Halo: Reach
Has anyone had any issues lately with friends on the menu not showing their ranks? It used to show them all, but lately it doesnt and i have to highlight them to have their ranks load. Then later when i go back they are gone again. They just have a -- instead of their rank icon.

Well here is an updated picture of my spartan.

Yeah i made it to Lt. Colonel, been playing the hell out of this game. From now on no more gruntpocalypse for me. I got what i wanted, now ill just play for fun. Bought the black visor, and kat robot arm. One cool thing i unlocked was the Emile helmet, and you can change the color of the visor too, while the skull stays white. But you cant buy it until you are a commander. I think it was 75,000 credits.
I've seen a delay when you tab over to see the player's name bar and Spartan. Sometimes the rank takes a few seconds to load. I'd imagine with the increasing number of players the server might be having some issues.

Wow...Lt. Col, and I thought I played the hell out of this game. I got Major today, though it seems the higher officer ranks beyond Warrant Officer (worst uphill cR battle ever) it's rather easy to get from one to the next. Nice pic. I bought the EVA helmet, doesn't look as spanky with the Blue visor unfortunately. The EVA helmet (or Emile's) certainly does help your Spartan look more female though. Cool beans.

How much was the arm?? And this might be a stupid question, but a male saprtan model can have the arm too right?
the grenade launcher is misunderstood, it will 1 shot kill most anything or anyone if you hit them center mass in MP. I actually liked the challenge since it forced me to figure out how you use it properly, now I love the wpn. besides, the challenge was kill what...10 enemies in FF? seriously that's barely the 1st wave of grunts.
The thing can barely kill a grunt. Its horrible. I dont get why they changed it from the beta when it was actually useful.

What? I can kill a good group of Grunts with it.

The grenade launcher works fine. I finished the 20 kill challenge in about 2 minutes on Firefight. Just shoot it as soon as reinforcements jump down from a drop ship and you can kill everyone (other than Hunters and Elites of course).
It counted as a suicide for him.
I love the armor lock as well, once a grenade bounced off my armor lock and hit one of the guys teammates on the other side of me and it counted it as a betrayal. Sure enough one guy booted the other and then it was 4 vs 3.

More people are starting to learn to stand back with I hit armor lock than before. I love it though for when you face opponents that want to grenade spam, try to go on sword sprees or do the whole gunning while running straight at you to melee. That and the hologram are awesome. I'm not sure why anyone uses the jetpack or sprint.

I agree about the jetpack as I haven't seen it be too useful yet. Not bad in the midship remake and ivory towers, but aside from that. But sprint I disagree. Usually it's pointless, but it's been helpful for me when playing headhunter.

But armor lock can be awesome yes. I had a guy try sticking me with a plasma grenade only to stick himself with it.

A couple questions about the story...

What happened to the Brutes and Bugs in Halo 1? I didn't expect them to show up in this game. Also, is there any sort of explanation about the new Covenant weapons? The end of Reach leads right into the beginning of Halo 1, correct? Seems odd they'd stop using certain weapons in such a short span. Of course, the answer could just be, it's a game, get over it ;)

Jetpack I haven't found useful at all in competitive play...just makes you an easier target, from what I've seen. Everything else I can see a use for.

Was just sort of keeping a friend company last night because he was going for that Kill-50-On-Holdout challenge yesterday, I had gotten it earlier in the day. I am not exaggerating when I say it took nearly 4 hours of play for him to get it, because we somehow only got Holdout three times that whole time...and of course on one of them he accidentally killed a guy with a rocket and was immediately booted.

Sprint is really powerful. You are nuts if you don't realize how sprint shotgun/sword is insane. It's good all the time for escaping alive, making you tough to snipe, enabling double-melee, and taking huge jumps.

Grenade launcher is pretty awesome, I use it all the time to insta-kill opponents. Works great with the jetpack. The jetpack is necessary on The Cage as far as I'm concerned. I was playing a map this weekend where jetpack was so powerful that I was forced to create a gametype Slayer -Jetpack to keep the map fun. Jetpack + needler is a tough opponent to defeat, and he has the added bonus of being immune to nade spam (which accounts for 30% of Reach's kills it seems).

bounce the grenade to the location of the enemies, it will denonate and kill everyone in the blast radius that would normally die to a single grenade. Aside from some armored brutes and elites it will kill most any group of covi's. Shoot for center mass when you're aiming in MP otherwise it has a tendency to bounce between the legs of most players who like to hop around.

when the grenade challenge was up, I did the whole FF w/it. I only had to move around a bit when the room filled with grunts and/or elites but it worked just as fine as any wpn just with a bigger punch.

Yeah, I'm a big fan of the spring ability not the phone company. Closing the gap between you and the guy who is about to get donkey punched is so worth it. Some abilities half the time you forget or can't use in time to be as effective as you'd wish. Sprint, you'll always need and it's also good practice since it's in all classic matches and swat games. I'm still not confident with Jet-packing in MP but I've seen ppl dominate with it just to be able to scout and tell their team where they spotted potential targets. Also as mentioned ^, death from above w/a needler is virtually unavoidable.

I may just not be using it the right way. Personally I'd rather have armor lock because as soon as I see a guy with a sword shotgun running towards me I can lock. Then while they're distracted waiting for my lock to disengage someone else usually takes them out or I can lock->melee->lock in between their swings/shots.

