I called them on it last night and they "didn't have their June spreadsheet for rebates done yet". :whistle2:s Suggested I check back in a week or so for more info.
Whats the number? If you dont mind- I could'nt find one?
Same # as the EBGames.com number, 877 432 9675 .

It's my understanding that the voucher was only valid when Paper Mario cost more than $20, right? Or am I just misinformed?

Yeah. According to EB, we ain't getting them, but some people are hoping against hope that they go through anyway.

It's a point of conjecture, since none of us have seen the email that people mentioned going around EB to deny the rebate when purchased at $20. We're just guessing on that point until we're each given our "Your rebate has been declined" or "Your rebate has been accepted" emails/phone calls.

This info wasn't included in the flyer, on the mail-in offer, or in any way presented at the store. Also, the clerk didn't tell me about it when I purchased the game. It will be interesting to see what they do.

Its their own fault they marked the game down to $20 after printing up rebate forms. They better honor the rebates or many people will be calling and complaining.

I sent my rebates in on the second or third day after it was found out that the game was $19.99. I hope that I get the rebate, but I think it's still a little early to tell. I'm waiting another week or two before I start callin'.
I do believe this is a repost...Scorch should be here any second.
In the immortal words of WhipSmartBanky, "there's no need to be a little Scorch about it." :D

this is total BS.. I sent in my Red ninja rebate.. 3 weeks after paper mario.. and they e-mail me within a week sayin they got my rebate for red ninja.. but i havn't heard about the paper mario for quite some time... I'll giving them a call next week if I don't heard something...

Man, I still haven't got rebates for:

- Two PSP games
- Close Combat
- Paper Mario

but I did receive on online one for Constantine.

EBgames - one for four.

Lose thousands and thousands of dollars or listen to people bitch... Hmmm, which will they choose?

I don't know if it would come to that huge of an amount, but they also risk engendering a lot of badwill.

I got the Splinter cell one right away- w/in 2 weeks..................anyone remember the Harry Potter one- it was -$20 + $20 = free and I received that one!

We all should wait another week, then all call asking about it on the SAME DAY..............!!!!

I hope they don't pull the same crap with all of your rebates that they did with my Syphon Filter one. It took an extra long time to get it, and then it was only for $10 instead of $20. They said that they had INTENDED the rebate to only be used when the game cost $20, even though the rebate said nothing about this in its terms, and they would only give a rebate for the cost of the game. Hopefully they don't try to tell you that they meant for the Paper Mario rebate to be used when the game cost $50 and then reduce your rebate.

I mailed mine around May 25th, I'm gonna call them on it tomorrow. The ad and the fine print of the rebate make no mention of a price that had to have been paid in store, only that a photocopy of the UPC and a copy of the receipt had to be enclosed with a completed form.

Ok, here's my story...

I was walking into my local EB when the clerk told me to check out Paper Mario. I told him I didn't like RPG's and he told me it was risk free; the game was $19.99 with a twenty dollar rebate. I bought it; that was the first day of the sale.

Now, I had called EB because I hadn't received a few other vouchers from April and earlier. They mentioned they would not be honoring Paper Mario. I told them the situation and they said they would see what they could do.

I spoke with Leslie at x4005, at the EB Corp. Number, 1-800-800-5166, 6/29/05 at 4:45 PST.

I called back today about my PM rebate and got all bad news. They tell me now that no one will be receiving the $20 rebate and that the coupon was basically a mistake. Everyone needs to call and complain about this, maybe something can be worked out.

That's bullshit. Was EB pulling this shit before GS bought them? If not I entirely blame GS.

This reminds me that I don't think I've gotten the $10 voucher from Splinter Cell yet and it's been quite a while since I sent it in. Guess I'll have to get off my lazy ass and contact them about it.

I'm pretty surprised they are pulling this dick move with the Paper Mario vouchers. They've been really good about getting the ones I've sent in to me very quickly (except for this recent SC one...) Definitely makes me very leary to do any of these with them in the future.

And that Paper Mario deal was on FW IIRC. They'll have a meltdown on there once this news hits their boards.

Sorry to bust anyone's bubble, but home office sent a memo out shortly after the game dropped to $19.99 saying they WON'T honor the MIR anymore.

Yeah, wubb, get off your lazy ass and call them about it. :D

I agree, this is a dick move, and I'm calling them right now. I'll post what they tell me.

A FW meltdown? Whoopee.

