I don't know if this is Vs. Forum worthy, or heck, this thread could have already been made, but I was curious about your guys' opinions. I have never really thought that there was any politician that stood out and really meant to turn the world into a better place without adhering to stand schtick that makes us loathe or at the very best dislike politicians. But then I was reading about the Jonestown Massacre and Leo Ryan's death came up. I read up on him and it really seemed like he was a legitimate guy-- Christ, he died in the line of duty. What politican does that, other than choking on a pretzel?

What about you guys? Anyone past or present strike you as an exceptional person? President Obama is of course excluded because that's just a stupid answer, and please, only three answers of "Ron Paul" allowed in this thread.

the first and last.

Not really. Obama and Al Gore would come the closest among major politicians since I could vote (2000--missed the 1996 election by a week as I turned 18 on the 14th). But I disagree with them on many issues and have many different beliefs.

Bush II. He really stood out. By returning us to a world without any superpowers, the world might become a better place. However, everybody loathes him.

I think Bush II is a real life version of Sula at times.

Harry Kim. Since the islands are so small, they have a overall island "mayor". He was my mayor while I lived on Hawaii. He was amazing. Intellectual and humble. I ran into him a couple of times around town and he gave you a sense that he was more like an elder than a politician. The Wikipedia entry goes on and on about his humbleness, but you have to meet the guy. Everyone, even people that vehemently disagreed with his politics, liked the guy.
The 2000 campaign was noted [for] refusing to accept any donation over $10, and printing bumper stickers reading "Applicant for Mayor".
Gotta love that.

Harry Kim wasn't a politician. He was just a guy whose job happened to be politics. The world needs more like him.

You mean like Santa or the Tooth Fairy? I believe in all politicians because I've seen them with my own two eyes!

You've never seen Dick Cheney.

You're right, no one has even see Dick Cheney. He's kind of like the hand up the puppet's ass you never see. Thanks for the heads up on Harry Kim-- I wanna see more guys like that too. His Wiki was an interesting read, but extremely short.

BRILLIANT!!! I didn't even make that connection till you did.

I think we traded Star Trek references once before. You're a formidable opponent.

Scudder Parker, insofar as his capacity as a local politician (lol Vermont) but I couldn't see him ever going beyond Governor.

On the flipside I loathe several VT political figures, Bob Kiss chief among them. Sanctuary city my ass.

believe in != believe -- although he isn't always honest, i believe in obama. nothing stupid about that answer. unlike many obama supporters, i have not yet allowed the right-wing rhetoric to taint my opinion of him.

If there were nothing stupid about that answer, why did you have to point that out?

 :applause: Keep the faith, brother! Don't let those heathens get to you!
