I bought Little Big Planet 2 SE from Target awhile back and tried to return it with a receipt but was told the game doesn't match the receipt.

Thought I might have the wrong receipt (just says "PS3 game") so I asked the cashier to tell me what game is on the receipt. Turns out its the same game I'm trying to return (LBP2 SE) but the receipt doesnt match what I have for whatever reason.

My game isnt from a bundle and I compared my UPC to the store's UPC and they are exactly the same so I dont know what's going on.

Cashier offered me a no receipt return, but would only give me like $12 when I paid $20 so I dont want to do that.

Any ideas??

It's because you bought it on clearance - they show up with a generic SKU. If you return it without a receipt, it returns it at the last selling price (likely $12.48).

Why not just keep it or sell it here on the forums?

Not what I wanted to hear, but thanks, it makes sense. Anybody interested in a brand new copy of LittleBigPlanet 2 SE??

$12.48 shipped?

Anytime that it just says "PS2 Game" or whatnot on the receipt you will have some problems returning. It's just that at the point they are kicked to a generic SKU. Any game that matches one in that database is a "PS2 Game." A store like Gamestop, where you may be a regular customer the employees know, would be able to say ok and take it back, but Target sees a lot more people each day.

I have run into the same thing at Walmart for a Christmas return a couple years ago, but it was easier to talk them into taking it back.
