Happy to Stick with Current Gen Gaming...
from what everyone is writing it sounds like the ps2 will be the system to get next year. its going to be the only older console still getting games made for it next year and it sounds liek alot of you didnt do much ps2 gaming the pas few years so youre getting in on it now due to lower console prices and the huge library of games. so in a funny way if this is true the ps3 may not do amazing numbers but sony will still be making tons of money off of the ps2. itd be interesting to see how it outsells the ps3 overall especially when and if more ps3 systems come out.
That seems like the trend from what I have seen in this thread. Granted, it is tempting to get the next system from a company. But people have money invested in the older systems that it hard to let go. They have built up a collection, then playing the backlog of games.
PS2 seems to be the system for at least a year or two until PS3 establishes itself with the gaming masses and gets production up to snuff. Now with the latest issues with backward compatibility and having to "patch" to get them to effectively work, it seems like a hassle from the get go. Xbox is pretty much done and GC is pretty much done as well.
I guess that Wii will possibly be a system that appeals to those gamers that were satisfied with the last-gen but with the new control scheme.
Overall, it is a great time to be a gamer and I agree that this is the golden age of gaming.

I wouldn't be surprised if it outsells Wii even. The PS2 is extremely afordable and it's game lineup is just massive. PS2 support isn't dropping anytime soon. PS2 selling well is good for Sony, since they do profit on every PS2 sold.

If you step back and look at the next generation, I think it's clear that last generation systems are not quite gone.

The Wii is just an extension of the GC which was basically the ideal gaming machine (just couldn't snag the market share).

The PS2 is finally what it should be: an easy to develop for platform with the largest library in history.

PS3 and Xbox 360 are out to meet the high-end gamer's needs.

The question is, will next generation have its PS2, the console that houses most of the best games and has the most versatile library? Who knows.

I'm not getting any of the new systems for a couple of reasons. 1.) Waay overpriced and little return, and 2.) I promised myself that I would stop spending so much time playing games and move on to more productive things.

I realized that I spend alot of my time either playing games are reading up on the on the internet. Time that I could spend on perhaps getting a MS certification or anything more productive. I will probably never stop playing games all together, but still enough is enough. What started as a nice way to spend my time afterschool and weekends has turned to a behemoth of a hobby and the cost involved will at least double with the new generation of systems coming out.

Therefor I came to the conclusion that I could use my time, and money in much better ways. As a matter of fact the newest system I bought was a PSP and even then I'm using it to play Genesis and NES games via emulators almost exclusively.

All this just tells me enough is enough and I'll be more than content playing my PSP on occassion and perhaps a PS2 or XBOX game from time to time.

Maybe if I was younger I would be excited about all these new systems and games, but as it stands I believe my time has come to exit this hobby. I had been trying to for a long time, but I think the money its going to take to tackle another generation was a nice push out.

It was a nice run though.

I tend to agree with you there. It seems like this generation coming is one where it seems like either it is going to cost you a whole bunch of cash or one where companies are going to cash in on games that are "rehash" of older titles. I'm not saying there anen't going to be original games in this upcoming gen, but the likelihood of it happening is very low. I guess companies want to stick to the original formula instead of branching out to new franchises, given the budgets of the newer games.
I guess I will definitely stick it out for awhile on my ps2. Got to go through the backlog of games i did not play.