EDIT: They don't know where it is. :whistle2:s Though I'm going to fax them the single page with the rebate form and receipt (702 614 1599, for those that would like the #) and have them research it.

True, the FW meltdown is not a rare occurence, but it should make for some excitement there. Plus I'm sure quite a few FWers will make some insistent phone calls to EB. Maybe they'll crack under the pressure.

News hasn't really hit on there yet though. Somebody posted the word from CAG on the end of their deal thread. Might turn out that the deal didn't interest enough FWers for it to really make a ripple there. *shrug*

Anyway, I'm truly shocked EB didn't decide to suck it up and send out the $20 rebate codes since the customers merely honored the terms of their own deal. EB has been great to CAG as a whole, but this move (if it truly goes down this way) really hurts them IMO. If they try to pull some explanation that the form has some language that gives them an out. (Typographical errors are not the resp. of EB for example.) I'd have to call BS as they've done some FAR or better deals using the same form and it's pretty poor to change the rules of the game on their customers like that.

Oh, and I went to e-mail EB about my SC:CT code and discovered it sitting in my inbox. Has a sent date of 6/23 which is kind of strange as I'm nearly 100% sure I checked for it before making my first post in this thread. I mailed the form in late April so that's nearly 2 months turn around time, but hey at least I got it.

Excited FW folks are nothing new, though their reactions are truly a study in chaos theory. :D Their force alone might get EB to crack or tell us all to get fucked.

The text on the rebate doesn't mention about price for purchase, though we've all discussed that down to the nth degree. The CS-friendly approach to is honor it, and be more picky about the rebate forms in the future. There's no wiggle room on it for them saying that there's an out for them, though, yes, they have done better with the very same form.

I'm faxing my stuff to them this evening and hopefully, that should generate some activity on mine. And others, if I'm lucky.

If you can't get something to work out with yours shrike then i doubt the rest of us are going to make any leway. All this deal does is make me very very leery of doing another deal with EB. They should just put up on this rebate as there was nothing in the wording saying we were doing anything wrong or against the rules. In the future they can change the rebate and make it nearly impossible to get anything out of it, but for now just put up on this one and get over it.

It's funny how EB managed to ship out all those online orders where people got 56% off on their used stuff (through the glitch), yet can't even give you guys back a $20 dollar rebate.

Good show, EB.

I know I've had problems with them in the past, and I've probably done more than a dozen rebates in the past year, maybe more. At least a couple of them have required me to fax in copies of the paperwork, while others have required periodic checking up with them to determine the status of it.

They always turn into some goofy-ass situation, one way or the other. I don't understand why they really make this more difficult than they need to. They're not giving us money, they're giving us gift vouchers. Fake money that's only usable on EB.com or EB B&M. If it was real money, then I can see them being jackasses about it, like so many other companies I know we've all dealt with in the past.

Some might say we're exploiting a loophole, though there isn't one IMHO. If they drop the price of the game to $20 and they have an outstanding promotion for $20 back as a GV on said game, wouldn't the marketing & sales dept. (or whatever it is for them) know about that before they drop the game to $20, with an open-ended rebate form that doesn't require it to be $49.99 for the rebate to kick in? It's all in the planning and proofreading, people.

Amen, brother. Nice to be inconsistantly inconsistant.

I sort of agree.
Personally, I would rather see the rebates honored than the website glitch. I don't expect a website glitch honored, I do expect the rebates honored. Just my opinion.

This is the right thread to talk about the Paper Mario $20 GV, not the one in the Video Game Deals thread.

Please use this thread for that, as I've now bumped it back up.

Because of their dirty, profit hungry, screw your business attitude about this rebate, (the rebate which said nothing, i repeat nothing, about a specific purchase price.) I will forever be reluctant to partake in any rebate offers from eb here on out (They are obviously unreliable.) If I must buy something from eb, you better believe it will be from the far superior ebgames.com (no more b&m crap like this). I view this deal as a total loss of $20, all because eb wouldn't honor something that they had written in black and white. What happened to being a good corporate citizen?

This is not the argument to use with EB. They're just as happy with you using the website. Your store manager *might* care, but he can't give you a rebate, only the corporate people can.

However, I agree with your general sentiment.
Still no definitive answer, eh? I won't have time to bug them until next week, but I will then.
Oh, i've gotten a definitive 'no' about 4 times so far with back and forth emails.

Demand that your original receipt get returned back to you because you want to return it to a store. See what they do.

Good idea. I just sent mine off 5 minutes ago (despite buying it on the first eligible date)....just in case.
