I just bought a new E6750 CPU and I have a ASUS P5ND2-SLI Mobo and a XFX 7900GT 256MB video card that I want to upgrade.

Important to note I think: I have 2 monitors on my desktop. One is an HDTV and is the other is a LCD monitor. When I game (primary reason for card(s) ) I obviously only use one monitor.

Here is my dilemma:

1) Do I go with another 7900GT and use SLI?
or
2) Upgrade to an eVGA 8800GT 256 or 512MB and plan to use the stepup program to go big.

Please advise!

I'm not too familiar with SLI but I have an 8800gt 512 and it's pretty amazing for it's price. I actually got Crysis to run at a smooth 60fps almost constantly with a few low settings, most medium, and some high at 1680x1050. I can take a screen shot if you would like. It also runs games like GOW at a constant 60fps at 1680x1050. I have an e6850 btw.

Those are crazy results! I have a feeling a single higher end card will be more worth it in the long run but I can't tell for sure...Im doing research but its hard to figure it out for sure.

I would step up to the 8800GTS 512. Its almost as powerful as the 8800GTXs and its only $100 more than the 7900.

Hey, I'm usually a lurker, but I saw your post and I had to help.

I was in the same situation as you are right now, and trust me, it is totally worth it to just get the 8800gt 512mb. SLI doesn't always work right with games, you don't always get 100% use out of both cards, whereas a single 8800gt will constantly deliver amazing power. Do yourself a favor, get the 8800gt.

Get one awesome single card. SLI isn't really worth it IMO unless you get the top cards (which are outdated within months anyway).
