Harry Potter and the HBP($15) & Terminator: Salvation Blu-ray($20) Amazon

I didn't say it was a "good" review, just a review. ;)

4.5 for the movie is more than a bit much. No question there.

Good to see that the PQ and AQ look good on it, at least from their review.

I hear ya' shrike, lol

Should definitely be a head and ear turner though.

And thanks for the tip about the camelcamelcamel add-on, it's fantastic.

So, HP is now $1 cheaper than when I pre-ordered the other day. What are the odds that Amazon actually follows their pre-order guarantee and credit me the dollar back without me having to harrass them about it?

In other news, I'm floored that new release blu-rays (and in this case, blu-ray/dvd/digital copy) are now commonly under $20. For anybody who has held off on jumping to HD, it seems that the prices are now completely on par with their SD predecessors. The fact that a 42" 1080p set can be had for $500-$700, a blu-ray player for $150 or less, and now discs under $20. I see no reason for anybody to not join the party.

100%.

I love how this question keeps popping up in every single Amazon preorder thread.

Don't act like it's not relevant. Have you looked at the Fight Club blu-ray thread?

It's really about 50/50, Amazon seems pretty random about when they decide to honor the price guarantee. Safest is to just email them before it ships so you don't have to beg if they screw up and it isn't applied.

Dang. Why can't they drop Potter 1&2 ultimate editions as well.
Probably because they'll be the only ones carrying them (just a guess).
Oh well.
I am tempted by TS, but I think I'll rent it first.

It costs like $6 to rent a movie, so why not just spend the extra $10 and get to keep it?

These both went back up $1 to $16.99.

And people wonder why we have to keep emailing Amazon to make sure we're getting the lowest price on the items before shipment.

Went to Wal-Mart to pick up TS yesterday, marked $19.96. HP will likely be the same.

Still irks me that they don't price items the same online and in-store.
It's listed on the website for $15.32.
I cancelled my Amazon pre-order for HP and went with WM. After BCB it should come out to around $13.50.

Isn't the Target Price for Harry Potter 15.99, couldn't we use the 5.00 off coupon to make it 10.99? I was just curious as Targets ad for next week hasn't shown up yet, still thinking of canceling my Amazon order.

That's the online price. The add for Target lists it as $19.99 in store.

Has any ones Harry Potter actually shipped? Mine still hasn't yet it claims to be here tomorrow. Or is Amazon just not updating?

I got mine late this afternoon (5 pm EST ish). Was surprised to see it since Terminator came last Tuesday. Still waiting on Public Enemies though.

I love how Amazon waited until after the majority would ship, to drop it another dollar. Atleast, I will get mine today as it finally shipped last night

It is still release day so they have to honor the $15 price for all pre-orders

D'OH can anyone confirm that Target won't match their own websites price today?

Had the same thing happen with Star Trek (Price dropped on release date after my order had already shipped). The next day I had a note from Amazon that a refund for $x.xx was being processed. So, no worries. I'm sure I will get a note overnight indicating a refund for $1.00.

called and got a dollar refund. Took 2 mins, wasn't going to wait around for an email and find out they didn't understand my question, or something stupid like a lot of amazon emails tend to be for me lately.

plus I actually got to speak someone who spoke english :)

I was denied the $1 refund just now via email. Why is good customer service not worth $1 to some of these reps?

Choice quote:

Although prices fluctuate, our service does not. I hope you'll give us another opportunity to serve you in the future.

Actually, I can't think of a single retailer whose service *does* fluctuate more!

Edit: A quick phone call solved that problem. All that work for an extra dollar, heh.

LOL I thought about the same thing for my Donnie Darko blu-ray purchase on Black Friday. Bought it for $10.49, but it dropped to $9.99 a few days later.
Couldn't bring my self to go through the hassle of email/phone to try & get 50 cents back, kinda regret it now though.

Damn.. I called and the lady on the other side said she couldn't price match 14.99 because my HP6 was shipped yesterday. I ordered on BFS 15.99.

I told her the movie is only released today. Her excuse (as if reading from the script) is because it was offered as the lowest possible price at the time before it was shipped, they are unable to price match it.

Grr...:bomb: what excuses did you guy use? Oh damn.. I want that $1 really bad! LOL!

