HDTV questions.

Alright.

i just recently got a 32" Westinghouse model SK-32H240S.
i know its not the greatest set in the world... but. it was a christmas gift.
and after setting it up i am VERY pleased with the picture quality.

This may be helpful to some people.
i have an Xbox 360 with the HD DVD add on currently attached through the HD cables.

i just have a few questions.
being that its a 32" i would think that the best picture would be with 720p for my xbox and high def movies.

please correct me if im wrong.
and besides that.

im wondering it anyone else out there happens to have this model so i can try some of the settings out that they've had.

as of right now i havent calibrated it or anything.
and have been doing everything to my eye.

so id like to make any changes to get the best possible picture.
and also.
being that i have some cheap ass surround sound system.

whats the best audio settings to have with my xbox?

sorry for all of the questions guys.
but ive searched all over avs and have found absolutely nothing.

also.
if it helps to answer any questions im sitting about 5-7 feet away.
the tv is in a bedroom.

I'm not sure what you're asking... Your set tops out at 720, so 1080's not an option, not to mention if you are using component, it maxes out at 720 anyway (for 1080 you need vga or hdmi). I know I'm not answering anything, but I'm not sure what you are asking, and I'm not sure anyone else will either. As for the audio, I believe the 360 tops out at 5.1, so, 5.1. DTS is better than dolby digital (IMO), but I can't remember if the 360 supports DTS or not.

and thats what i was asking for in the audio.

but my set supports both 720p and 1080i.
[as most HDTVs do]

and im asking which setting would look better on my tv with the screen size and everything.

also.
im in the process of hopefully getting an hdmi xbox.
if that doesnt happen.

ill pick up the 360 vga cables.

and thanks for the reccomendation on the sony.
but i dont have the money.
and im completely satisfied with mine.

what in the world are you asking, its really unclear.

Run the game in 720p look at it... run it in 1080I look at it

which looks better to YOU. Its all about if you like it or not.

Why do you want an hdmi xbox? WHy do you want VGA cables?

Component is good enough for a 32, you will not notice a differnece in PQ.

I've always preferred 720p over 1080i for ANYTHING with motion. A progressive scan picture just looks better than an interlaced one IMO.

yes, sweet picture indeed.... but also leaves a gaping hole in your wallet that wouldn't be as big with a panasonic or samsung for the same quality TV, IMHO
 
I own a 32" Sharp LCD and I personally prefer 720p. Honestly though you can barely (if at all) tell a difference in resolution between 720 and 1080 on that size of a TV so you may as well go with with the progressive scan.
 
Since your TV's native resolution is 720p, then that is what you should set your xbox up as.

MIETHA: you are incorrect, you CAN do 1080 over component. That's how I'm running my 360.

AVS forums are great for getting together with other people who have your TV. I found this thread for you.

It doesn't necessarily have specific settings for you to compare but it's a good start. Obviously you could do more searching in their forum if you want more answers.

There are so many variables to take into account. To me, answering this question would depend on what kind of set up you have. If you're playing this in your bedroom or any other small room, then any cheap HTIB would work great. You don't really need the sparse 7.1 set up if you're in a small space. However, if this is in a wide living room or something then I would recommend buying a separate receiver and separate satellite speaker system.

In any case, the end result will be the same. Ideally you'd want to connect an optical cable from the 360 to your receiver for the best sound.

Actually I connected my 360 to a friend's samsung and sellected 1080p via component. That was fixed via an update.
 
You should use whatever the native resolution of your screen is. If it's 1080 select 1080 if it's 720 selecte 720. Always pick progressive over interlaced.

Your set is 720p select 720. 1080i is just convereted down to 720 on that tv.
