I only read part of the first book and it is anything but good. It's as if they took the Chronicles of Narnia and stripped it of class, style, tone, imagery and economy.

Yes, I know, the names of the characters are quite charming. I know that I simply can't wait to hear about Hogwarts again...

That's about exactly how I felt when I was reading it as well.

(partially-related note: Here's hoping the new movie kicks ass for Chronicles, the effects from WETA look amazing in the trailer.)
