day one and was really bored after about a week. The maps in Halo 3 are awful compared with COD4. And Cod 4 has a much better sp.

Couldn't have said it any better.

Go for CoD4! When Halo 3 came out I was impressed at first with the multi-player, never got into the single player. However, I quickly grew tired of the maps. Halo 3 really needs a map pack. The reward system in CoD 4 really adds to the game and the "just one more match" syndrome.

I think Halo 3 has lost its hype, sure it was the greatest thing "OMG (Insert orgasm here)" when it came out, but the whole thing is just really dissapointing. The matchmaking system that everyone says is so great and amazing didnt intrest me in the slightest, it annoyed the crap out of me...i should be able to choose which game id like to play when i want to play it, and not wait for hours for the game type i like to show and then have majority veto it out of existence, it was a major Shit on the game.

The Maps are all very open and nice, but after a couple of play through's it gets repetitive and stale, the graphics were nice and clean but whats the point of it its all just open sky and ground and random buildings and junk thrown about? i dont even think the new DLC could help its variety, Even the whole Zombie playlist on halloween felt kinda tedious, and i loved that game type and even then Bungie wont give it out as a regular playlist, even with all the great reception towards it.

The four player Co-op is great fun, for those regular gamers that actually have friends that they play regularly with online, everyone else that doesnt have a friends list with active friends miss out on the Co-op oppurtunities, since i havent found a way for a random person looking for online co-op to play along like (Via Gears of war random Co-op).

I was never a big halo fan in the first place, never understood the hype, while everyone had an Xbox and playing Halo and Halo 2, i was playing my PS2 and online play never occoured to me at all, i was lucky to get a friend to have some fun with me playing NBA Street on the weekends. Ive played Halo 1, for a month it took me to beat the game on lengendary...and i tought it was horrible, the storyline was thin as wafer, and the levels were all so repetative and bland and over and over again it was the same level. Ive played halo 2 and found the storyline a bit more fleshed out and much more engaging thanks to the Arbiter levels, and did an even better job getting rid of all the repetive quality that halo 1 had and the online MP introduced me to the most horrible "groundbreaking Matchmaking system"...(almost) Halo 3...just reminded me of Halo 2, except for the kickass warthog level at the end, which is still fun as hell.

Overall, I have way more Fun with COD4 beta, than i did playing Halo 3.

I haven't played COD4 yet but I don't think i would like it if it plays anything like COD2 or COD3. There has always been way too much sniping/camping in the Call of Duty series for my taste.

I'm also firmly against this perk crap I've heard about. Unlockable clothing is fine, but having a more powerful character just because you have played more is completely lame. Everyone should be on equal footing. If the armor in Halo 3 would have made a shield difference I would have probrably just stopped playing.

But, like i said, I haven't played COD 4 yet so i need to give it a try.

Right now COD4 is better but I see halo 3 outlasting it if/when they fix the overpowered melee and emphasis on AR and put out some decent maps and variety in matchmaking.

Overall though I see TF2 lasting longer than all of them, that's why I opted for it on PC rather than 360.

Both. CoD4 has a very unique and enjoyable multiplayer rpg-lite thing going for it, Halo 3 has an incredible 4 player coop mode. I can't really vote for one over the other.
You're going to throw out CoD4 for CoD5?
COD4 is just the "right now" game. When Battlefield Bad Company & Frontlines Fuels of War release at the first of 2008 then the COD series & probably by then COD4 will not even be a thought in my mind.

Plus, IDK how much farther they can push the COD series. Modern Combat was the next logical step but what's next COD5 Futuristic Warefare?

I totally agree.

Halo 3 needs atleast 2-3 new "free" maps. IMO the best maps were the beta maps Snowbound, High Ground, & Valhalla, which I burnt myself out on those during the beta.

Same here. I couldn't get into Halo the way that alot of others gamers did. I was more into Battlefield 2, Star Wars Battlefront, Rainbow Six, & Far Cry during Halo 2's hype. In other words I like the variety of playing different games instead dedicating myself to just one game.

I voted for halo 3 u can dual, drive and rip off the turrent which changes your view to like gears of war. COD4 single player was very good, friendly fire is your worst enemy in this game.

you mean "no" friendly fire, right? Try the multiplayer on hardcore. It's alot of fun especially since there is no reticles, radar, with team killing, & etc with real gun damage.

From a single player point of view COD4 dominates H3. But the multiplayer is much closer. I do like H3 choices for customizing the look of your character and changing the maps all around, but the gameplay still feels to much like halo 2 for me. Cod4 is the good old COD multiplayer with a whole new twist with perks, tons of guns, and a ranking system which actually determains you choices in the game. Both were very well done, but COD4 all the way.

Halo 3 is fun and I enjoy multiplayer but CoD 4 is SOOOO much better. I just enjoy the realistic shooter over fantasy land. Plus they nailed the exp building online system it's addictive as hell. So many times i've been ready to log off and then notice i'm xxx away from a level up or xx away from a gun upgrade and bam another hour+ has passed. Halo never had me by the balls like that...

Got this on tuesday and i'm already at 19 hours played online. Haven't touched single player yet....

COD4. Halo 3 was overrated hype. COD4 brings it hard from every aspect - story, play control, strategy and tactics, weaponry, and an incredibly satisfying ending. It's also quite possibly the best looking game I've ever played.

Gotta go with the crowd on this one. Halo 3 is fun, and I definitely enjoyed it, but COD4 is much more addictive. I understand how some might like the even footing Halo 3 brings, but I like the fact that COD4 gives you upgrades to work for (functional, not just appearance). It gives incentive to keep playing.

Co-op would have been a nice addition though, as well as the ability to bring guests into Live. So Halo has COD beat in that department.
