Harmony 550 Remote $49.99 @ Bestbuy.com

I have the 360 version.
It seems to loose some commands.
Every few months I have to "re-boot" it.

It is a great remote, but glitchy.

I would not recommend.

I've had the 360 one for about a year, never had any problems whatsoever so far. No glitches, no reboots, no problems with set up, or editing stuff as I've bought new equipment etc.

I love it, and especially that it works with the 360 as I use it a lot for the Netflix stuff now.

So between the 520, 550, and the 670, which would people recommend for my mother who needs extremely simple and has just a DVD player and DVR? Thoughts?

I've never had problems with the Harmony remotes. If they appear "glitchy" it could be low batteries. When they get low, funky things start to happen (slow device response, commands missed, etc.). Otherwise, they work awesome.

$30 for the 520 or $50 for the 550 are both great deals. I have a 520 and the Xbox remote and they both kick ass. I picked up another 520 for my parents for Xmas. I gave them an older Harmony remote that I didn't use anymore, but it doesn't cut the mustard (screen is too small and they don't like the click/scroll wheel).
Everyone here only seems to talk about this remote like it's the best thing since toilet paper. I had the 360 version for my setup, which included a TiVo and before that, a cable DVR along with a VCR for my Sony 46" LCD TV.

It's true that it can do *almost* everything the other remotes do, but what nobody seems to mention is what a pain in the ass it is to navigate through all the friggin screens on the LCD to get to the more advanced functions that you use all the time with a TiVo or a DVR. It's not just a "pick up the remote and press the buttons you need to use" kind of approach.

I don't know what everyone's viewing habits are here, but when I'm watching recorded TV, I don't feel like puzzle-solving on a stupid remote. While I don't have any better alternatives to offer, please be forewarned that this is not exactly the easiest solution since the industrial design sucks ass. It's like it was engineered for engineers, not for consumers. While everyone here is smart enough to navigate through all the screens to get to the right command screens, it's such a shitty interface I can't imagine who would enjoy using this thing for anything other than a backup remote. As for me, I'm still looking for a better solution.
you can easily create macros and/or assign the function keys to do whatever you want.

thats not normal operation. the only time mine ever does unusual stuff is when the batteries need replacing.

My dad picked up one of these for me as a christmas present and it is working great. I've had to play around with it to get things working the way I want, but I'm getting the hand of it.

I just bought the 520 recently for $30. Is this one worth the extra $20?

NVM question answered on previous page.

Imo, no. I'll stay with my 520 for $30.
amazon has the 520 on sale right now for $37.91 plus shipping through Web's Best Deals. just ordered it
Try looking up websbestdeals on Ebay. I, an many other CAGs, just bought the 520 for $30 shipped from them. Mine works great and is virtually identical to the 550, less the extra 6 buttons. For $30 you really can't go wrong with the 520, it's awesome.