I do that. Its easier to kill an actual person in multiplayer with it.

and look I got kills with it and even some multikills but I should be able to kill a grunt with my eyes closed. Its just too weak.

I think the new book with the extra content may address the Brutes and Bugs, but not the Covie weapons?

If I remember correctly, the Brutes and Bugs were part of the Covenant even early on, they just weren't introduced until H2?

The way I see it...

Allocation of Covenant resources is much like the way real-life military does things and they were spread so thin during the war that not all units and weapons were sent everywhere.

I think it was 75,000, after you bought the original chest armor of the same kind for about 8,000. Yes i was able to change my character to a man with the arm on.
If anyone is interested in setting something up for the weekly challenge (finish any campaign mission on Legendary in co-op), I'm in.
heh, I actually did this earlier w/a 2nd controller since my buddies were at work. while your 2nd controller local profile can't complete challenges you still get credit and cR for it.

I feel like an idiot, I could have done that with yesterday's daily Oni challenge >.

So my roommate and I went to do the Legendary co-op challenge. We did the 2nd mission, using the hug-the-right-wall-and-sprint method. When we got the part where you have to defend the troopers held up in the house, then something strange happened. The incoming Covenant drop ship knocked a Falcon out of the sky. I ran over and got in the pilot seat and flew around taking out the remaining Covenant waves. Of course, we were unable to progress after that since we couldn't follow the scripted path in the Falcon. It was still a fun few minutes of enjoying a weird event.
Wow that was awesome. did you know he had rockets, or was that just random?

also dont people get hurt if they touch you while in that shield mode? I usually always pick speed run, but i might try to use the shield more.
When the lock breaks it lowers peoples shields in the radius or can kill them if they are low on health without a shield.

I played one match of firefight and didnt get 1 assists during the whole game. Im supposed to get 10 assists today for the daily challenge. It wouldnt be so bad if the lag wasnt so obvious. It makes shooting people with the DMR hard because the lag makes your moves so behind. Wish they would fix this, i would probably play it more if they did.

some dailies just aren't worth the trouble. ultimtely it's to earn bonus cR, and if you're finding out that one daily is a bit frustrating...walk away.

Yeah, once you've got the achievements, the daily and weekly challenges aren't really worth worrying over if they're not easy to get, or something you can get while having fun and playing for longer than usual etc.

I knew the jetpack guy had rockets because he just killed some of my teammates. I could hear him coming back for me, so I just timed my armor lock well, so I wouldn't die. Hitting him with his own rocket was icing on the cake.

I might be the only one here, but I personally hate playing things like Arena. I guess it may be just that I'm really just not a competitive kind of guy, but that pressure, man.

I'd rather just play Social, where I know the objective is to...have fun. You don't run into the "YOU'RE SCRUB I'M MLG" people as much as well, which is just an added bonus.

Unfortunately, there is a massively successful game called Call Of duty Modern Warfare 2 which is directed towards people like you.

Halo 2 and Halo 3 were praised for their competitive and simple matchmaking process. Halo reach isn't just a step backwards, it is the destruction of what made ranked play in Halo enticing, and a reworking of Halo into Call of Duty, because that is what sells.

Is there any kind of guide around that helps you with campaign commendations? Like what levels are good for each commendation? I have been addicted to trying to get those.

Right now im trying to get 51 more headshots, and 2 multikills in multiplayer to get to silver and bronze respectively.

I'm laughing inside because you're already Lt. Col w/Cat's helmet and bionic arm but you still seem to be truckin along. Guide for campaign commendations? Just play and kill covi, that'll rack up your commendations. Unfortunately there is no kill counter for commendations that you can toggle on and off during campaign...but in a way, thank goodness. If you beat the game once through, just try and remember what's what and where. There is however no shortage of infantry/grunts in any level. The later levels have a lot more leader class enemies and the mission where you fly the Sabre counts as killing vehicles.

I can tell you this, the Grenade Launcher is considered a hvy wpn. I did a FF mission using only that is it counted as splash.

tbh, I enjoy the variety and competitive nature of MW:2 MP much more than Halo Reach...only thing is more of my friends play Reach and that fellowship trumps prestiging and tiger blue camo on my m-16 imo any day.

Same here. I play games to have fun. I don't sit around all day studying maps, where weapons spawn, trying to get my sensitivity just right, etc. I play games to get away from the stress of daily life.

Easy way to get an assist on ff....Shoot the turret on the Covie drop ship. If you are playing with a good group of players they will also be shooting it. I got like 5 assists in one match today just from the turret. (compared to one game where I got 3 and than one game with 0) This works really well with snipers as the turret is a 2 shot kill.

I'm pretty sure almost everyone plays games to have fun. It just so happens that some people find competition fun.

You don't have to sit around all day studying maps or weapon spawns to remember where they are either.

As for me, I'm kind of bored of Reach already. I don't find any fun in farming pointless credits. The challenges kept me busy for a bit but after they got repetitive I gave up.

I've seen modded controllers on MW:2 that increase your RoF but this just is ridiculous. DMR shouldn't be an automatic wpn w/magnetic bullets. I smells a hack.
