Look at this from Gamespot:

COming out for PSP:

Valkyrie Profile Lenneth
Suikoden 1 and 2
Persona
Breath of Fire III
King's Field (not sure if it is a port of the PS1 game)

4 hard to find PS1 games (B of F 3 a ton easier to find) coming to the PSP? Have companies decided this is a much more profitable way for them of getting older games into game players hands? Seems to me that might be the case. Chalk up a win for collector's?
I didnt realize these had been confirmed for U.S. release?

anything that kills GQD is fine by me.
Same here, I'm pretty sure that there hasn't been any official announcement concerning the US release for those games.
Unless someone can prove me wrong (and please do).

"Atlus' Persona is coming to the PSP, after having first appeared on the PlayStation in 1997. " Date TBA

"Capcom is porting this classic PlayStation RPG to the PSP. " Date TBA

"Konami is working on a remake of the classic PlayStation RPGs Suikoden and Suikoden II. " Date TBA.

Valk. Profile Lenneth i thought was confirmed but not 100% pos.

Quotes from Gamespot.

No official release dates but from the sounds of it, it seems very promising, who knows though. In my opinion it makes a hell of a lot more sense to release them for PSP rather than re-release PS1 games.

Huh... I had no idea that Persona 1 was on the way to the PSP... that's pretty sweet and it reminds me that I still haven't opened Persona 2. And AFAIK, Valkyrie Profile is coming to the US.

As for these killing GQD... I doubt it... it's not like there's no more games they can reprint since these are only a select few rarities.

How many rarities are worthy of reprints though? Are they going to reprint Sega Saturn games? How many people have saturns to play them on. There aren't many PS2 games that are rare enough to reprint. Rez and Gitaroo? They are already done.

PS1 games are probably there main target as they can be used on current systems.

I can see Ikaruga getting reprinted in the future, but apart from that... eh, there's not a ton I'll admit. That siliconera article said something to the extent of "GQD wants to reprint Ikaruga" IIRC.
i was gonna ask that, but it almost seemed like something i should already know. :(
You should already know. It's Gamequestdirect.com, the store that's been reprinting some games that were rare a while back like Rez, Resident Evil 2 and 3, Persona 2, etc.

Seing as tho I do not own a psp, and never will. These announcements mean little to me. I'd rather have the GQD reprints, from a buy2get1 sale at GS of course. ;)
What the hell is a GQD?
Game Quest Direct - the bane of VG collector's evereyone, friend to everyone else.

the persona game is a new game, not a port. However the first persona is not that hard to find in the first place.
konami already said nothing about us release for suikoden
same with Valkyrie Profile Lenneth. although the did trademark the name.
breath of fire 3 is never rare enough for GQD to reprint, plus you can import the europe version.

Christ, don't let me wife see another King's Field is on the way. When I told her I was buying a PS2 for Katamari Damacy, she went out and bought King's Field IV without consulting me.

Considering Gamestop is starting the phase out their Playstation stuff, I doubt they'll be buying anymore ps1 reprints from GQD.

Seems like they got screwed as well on the Persona 2 / Rhapsody deal... every EB / GS I go to has about 4 copies each.

Why would video game collectors hate them?
Why would video game collectors hate them?
I'm a little puzzled about that as well. Is it because GQD's reprint lower the value of their collections? If so, the PSP re-releases hurt as well.

well i dont want to play those games on a portable, id much rather play them on my tv at home. so if releasing these games drive prices down on the original console versions, then ill be happy.

Valkyrie Profile has a May release date listed im OPM, can't find store listing it yet, BOF 3, Suikoden 1&2, even persona would be great, I own the originals, but they would be great to take on the road. I saw all of these on a recent trip to Hong Kong...glad I waited : )
Valkyrie Profile has a May release date listed im OPM,
I don't believe this for a second, not without GS / EB having it in their computers to preorder.

The damn company already has Halo 3, they should have this if it was really coming out in a month.