For the link-lazy:
Pre-order Price Guarantee
Amazon.com's price for not-yet-released items sometimes changes between the time the item is listed for sale and the time it is released and shipped. Whenever you pre-order a book, CD, video, DVD, software, or video game, the price we charge when we ship it to you will be the lowest price offered by Amazon.com between the time you placed your order and the end of the day of the release date. A pre-order price guarantee message will appear on your Order Summary during the checkout process. If you use 1-Click ordering, pre-order price protection will be automatically applied. The order summary in Your Account will reflect the lowest price within 24 hours of the price change.
Terms and Conditions:

 • Pre-order Price Guarantee applies only to items sold by Amazon.com, and not to items (or prices) offered by other sellers on our site. Does not apply to any products purchased at Amazon.com's other sites, including Amazon.co.uk, Amazon.de, Amazon.fr, Amazon.co.jp, Amazon.ca, or any other web site operated by Amazon.com or its affiliates.
 • Pre-order Price Guarantee applies only to not-yet-released books, CDs, videos, DVDs, software, and video games sold by Amazon.com. It does not apply to other product lines or to items that have already been released.
 • Pre-order Price Guarantee applies only to qualifying items displaying the offer message on their product detail pages. Items that do not display the offer message do not qualify, regardless of the nature of the items.
 • If your order enters the shipping process before the release date and the price is lowered before the end of the day of the release date, we will automatically refund your credit card for the difference between the price you were charged and the release-date price. If you did not use a credit card to pay for your order, please contact Customer Service.

Said rep you dealt with needs to get their head out of their backside and follow their own policy.

From my email to them:
The price of this item at the time this order shipped was $15.99. Currently, it is $14.99, on the date of release. Per the terms of the Pre-Order price guarantee, this item on this order should be reduced in price to $14.99 and credited back $1 for the difference. Please process this credit back to the purchasing credit card.
Their response:
Hello,

I've checked your order, and the current Amazon.com price for "Harry Potter and the Half-Blood Prince" is $14.99. :D That's funny.

Anyway, I called again.. and yet same girl (or sounded like it again) reading from the same script.

She said the item WAS SHIPPED yesterday and therefore fell out from this pre-order guarantee.

Damn again! :bomb:

Send an email. I always have better luck sending the email. Quote the terms and conditions that Shrike posted.

Wow, I'm on the phone right now with a rep. I think he said his name was "Julio". I'm now on hold for the 2nd time because he first had to check the policy about release day (even though I quoted it to him), and now because he said he "can't find information that today is the actual release day".

I love Amazon, but this shit is retarded. If these kinds of things aren't approved, there is essentially NO incentive to pre-order. Why would anybody commit their business early just to be overcharged?

Wow, on hold a 3rd time because he cannot process the refund on his end. I have to give him some information or something. Since when is Amazon incapable of making a few clicks and...oh, wait. Now he's back and suddenly it's taken care of. Nice, lol.

Damn again! :bomb:
She's obviously stupid as well as illiterate. It's stated as I posted it on their own site at the URL posted above.

I'd recommend sending an email to them, and if you get a bad response, call them and ask to speak with a supervisor. Provide them the URL when you email them, and if you feel irked enough at them, copy and paste the text of the link contents, so they can read the whole thing.

I can't imagine that any rep reading what I wrote in my email to them, coupled with the information at the URL above would deny you the $1.

I'd do it today before the price goes back up, and I'd also screen-cap the price at $14.99, just to be safe.

Haha, well, I just got the email confirming my refund that the rep I spoke with said I'd get. For some reason, it contains this sentence:

I realize a refund can't fully make up for the late arrival of this order. Please accept it as a goodwill gesture and in apology for any inconvenience.
Not sure where he gathered that from, but maybe they just had to pick a reason to give the refund (although I can't imagine why "Pre-Order Price Guarantee" is not a reason). Whatever. Got my dolla! :)

Nope, I got this email that reject my request.

We consistently offer competitive prices on everything we carry because we know low prices are very important to our customers. You can visit our pricing policies in our Help pages to read more:

Guys, I'm going to give up on this. My time now is worth more than $1. I'll may want to check our Target PM with Walmart + web coupon thingy, maybe that's worth it. I 'm going to let Amazon ship that to me and perhaps reject it and ask for refund later.

Here's what my email response was for the dollar refund request.

Hello from Amazon.com.

Thanks for contacting us about the recent price change on Harry Potter and the Half-Blood Prince. I recognize you have a choice of retailers and appreciate that you prefer to order from us.

Under the circumstances, I'll make a one-time exception for you and issue a refund for the price difference in the amount of $1. You should see the refund in the next 2-3 business days.

Please understand that I'm issuing this refund because of the exceptional circumstances.

Thanks for shopping at Amazon.com. We look forward to your next visit.

Well I e-mailed them about the $1 also and I also mentioned the $5 coupon at target and they gave me that as well. So I got this shipped to my door (didn't get it yet) for $10. Can't beat that. Well actually it was 9.50 cuz I had a gold box discount also.

Gosh, you're so lucky. I may have got a pretty bad rep who took my call and also my email request.

Do you have to include a snapshot of your coupon in your email to them so that they can give it to you as well?

FYI everyone should check out the Target $5 off coupon thread on getting HBP for $10.

Believe it or not.. finally, they got me $1 back.

At the email survey, I click No and typed all my issues with it and including the same link the strike has posted before. This time, they gave in.
I even reported that I had a target web coupon for $5 off.

They decided to credit $1 back to me only.

Well, It is too late!!

I've found Walmart printed ad. I'm going to Target to get HP6 for $10.
