HDMI is the way to go.

I use VGA because my 360 is one of the earlier ones and lacks the hdmi port. The VGA for me allows me to get 1080p out of the console.

I have hdmi, vga and component microsoft cables. Out of the 3, HDMI looks the cleanest.