I read a few articles about valkyrie profile in two different gaming magazines a few months ago. one of them was gameinformer and iirc, the other was official playstation magazine. i believe vp is coming to the psp on or before this winter.

edit: n/m, i found the article for gameinformer: http://www.gameinformer.com/NR/exeres/F6F3D3BD-01BF-401A-9754-81BCBB86FC29.htm
Square Enix and tri-Ace have announced two new Valkyrie Profile titles are due in Japan in 2006. Valkyrie Profile: Silmeria, an apparent prequel to the original game, will appear on the PlayStation 2 some time next year. Valkyrie Profile: Lenneth will be released in March on the PSP. The game is actually a remake of the original Valkyrie Profile. The official Japanese website is set to launch on December 12. No U.S. release has been announced.
:(
I don't see shit on GQD that I can't get anywhere else
Thats the point! Its sort of their fault

Also, a PSP release or a port to another system other than that of the original does not appear to adversely affect the value of the original product on the original platform. The Mega Man collections and Final Fantasy collections seem to indicate this.
I'm a little puzzled about that as well. Is it because GQD's reprint lower the value of their collections? If so, the PSP re-releases hurt as well.
A rerelease for a different system (psp) Doesnt really lower the value of the original too much. But a reprint for the same system does.

Old titles have long been revived on new platforms. Look at the parade of SNES hits on the GBA.

What will really wipe out the GQD and collectors is online distribution. Publishers will be freed of the guessing game of deciding how big to make their initial orders. No game will ever go out of print. It will just be farther down the main menu, like a book on the Amazon popularity list.

OTOH, CAGs will lose out as prices overall go down for a while but discounting largely disappears. The pleasure of finding the one store having a blowout sales will be a memory. Instead, if a publisher reduces an older game from $30 to $20, it will be that way for all shoppers regardless of the effort they make to find deals. You'll be able to get older games for chep but it just won't be the same as the classic CAG Era.

Breath of Fire I & II were already revived on GBA. BOFIII was the first CD-based game in the series. They probably decided after much thought it would port better as a PSP UMD than as a DS cartridge.

The original Kintg's Field was pretty primitive. It could be done justice on the DS but with a lot less heavy lifting and expense on the PSP. If it's a remake they'll hopefully redo it from scratch rather tan have it look like the PS1 version. If so, I'd be tempted to get it eventually. I'm one of the few who like that series.

I dont think online distribution is guaranteed to wipe out the collectors market. A digital replication cannot be equally substituted for the original cartidge in many eyes.

Who knows, it could theoretically have the opposite effect, with people downloading games they used to own, and deciding they want to own them once again(for real).

100% agree with the last post. Look at itunes. Yes you can download the cd and listen to it. But it just isn't quite the same as having the real cd and booklet.

I never have, and hopefully never will, pay for a download of something. If Im buying a product with real money, then i want a real product, on a disc, in a box, with a booklet, etc.

Has it been posted that GS will stop taking in PS1 trades in June?

Well GS/EB has the PSP ver. on the website now and there are screenshots on Gamespot. I also notice that a few GS/EB stores in my area are listing the PS1 ver. instock now.

I'd rather play long RPGs on my portables then sitting my ass in front of the TV in near isolation for 40+ hours.
VP: L is coming out. We are taking reserves at Gamestop, release date being 6/7/06
6/7? You sure it's not 7/18 like the site suggests? The sooner the better...
6/7? You sure it's not 7/18 like the site suggests? The sooner the better...
GS told me yesterday it's 7/16.

VP:L is slated to apear at E3 in May, so I would assume it's coming out over here. Other wise the other three are a big maybe (especially BOF3, I believe that and MM:L 1 & 2 are pretty much not coming here).

I love GQD, I personally would mind them destroying the value of every rare game ever released. It would please me to no end if Suikoden II and VP dropped to $5 in value.

That's my mistake sorry about that, I got the release date wrong.
