Having trouble typing using Word under Vista

CAGiversary!
I am now using Microsoft Word with my newer computer running on Windows Vista. When I type, my typing curser is randomly placed elsewhere in my text. I'll be typing a message, and suddendly the text I'm typing is appearing in the middle of something I've already typed, and it really slows down my typing speed because I have to re-place my curser within my text to correct what the glitch has caused. I don't know if the curser is jumping around because I'm somehow hitting the control button or maybe making some kind of weird typo, but I would like to know why.

Am I the only one, or is anyone else's typing jumping into weird places within typed text? I've only seen this with Vista.

If you are using a laptop, is your hand/wrist hitting the touchpad when you are typing causing the cursor to move?

I get the exact same thing on all sorts of systems with any text editing if I'm not careful. You can try reducing the touchpad sensitivity or using a mouse with the touchpad disabled if that is convenient.

What is really annoying is when I get the same problem on a desktop system, where it is harder to explain where the phantom mouse clicks are coming from. I try to make sure the text cursor is position below where I'm currently typing, if I'm at the end of the entry. That way, a phantom mouse click doesn't move the cursor because there is nothing there.
