To quote Trent himself, "This is the beginning of the End."

Thanks for the heads-up, but I already got three films out of this earlier today (all copies of Norbit, duh!). I'm going to now be checking Amazon daily for HD DVD deals. While I don't want it to play out this way, I could see this whole thing being completely over by Memorial Day. From what Mr. Objective, Bill Hunt, is saying on his totally unbiased site, the Best Buy clearance purge of HD DVD may be beginning before you know it.

wish I had the money in my account, I have the cash just in my account

I'd pick up

Oldschool
Anchorman
Friday Night Lights
Well hd-dvd is about dead so this doesn't come out as much of a suprise .
They're having a similarly advertised sale for Blu-ray...

maybe this is Toshiba's response to the WB announcement. The only way HD DVD is going to garner support is if it sells and gains mommentum. Slashing prices of the hardware to mass market level ($100-$150) and lowering disc cost from $30 to $15-$20 would bring Toshiba back in the game!!! Plus they really need to push PC/Laptop HD DVD to the market a little more!

Toshiba just dropped the A3/A30/A35 to $150/200/300. I think thats their response.

Wow they sure did. Time to get a refund from Amazon as I just purchased the A30 a couple weeks ago for $247.

Probably even pick up a few more HD-DVD's as well. I have no problem helping to support the underdog of the formats.

Good prices. And while many may be saying HD DVD is dead, who knows. In the mean time, I'm going to enjoy the "clearance" sales, and see how this all pans out.

Oh, and thanks to all those selling theirs cheap! :)

Damn.. I did some research into this, and Spartacus on HD-DVD is from the old Universal single disc DVD release (not the Criterion). I was just about to pull the trigger on it for being $14.99, but it looks like it was a shitty transfer :(

Batman Begins is marked down to $20-ish.. I'm definitely picking that up. Too bad they couldn't mark down Planet Earth as well, eh?
Does anyone know if the Cream Reunion DVD is any good?
It's very good if you are a Cream fan.

I wouldn't call it shitty but it does have a good amount of issues. Never seen the Criterion though so I have no clue how it compares.
Are there plans for criterion to go hi-def in the future?
Last time I read on their blog, no.

Even though they master everything in HD, they don't want to jump in because 1) they don't want to leave anybody out by picking a side 2) sales are too low to support them releasing on both formats and 3) "they are waiting for a solution to the format question"

Got the price difference of the A30 refunded by Amazon.

So I picked up The Warriors and Smokey and the Bandit. Nothing else I really want from what's left.

everyone is saying this is a hd dvd is dead sale but this is just amazon doing a 50% high def sale for both hd dvd and blu-ray
I wouldn't call it shitty but it does have a good amount of issues. Never seen the Criterion though so I have no clue how it compares.
I've own the Criterion and have compared it to the Universal HD. While the Universal HD at times is a bit clearer looking overall the Criterion DVD release is actually better in terms of color and overall film likeness.

As far as this sale is concerned I ordered Yes: Live at Montreux 2003 but that's normally $16.95 anyways. I highly recommend this one for any and all Yes fans who own an HD-DVD player or might pick up one soon. Amazing concert. Might grab the Queen HD-DVD as well since that just came out plus High Def Digest gave it a very strong recommendation.

Now.... only if that Children Of Men would drop in price on HD-DVD then I'll be very happy. :D

I am definitely not the most patient person. But I waited for a long time for Children of Men to go on sale. I was able to snag it during amazons BOGO sale a couple weeks ago. I'm sure it will show up again soon.

These are some great prices, but I'm going to be waiting until spring when, as others have said, the real clearence will hopefully begin. I can see it now - $5 and $10 HD dvds...i can't wait! Plus I'd love to get a a35 for around $200 or so.
