While I think you mean it's surprising that they are in the $20 range for B&M (when Best Buy has monster cables in the $100's), I just wanted to say that the onese at B&M's are still waaaay too much money. HDMI is either all or nothing, as I understand it, so either you get a good, working cable, or you don't. Paying $5 or $20 or $400, it's the same, just perhaps a little 'beefier'. So, I would always just go with the cheapest price.
I know you agreed with monoprice, I just thought this would be helpful for those that didn't know.
And I'd say get 6ft whether you think you need it or not. I bought a temporary 3ft cable at walmart while I waited for a monoprice one and it was very, very short. I then went for a 15ft at monoprice (which is very, very long, it was just so cheap I went overboard. Regret it and wish I had just gotten a 6ft.)
If I had to run out and get a cable for a need that day, then yes, that's a bearable price, as well as from a place I know I won't have an issue with after the return period. Plus, it's a brand that I can deal with if there's an issue long-term. I could also recommend someone that doesn't do Internet shopping to go there to get one and not have a bad conscience over it.
Compared to the anal probing you get at a BB or CC on a cable, yes, it's a steal. Compared to monoprice.com, not so much. Which is why I ordered a few extras on my last order, so I'm covered.
