The time has come to bid our preferred format farewell. An unfortunate but obvious conclusion to the HD DVD vs. Blu-Ray battle is that one of them would have to get buried in the end. I was happy to see many dual-format owners say that they preferred HD DVD, and even now the format offers some features that Blu-Ray is still catching up with.

Although the manufacturing of new players has come to a close, Toshiba will continue to support and service current players for the next several years.

The original HD DVD thread can still be found here and does have some helpful information here and there and was quite useful during the format's life. However, as it approached the 4500 post mark, it's clear that this is as good a time as any to start fresh.
OK, I sent for my 5 free just 3 days after they announced the demise of the HD- DVD, and still no package.
I know they got my order because I called them nearly 2 months ago and they confirmed it was in their system.
I wonder if I should start to become concerned....
Ah that's nothing. My first set, sent on 1/3, came in exactly 3 months later. I don't expect much quicker for my second set which I sent out in early March.

my 5 free movies came in a little over 2 months after i sent the rebate in. mailed in on 2/26 and arrived on 5/7. when i called the day before to check the status on them, the rep said that it had been mailed on 5/1.

Hi All,

If you have not seen already, many HD DVD releases (imports if you're interested), have been reduced at Amazon.de (Silent Hill was under 7, recently), and many such as Rambo 2, 3, and more 9.99 at Amazon.fr.

There are also sales at hmv.com (4.99, 7.99,9.99), and DVD UK, at 2 for 10. Of course you need to convert to your own currency.

If you still love HD DVD, come join us at

My set up:
********
42 & 50" Panasonic Plasma and 103" Projector display/LCD projector
A2, 2 A35's, BD30K, and PS3
Onkyo 605
250+ Reds and Blus

Mailed my form 2/28, just got my package today. Only got 1 of my requested titles, but on the upside I only own 1 of the replacements. I got:
Babel (only one I requested, for my wife)
Chronicles of Riddick (own it already in the 3 pack collection)
Casino (don't own or hate)
Blood Diamond (don't own, saw and didn't hate)
Mission Impossible (don't own or hate)
All in all not overly thrilled, but not pissed off either. I knew I was sending it towards the end of the promotion, and really can't complain too much. Took a while to get them, but I am ok with what I got for a $50 investemnt (360 add on). Plus I have a seperate DVD drive to watch movies with and not tax my game system.

Ah, damn. That's about a 25-30 minute drive for me, which probably isn't worth it with gas prices the way they are.

I did pick up a few from that inetvideo sale to commemorate the format's full stop this week. Don't think I'll actually pick up Twister unless I can get it for like 10 bucks though.

wearhousedeals has an A3 for 79.99 and A30 for $99, not sure if the A3 has the two movies, but the A30 I ordered last week did come with Bourn Identity and 300.

Just watched the final disc of the Star Trek season 1 hd dvd. That was a well done set with very sharp picture. I just wish season 2 would have made it out before the demise of the format. They do have season 2 with the new remastered special effects coming out but on dvd only http://www.amazon.com/Star-Trek-Ori...=pd_bbs_2?ie=UTF8&s=dvd&qid=1211768636&sr=8-2
Maybe they will come out with the remastered sets on blu-ray eventually....
i think freedom 6 is still coming out too
Do anime advertisments for Cup Noodles count as a major release?

Not even worth buying now since they'll probably put a cheap boxset out now that Bandai Visual is dead.

It SAYS right in the first line of the OP - these aren't literally the last releases, but they're the last ones that are from any major studio.

Sorry if I offended the legion of Disco Pigs fans out there.

I don't know if this is the place to ask this but can anyone tell me a number I can call regarding HD DVD movie warranty? The HD DVD side of one of my discs (I now Pronounce you Chuck & Larry) isn't working and I was stupid and waited more than 30 days to watch it so I can't take it back to Futureshop @_@

Disco Pigs!

"This feature debut puts on display the enormous acting talents of CILLIAN MURPHY and ELAINE CASSIDY"

Wow!

Which one does better with upscaling dvd's? I'm looking to get another player.

yea cillian murphy won best actor and elaine cassady best actress at different award shows for the movie and the director won best director at two different ones

but its not the oscars and the movie isn't from america so who cares

Just called today on my 5 free deal, and they said it was mailed out on the 27th(May). She also said give it another 4-6 weeks from that date. That can't be right can it?

They're saying that to keep you from calling back.

You'll probably have them by middle of next week... in my experience it only took about a week after mailing.

Hoe many hd dvd do you have in your collection? I have so far 60 and a few months ago I only had 10 hds and that me having the system for over a year.
Which one does better with upscaling dvd's? I'm looking to get another player.
In terms of upscaling they are both pretty identical. The A30 however can upconvert to 1080p plus it has the 24hrz film mode on it. So if you have an 1080p set (or plan on getting one) then its easily worth the extra $20 for the A30.

I have about 20, and I picked up the 360 add-on in February. Still waiting on my five free movies, and the five I picked up from the iNetVideo.com clearance. I have more HD-DVDs than I do Blu-rays, and I have had the PS3 since January of '07.

For anybody that picked up a 360 drive and waiting on the 5 hd-dvd... they will come !!.. I actually completely forgot about it.. and just yesterday .. i got 5 in the mail. Granted most of the ones I asked for were out of stock... and they just will send you 5 different ones that they have in stock it seems.

I got chronicles of riddick.. alexander...smoking aces,, aeon flux and blood diamond.

I don't even remember what i originally asked for.. i think full metal jacket... troy where two that are oos.

I just came back from that Hollywood Video store off of 15 Mile. I need about a dozen HD DVD cases now. Are there any retail stores that sell them?

I got a 10 pack on eBay for about $10 shipped. They are slightly larger and a little redder than most cases, but they mostly blend in well with the rest of my collection.

Should've stated I'm in Michigan. No Fry's stores here. Circuit City had some thin dvd cases, but were just too tall for me to buy them.

So, I finally got around to getting a copy of WinDVD9 and decided to plug my 360 HD-DVD drive in to see how it would work with HD media.

It worked but the video was slightly choppy compared to the audio which was perfect. The scene, from Adventures Of Robin Hood, wasn't even an action scene.

What could be my problem? I bought a new PC a month or two ago so it should be eating these for breakfast.

Intel Core 2 Duo 3.00 GHz
3 GB of RAM
750 GB hard drive with 257 GB free
NVIDIA GeForce 8600 GT with 512MB of RAM
Vista 64-bit edition

- edit I seem to have fixed the video by turning off Hardware Acceleration.

The new problem is that the aspect ratio isn't right.

It looks like this

Are the replacement HD DVD cases at Amazon the same size as the original cases? They come in a 10 pack too. Curious before I order them.

Indeed I bought a player about 3 weeks before it went belly up and just today got my movies...only 1 of which I asked for but here's the free haul...

The Departed
Casino
The Italian Job
Harry Potter and the Order of the Phoenix
Sleepy Hollow

Anyone seen Sleepy Hollow? Any good?
I hope I get Sleepy Hollow as one of my subs .
PM me if you want to trade I might be willing ;-) I can always just rent it. I'll leave it wrapped a while

loving my HD-DVD player. I own an A2, and a HD-DVD Drive for the 360 (backup). I have 53 HD DVD's I add one almost weekly. I'll probably never get rid of them.
